Yes, I think most people either call it a dresser of a chest-of-drawers.

I agree. I only hear it in relation to antique furniture, such as on Antiques Roadshow.

I too, think of a government department opposed to a piece of furniture. Although being the age I am, bureau was not unheard of growing up. 

Does that mean I am antique and should be on the Antique Roadshow, @Paladin 😮

I suspect @wildone that we are of similar ages. I would regard us as unique, not antique. :)
