Correct me if I'm wrong, in North America, we have Insurance Companies to cover you for unexpected loses, but in other countries, including Canada, you have Assurance Companies :unsure: I remember the Western Assurance Company which when I googled was a member with the British America Assurance Company.

@wildone Your question,  @drpaladin and answer, left me more confused than ever. 

I found 3 sites that finally explained what the actual differences are. More important, why you would choose one over the other. Fortunately I am as they say, not exactly well off, so the choice is not a consideration I need worry about.
