  1. LOL! Very appropriate. Perhaps "Liar's Poker" would work too. Financial meltdown of 1980's, isn't too different from the one we are having. I only read books once in a blue moon.... But since this thread is about books, I was rereading (part of) "Flowers for Algernon" most recently. Before that, I was reading "Mansfield Park." I don't like it..., and have trouble finishing it. Fanny, despite her upbringing, was self-righteous and spoiled. Edmund acted like her servant. She didn't have a pony suitable for a lady, big deal.... I've never had a pony!!! (sour grape)
  2. Very handsome Yang. Did you tell those girls you're off-limit? LOL! Johnathan, yes, you can try those glasses Xeran suggested, perhaps in jadeite color, if you can pull it off (can't make out the color of his hair. Brown or black?). Larger rim (called Wayfarer, 1950's hipster style), if your face is rounder. Rectangle shaped glasses are more suited for longer faces (general rule, there is no absolute right or wrong. You can look good if it fits you). Grape color might work on Pai-kun. Otherwise, your glasses are fine (staring at his hair...). You don't need to spend money to look good.
  3. Happy Birthday.
  4. Erm.... Some people might not able to achieve orgasm without trusting the partner? Just some thought. A little psychological and physical regulation could determine whether the act is fulfilling or not.... Otherwise, it's just friction.
  5. Just hope Jack was feeling alright. I was actually with his opinion in some way, but I don't know if I sounded like a yapping you know what.
  6. I have nothing against you, Jack. We're more similar than different. I thought you were my age, so I might have said something really terrible and uncalled for. If you are hurt, then I have hug coupons to hand out, only if you wanted them. You're entitled to your own opinion, but sometimes please exercise with caution. I did my share of blunder, so I reversed my decision. In real life, there is no save and load buttons.... I screwed it up, okay? I screwed it up. Kids nowadays are very lucky and so open about their sexuality, so take advantage of that. The other day I suddenly remembered when I was in High School, some guys organized some all-male cheerleader squad for a special event. If I could live my life again, I would join it. A guy dressed up as Frankfurter for Halloween, and he was on verge of crying because a girl was so mean to him because of his transgenders outfit. I didn't even have the gut to yell at her for it. If it were now, I would kiss him just to show her. I would go to the Prom, why should I give a (*beep*) what others might think. I would run after the guy I loved so much, who care if he beat me up because he was so closeted himself. Ironically, we were reading "Secret Sharer" that semester. Never leave a regret. It'll haunt you til your final review. Sorry if I made you feel bad. Peace. Now you made me feel like to ask if that older guy loves me or not. You're mean Jack.
  7. [Deleted because he thinks he's being a hypocrite on divine intervention] WL. Just follow your heart and your gut feeling. Just be "careful". We only have one life to live, so have fun. I am unqualified to give advice.
  8. ... and religion. Good friends don't talk about politics and religion. Good advice, Colin.
  9. That was the first thing I noticed when I read this thread. I thought, 22 years old and already finished his master degree? High achiever. I was a high achiever, but my homosexuality cost me several years of delay, and by the time I got out of school with my first degree, I was catching cold rather than a real job. I still don't have a master degree. I am probably the worst person to talk to when it comes to relationship, and especially with an age difference, so no comment. But there, compensation for you. Even if nothing worked out, you still have a nice career and an autonomous life. That's something that'll never go out of style. (please don't read between the lines of that last one , it only means good for you. Nothing else) Also conservative.
