All About Lily Chou Chou, first of my weekly movie reviews.Has anyone seen a Japanese movie called All About Lily Chou Chou? A friend of mine saw it and recommended it to me, so I went out and rented it. So before I go any further I have to say that this movie is not for everyone. It has alot of situations including rape, torture, suicide and murder. The movie is set in Japan and it revolves on a set of highschool students who listen to the music of lily chou chou, a fictional music star created by the writer and director of the movie. The movie opens with a group of kids who are clearly troublemakers. From that group you meet Yuichi. The whole story is told through his point of view as he is affected and humiliated by his fellow students and so called friends over a two year span.The visual look of the film is an artistic and ethereal experience. There is a quality to the film that can only be described as beautiful. Sometimes you feel like a voyeur looking in on the lives of these kids. At other times you feel like your a part of their lives. I can't fully describe the experience.Lily Chou Chou's ether music helps these kids deal through the horrible every day situations these kids are faced with. They deal by connecting in the lily chou chou chatrooms. The story is a bit hard to follow as it's subtitled and sometimes you can't tell who the characters are but once you get used to the style of the film you understand much more. I suggest watching the movie twice if you ever see this movie. the movie needs your full attention.
