Who was your favourite MINOR character from the first Do Over and why? The list excludes Davey and Brian, but everyone is fair game I guess.

Mine is actually one that recurs in DOR - President Reagan himself. Well, I never actually like the real Reagan, but Dan's version of him and Nancy in DO is so unique as opposed to the other couples in the story. They stood out for me and I enjoyed reading about the interactions between them and the other characters in DO. This time around though, in DOR, Nancy seems to be "seen but not heard". That, coupled with the "meanness" of the Reagan in the earlier chpaters of DOR has put me off them a bit in the sequel.

This was difficult, yet at the same time easy. Since you threw out Brian  , I'm left with Mr. (Dr.) Rush. He & Mrs. Rush had been through more difficulties and struggles in their lives than any other character (davey included) yet they are the most honest, loving, demanding, and real people in the story. Their ability to accept and love their son for who he is (even the pieces they don't really know about and aren't really sure about) is beyond measure. They accept Davey for exactly who he is and what is life circumstances are. In DO we Dr. Rush's ability to deal with Davey as a 15 year old and as a 30something year old simultaneously (as an aside we are saw a piece of Dr. Rush's ability to treat Davey as a 15 year old and a 60ish year old simultaneously). He judges right and wrong behavior based on the relationships involved, not some higher ethic of "good and bad".

The fact that he doesn't judge shows the depth of his heart, and his (and his wife's) choice to defect from the USSR and perform Top Seceret work for the US shows the strength of his character and ability to do what he knows the be right regardless of the personal risk. Trevor was the reward for him and Mrs. Rush being who they are and I think for them there could be no greater reward. I recall no thought, attitude, feeling, or decision that either Dr. or Mrs. Rush made that was anything but loving and caring.

The fact that he is a physicist doesn't hurt.

His Americanized last name is a DEFINITE plus, but that is just a bias I have carried for almost 80% of my life.

EDIT: I was trying to figure out how to edit this so that I could type "Rush" a few more times, but it just seemed ... um ... forced :D .
