Here ya go Dom: Pumpkin Carving 101

I'm one of those guys that's a soft touch on Halloween. I make little bundles with a mixture of minis- snickers, baby ruth and peanut M&Ms.

Now- I'm a little concerned about what you saw that put you in such a funk. Big kids bullying little kids? Bum fights? Cat juggling? The not knowing is making me want to beat a redneck like a ugly rug. Well... honestly, I'm always in the mood for a redneck thrashing.

Oooh, you should make toasted pumpkin seeds! They're full of zinc which is good for your joints, bones, and prostate apparently :D as well as boosting your sex drive.

Ben xxx

P.s. I'm not suggesting that your sex drive needs boosting btw... :D

Now, if anyone figures out how to carve a pumpkin without making a big mess, please share

What you do is you get an old sheet and cover a wide place with it and you embrace the mess!!!

So unfair :( Halloween is no big thing here in Australia. Well, i would sometimes go out as a kid but its no huge thing like you guys have, and it sucks. You never see anyh pumpkin jack-o-lanterns or houses done up here, and the only places that really go all out are Goth Nightclubs.

And hey Dom, don't worry about whatever it is you saw thats making you depressed, best depresion cure? Have Vanilla Ice Cream drenched in Caramel, followed by taking your Medication <Efexor or Zoloft os somesuch> ok so not original, but at least it works!

Have a good weekend

Hey Dom, I'm so sorry to hear that something has you down. I don't know if this will cheer you up or not, but just yesterday I was thinking about how TLW and TOU were probably the two most meaningful and inspirational stories I've read in years if not ever. Funny it hadn't actually occured to me to mention how much I'd enjoyed and been moved by them until now. I'd gotten a cynical about the idea of finding true love, but reading about Jude and Quinn and Especially Owen and Aiden, I thought maybe it really was out there. Anyway hope you feel better. As for halloween unfortunately I don't think I'll be getting into the spirit of it much. I live alone and I think I'd find it a little sad to decorate if no one's going to see and enjoy it but me (and perhaps a friend or two who drops in), NOT that I think that's how other people should feel, I think it's really great for other people to decorate and get in the spirit of it even if they do live alone, it's just the kinda thing that make me focus on loneliness so I don't do it. Also Halloween is in many ways a kid's holiday, which also is likely to get me down in several ways if I'm not careful. Like 1) I really really want kids and don't see that happening soon if ever. 2) No kids are even very likely to knock on my door for trick or treating (I live in a big apartment complex in a college town) and 3) I know it's silly and I'm really not that old, but it'll likely remind me of when I used to trick or treat, and the fact that I"m too old now (Plus I'll already be feeling like an old man since I didn't decorate or anything lol), Oh goodness I meant to cheer you up, but instead I ended up whining. Don't get me wrong I'm really not down on Halloween and in fact I've been in a remarkably good mood the last couple of weeks. Anyway take care

Hey Dom, a funny anecdote:

I was at my academic team competiton thing, and one of the questioons had the answer of "Cox". a player on the other team buzzed in and said "Cox", and I wasn't really paying attention until I heard someone say "Cocks". My first thought was of Jude.

The s/o loves Halloween...it ranks right up there w/Xmas and Easter as on of the Big 3. Our house has been decorated for a couple of weeks now.

Our party is next weekend so as not to conflict w/the kids' things. We're expecting 40 or so. I will not be in costume so as to make those who chose not to come in costume comfortable (that's my excuse, in any event!) Dom, if you need cheering up, feel free to attend.

So, what is it you saw that bothered you? Gonna tell us? We're your friends, you know. If you can't tell us, then who?

:2hands: Have a sandwich, watch a good film (recommendation: Tigerland (lots and lots of Colin Farell) ) then get started on the pumpkin...

By the end you'll have one worthy of comment (ie: Isn't it striking how much that looks like Colin's arse?)

:P Meh good luck with it- personally I can't stand halloween... Not enough true goths guys about to make use of in dark satanic rituals with lots of wine and nakedness...

 Rawrness B)

*BIg hugs @ Dom*

LOL Slaveboy, I have a story about "cox" myself. In my area (and apparently much of the South) there's a very prevelant cable company called Cox Communication, anyway a couple of years ago a friend of mine was talking about how her boyfriend, who was from the north, "had never heard of cox", so we all start giggling, but she still doesn't realize what she's said and goes on to say "What? They don't have cox up north.".....I thought "huh, finally a reason to be happy about being a southern boy" (well that and the food and friendliness)

Hello AFriendlyFace,

I just wanted to echo what you wrote about Dom's stories. There's something in them that makes you feel, I don't know, is optimism the right word? Maybe it's like Quinn thinks at the end of the latest chapter - it's just ordinary. I mean, I know it's ordinary, but even in Amsterdam, it still sometimes feels extra-ordinary.

Probably it's just me...

Anyway, that's all really.

Dom, hope things improve over the weekend. I'd recommend Ben & Jerry's Phish Food Ice Cream myself, or the Oatmeal Cookie and honey, but that's just me! Take care, and thanks for TOU.
