  1. The African's have a lot of fun proverbs. My favorite is one that the women on the Swahili Coast sometimes embroider into their skirts, called kangas. "He may be your son, but he sleeps with me".
  2. Ravel's Bolero is one of my favorites, but I have a huge soft spot for George Gershwin. I love Ella Fitzgerald's album of just Gershwin songs, but in terms of just instrumental pieces, Rhapsody in Blue is hard to beat. I will listen to this song while studying and it always just reminds me of the city. Watching people running around Downtown Boston has the same feel as listening to this song. Rhapsody in Blue (The Fantasia Version) Part 2
  3. Mark, the only straight thing in your stories are the masts and the women, the men are about as straight as a boat tacking into the wind. Score for being able to make innuendo out of maritime terms.
  4. My bet's on Mono, but in true soap fashion a complication ensues and causes his kidneys to fail.
  5. While the contextualization of the earlier CAP novels was very important, I feel like the more we get to know and love the characters the less we need it to understand them. I would love to see what happens with Wade's political career or how Brad and Robbie deal with aging and empty nest syndrome. Even if we lose the fun and amusing historical side notes or fun cameos, its really the characters that keep us coming back obsessively every other day to see when the next chapter is posted.
  6. Count me in. I find that my obsessive need to read the stories ebbs and flows, having Belvidera present at the same time as Bloodlines is throwing me off kilter. Having to actually wait patiently for the next chapter doesn't go over so well.
  7. I agree with paya, when one escalates things and then when the going gets good you pull the emergency break those of us in college have a name for people like you...tease. No one likes a tease, Mark. Sure when the next chapter happens its always good, but still. We are left holding our breath looking like this .
  8. I don't have a top 5, but How the Grinch Stole Christmas and the Peanut's Christmas episode are my two favorites. I bought a Charlie Brown Christmas tree for my apartment this year and it never ceases to make me smile.
  9. So true, paya. I don't know how they still have energy for all of it with playing hockey and school. School alone leaves me exhausted most nights, I can't imagine adding in a sport. They must be chugging energy drinks like mad to do all that they do. Though I totally understand Wade's not wanting to have sex during finals. As a library hobo for seven days every December and April, I was impressed that he even made it back to the dorm. The fact that he wasn't jacked up on caffeine and looking like Gollum by the end is just not fair. Now if only I could get through my midterms in less than a thousand words instead of the next 18 agonizing days.
  10. How do you not freeze? I swear Black Friday is the time for me to stock up on winter clothes. Every year I forget how cold Boston is and buy more and more layers.
  11. I can't decide if it was a nice break from the drama llama or just one of those chapters that need to happen to move the story along. After such a great chapter, its understandable to be let down, but my irrational mind craves greatness. I want my cake and be able to eat it too.
  12. Surely seven different men are enough for him?
  13. I went and got some things, but was continually thwarted by the resurgence of plaid. I am not a lumbejack so for plaid shirts to be the sole type of long sleeved button down shirt was reason enough to be back home in bed by 10am after only 3 hours of shopping and an hour of driving around.
  14. I vote for this option. I think Cody needs a harem of men... a husband per day should be enough.
  15. I concur, send him to Utah or better yet have his plane crash on a desert island in the South Pacific where the only inhabitants are wild animals. I don't trust Brian around any other humans.
  16. The only thing that makes it worth it is the fact that I only buy things I was planning on getting anyway. Since its so cold and wintery in Boston, Black Friday is a wonderful time to get clothes. The insanity is cut down because the mall doesn't open til 6am. So while the rest of you are at the store at 4 am and waiting in line. I am still in bed til 4:30! Thank God for the small things in life. I just feel bad for the boyfriend who is coming along for the entertainment....the poor thing has no idea what he is getting into.
  17. Me neither, they just never seemed to fit as well as the other couples in the novels. It was one of those, "I just can't put my finger on it" type problems. Though its a nice surprise having them back. Running into old characters in these stories is like finding a song on iTunes you totally forgot about but that was a favorite for a while. Always a pleasant experience and cause for nostalgia.
  18. So I got one for the scenes where Matt hooks up with Carullo and dashes out in the morning. Save Tonight by Eagle Eye Cherry The song came out in 1997, and is personally on all of my 90s playlists.
  19. Again off topic, but saving a fellow member from committing a felony is a good reason to be off topic. Mark, I think you should check your math, if he's born in 1992 and its 2009, then he is 17 at most and 16 if his birthday hasn't happened yet. Meaning the boy is still jb.
  20. I'm on a Jay Brannan kick right now. He came up on shuffle a few days ago and its been stuck in my head ever since.
  21. All my Nursing major friends are on an internship at various hospitals so they all got it, none of them seemed to have any ill-effects (pun intended). I personally am not going out of my way to get one. I am having enough trouble avoiding common ailments this year that swine flu is the last thing on my mind.
  22. Thank you for being so darn prolific. I have been quarantined in my apartment with this little fun sign ...or so my bf claims, sick for the past 2 days with some plague or another (How excited I am that I can actually use that emoticon in a post and it be relevant ). Your writing is like mental popcorn I can just munch through as I veg in bed. Hurray for free refills!
  23. As a child of the 90's I am going to have to go with the Disney films. I adore Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, and Little Mermaid. There is something about the hand drawn technique that Disney used back then that gives it that something extra. The new Disney movies just can't really compare, though Up did come pretty close.
  24. Living through my life is not in your best interest at all. I spent the day curled up on a couch in the quiet section of the library writing papers...now I have migrated to my bed to finish them. Unfortunately for the bed, sleep is not in the forecast for a few more hours, it just beats the library furniture.
  25. Your best bet is definitely do go to one of the schools. They may be novices, but usually it ends better than anything I could do myself. Though making friends with a hair stylist is also a very good route. I have a really good friend at home who is one. I just go visit her at work, she takes one look at me and my shaggy hair, forces me into the chair and does it. No muss no fuss, only problem with hairstylist friends is you end up with what they want and are often the guinea pig...for better or for worse.