  10. YES. Excellent pick. For lighter side, I personally recommend The Latter Days and Sugar. Sugar's acting is better than The Latter Days, but The Latter Days's story is very strong. I like the lead actor in The Latter Days. What ruins it from being five stars are editing and directing. They should shoot it in 24 frames, so it doesn't look so home video-ish. Some actors/actress were miscasts. But I think people should watch the story, because it's overall, pretty lovely. For more "adult" drama (whatever that means), I concur everything Corvus said plus the following: The Line of Beauty - Based on Booker Prize winning novel of 2004 by Alan Hollinghurst, and adapted for BBC mini-series by Andrew Davies, and with a superb cast, I can't stress enough why this movie about 80's UK about class and gay climate at the time should be a gay drama's all-time classic. Very depressing. Fortunately it's broken into three episodes, so do it slowly. I've yet to read the book, but many Amazon reviewers complained it's borderline on pornographic, so there is some encouragement for erotica authors here. Yes, an erotica can win a very prestigious literary award, as long as the story is serious enough. A Room with a View - If you are a E.M. Foster and Merchant/Ivory fan, keep an eye on it. Yes, it's not a gay movie per se, but Rupert Grave's character is gay by suggestion. This is a feel good movie (compared with most films on my list...). The Consequence - An old German film from 1977, the DVD transfer was problematic, and subtitle is hard to read. It's worth the strain on your eyes, because of the story. I think you can stream it through Netflix, if you have that service. The Rope - Yes, a controversial Hitchcock experiment. It's not a gay film per se, and it puts gay people in bad light, but it's a pedagogic film about responsibility. Both leads were played by gay actors. Based on real life case of Leopold and Loeb, two gay intellectuals who took Nietzsche's superman theory wrongly and decided to kill an innocent man for the heck of it. They happened to be gay, so what do you suppose the general public would think? Boys in Band - Somebody said this, and I agree. Highly recommended. If one is in his/her self-hatred, drama queen stage, one can learn a lot from it. Hedwig and the Angry Inch - If you like really crazy gay drag queen, you'd love this. It's depressing and uplifting at the same time. Velvet Goldmine - Jonathan Rhys-Meyers was a drama queen before he became the Tudor king. If you like David Bowie and such visual rock stuff, this is the film. Breakfast on Pluto - I've always thought Cillian Murphy has an androgynous appeal, but he didn't look quite right as a drag queen. Despite the appearance, he exhibited his acting range in this. This and The Line of Beauty are the most suicidal inducing films you could ever watch. Billy Elliot - He is not a poof, but the film touched on gay issue very sensibly. There are probably some more I've watched over the year that deserve attention. Just add them to Corvus's list and you're ready to.... My Beautiful Launderette has a very good happy ending that's not too disgustingly corny to me, so that deserves a special mention. Oh, and Talented Mr. Ripley.... Matt Damon, bad light, but good film.
  11. No.... I HAD Mr. Right, before he turned straight. Too true. Anyways, how do you use that multi-quote thingy? Ashi
  12. Gay male unicorn. Man..., that's horny. I also like minotaur. But I guess that's similar to centaur, like Pegasus is similar to unicorn. I also like phoenix, because phoenix rises from Ashi (*ducks and covers*). Ashi (still in his ash stage)
  13. Really? Thanks. Rilbur offered to help me on my work, but it won't hurt to have two editors or more. I won't let my work to be edited unless it's completely finished. There is a Hollywood formula about thematic structure, but I lost my handout (yes, it has to do with scripts, so see if you can google it and find it out). Actually, I was looking for it this morning.... I'll let you know once I found it. Maybe I used the term wrongly, so I don't want to misguide you. Ashi
  14. Happy anniversary. I just joined a couple days ago, so it's quite convenient whenever you announced your anniversary, that would mean I am late on mine. Hope I'll stay to see my day comes. As for sage. I don't know why, I've thought about starting a fashion boutique, and "Sage & Lavender" would be the name of the label. So does that mean sage is commonly used to refer to a gay man? That would be weird. As for virgin. Add me to the roster (*does a secret handshake with fellow virgin boys*). Not inexperience with love but that's one of the reasons why I am still a virgin. I have problems.... Forty-year old virgin is not an impossibility, but I won't set that as a deadline.... Cat. (*goes over to give a hug Rush*) My cat died. OMG. Is it like three years already? (*checks*) Yes:(. Third posthumous anniversary on July 8. To this day, I still think about him. I wrote a lot, but I'll jump straight into the moral of the story. We need cats, especially when we are down, or even suicidal (either that or a boyfriend/girlfriend). Yes, I'm a feline evangelist. Yes, I vowed also not to get another cat, but I am softening now, because I know I need to move on. And yes, I should listen to my own advice, too, so you're not alone, Rush. I tend to think that's because we've grown to become too complex for us to deal with (but I could be wrong. I'm always right, except when I am talking about myself ). Anyways. Sorry to be a newbie who is already opinionated.... (*back to work on his stuff*) Happy anniversary again. Ashi
  15. Newbie.... I'm currently writing something that turns out to be longer and more developed than I expected. Found GA is currently holding a novella contest, so I hope I could make it. Need some help on grammar, so if someone would like to volunteer, that'll be great. I am okay with basic writing skill, character development and thematic structure, but I do need some constructive criticism on those subjects.
