VictoryPanda Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 So I just have a simple question. For those who write multiple stories, do you find it easier to write just one story or to spread out and put your ideas in different stories. At the moment, I'm only writing one story but I keep coming up with new ideas. Plus they're different genres so they can't all become on thing. I'm trying to choose between branching out or sticking to one at a time. I just never know when this is going to be over. Or maybe just start writing the others but not commit to them/post them yet... Hmm... I feel like i'm answering my own question. T-T
Former Member Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 Eh its a personal preference. I have lots of different ideas. So lots of different stories. It depends on what mood I'm in as to which story I'll work on. I can spread myself between two or three stories at the most. It's just a matter of what you can handle yourself. Don't spread yourself too thin, otherwise you may burn out and only write a third of what you normally do on three stories than on the one. Just make sure, at the very least. Whatever idea you have. You jot down a.s.a.p. somewhere you can easily access when you need to. Plus having another story there to work on if you get stuck on one is always good.
gardentuber Posted September 18, 2010 Posted September 18, 2010 I believe it's important to make a story sensible and "digestible" to the reader. Too many plot lines can muddy the water, too few make for a quick read (or a boring one). So, how 'bout organizing your story ideas, choosing which warrant being primary plots and which are better as subplots. And remember: the story you're currently writing won't be your final one. Save up those other stories. Make notes as suggested. (I have a document that is a collection of plot synopses waiting in the wings. Occasionally, I take a look at it and polish up a plot or add a new one or fill one out further.) It's nice to know you're not a one trick pony.
AranaDarkwolf Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Personally, I'm too much of a chaotic personality to work on just one project at a time. Right now, for example, I'm writing two completely different stories at the same time. One is a murder mystery/cop drama and the other is a sequel to the story I've already posted on GA, Castle Island. I think it's good to get all of your creativity out there, and if that means being chaotic and working on more than one story at a time, go for it. If getting all of your creativity out there means going balls out on one project at a time and moving on to the next, go for it. I find it more fun to work on two projects at once, though; I inevitably end up having elements from each one bleeding into the other. It makes for interesting plot lines.
