hmmm two things: "James Fairfax" a gay journalist? very Australian inside joke!! the australian flag under the American (US) flag.... Nope. Two flag two poles, same height, pls. Also unlike the US flag the Australian flag isn't afraid of the dark so it can stay up all night!! 🙂 Great story, nice detail. Thanks

Very well done with Claire's character. What was and has been for many stories a character of stiff formality, has not so much changed as shown us the consequences of being so buttoned up that when this situation re Jack exploded she couldn't cope. I think Mark has made it clear that Claire's relationship with the no hoper will go no where; it's merely a reaction of someone who has lost control and is now lost. Great writing. Thanks.

I came home to have lunch with my husband, but had to put him offer as Grainger arrived! Fortunately, my husband is used to being held at arms length when my sailor arrives! What a complex state of affairs he has encountered. I do want to think well of Lady Grainger, but on the evidence so far.... Mind you, Mr Arbour presenting us all the evidence necessary to make a sound decision has not happened since before Grainger was in short pants, so no reason why he'd help us now!

Interesting world in this drama. I grew up in a similar all encompassing family, albeit with 10% of the money, 1% of the drama and only me as the gay bloke. I get why the whole exposé scene had to be there; it's how these characters are. But it does say something after seeing/hearing about exploding aircraft, a rape, multiple and random sex scenes, the hideous Curtis Black and costume drama at the Met Ball almost the most shocking is the Claire/Jack announcement! Gotta hand it to the puppet master, he certainly knows how to keep the hook firmly in place! Thanks.

Facing a couple of Danish battleships on a lee shore sounds more fun that messing in that nest of vipers, the House of Lords! Dearest Grainger will need a whole lot of new weapons and tactics here and now. A decent set of allies wouldn't go amiss! Thanks for the dose of Grainger, even if he managed to remain both clothed and vertical. Great writing as ever. Much appreciated.

Great chapter. Agree that the Escorial dinner was one for the books. Looking at the date the whole cell phone tracking must have come as a huge shock, by 2023 it seems just par for the course. It's amazing how fast we surrendered something once considered so private. Love Steff's comment about being locked up until age 29! The attempted murder of Curtis and Darius is going to provide Mr Arbour with a whole new source of thrills, spills, shock and awe; can't wait! Thanks.

Come on, haven't you ever got so annoyed with your children that you have thought "well, I'll just blow up my private jet"?

Great chapter. I was relaying the 'shrooms scene to my husband (who has FAR more experience at that than vanilla ole me) who predicted the scene well.... looks like you, Mr Arbour, have a good expert on psychedelics close at hand...... The exploding plane..... that is a whole new level! Children can be exasperating, but either Buck is psychotic or (surprise!) Mark has a twist..... Congrats. Great stuff.

I think I'd be just a little annoyed if I was CJ. Flettered at the attention, but still an annoyed at being so blatantly used. Certainly a great way to drive a plot forward! One minor correction; the British Ambassadors wife would only be "Lady Dorothy" if she was the daughter of a Duke, Marquess or Earl. As the wife of a knight or Baronet she is Lady (husbands surname). Your character may have senior aristocratic parents, however as you mention the Ambassadors knighthood, I suspect not! Thanks again; great writing.

Great story. I've been a bit slow, but catching up. CJ needed someone a little smarter to debate him on the evils of private charity. Thanks!

A bath with Grainger would ALWAYS be "restorative"😉😇👍

Secret Will's are really a pet hate of mine. Now I realise we are in the bizzarity of regency UK, so my annoyance is wasted (which doesn't make it any less annoying). However I calm myself by knowing that Mr Arbour has a genius for creating tension in the midst of his literary flourishes and debates on the political status and moral flexibility of women. A chapter from our favourite author is truly a wondrous thing! Happy New Year!

My thought exactly! Mr Arbour is so cunning, we are just putty as he manipulates us... and resolution (Mr Arbour's version of resolution that just adds one more twist to our knickers) to come in 2023! Compliments of the season to all Mr Arbours captives!

May I suggest that Daventry is a lot more liberal in his views re Caroline than some commentators here.... Thank you for another installment of this great saga. The interchange between Grainger and Daventry was fascinating and a testament to superb writing skills. On another note I really would like someone to explain to me why I dislike/have such reservations about Cavendish? Of course it could be jealousy.... Thanks again, and I wish you great happiness and joy over the Christmas period. Nb look forward to next episode...January you mentioned....the 1st perhaps😘🤭😁

These kids live lives of such high drama. I am just so glad they have the financial resources to support said drama! Travis story-line of living in such fear of and lack of respect for his father must be more common than my life experience suggests, but it must produce very damaged adults. Great writing. Enjoying this almost as much as the Grainger saga (speaking of lives of drama!) Nb mentioning Grainger was only a little hint 🤭🤣

Yes, great Sunday read., tho' like most of our beloved authors writings all it does is make this reader want more! Will does seem to analyse an awful lot. I am not sure this is always good. Reaching out to JP was very sensible. Sunday dinner will be one to watch! Thanks

I have this fantasy where Steff bankrupts Conrad Black, Donald Trump and Rupert Murdoch ( and has a threesome with Lachlan).... just think how much better this century would be! Failing that we have Mr Arbours writing.... almost as satisfying.....

It is interesting how our beloved hero is two different but overlapping characters; Grainger at sea and Grainger on land. He is an interesting (and lovable) character in both settings. Good to see him back. While I do like "the other story", this one is my passion! Thank you.

From experience those "concerns" are exactly the concerns any charter would have with what appears to be "wannabe A-list power brokers". Crew and staff stress levels would be through the roof. Of course we know they are all angels; v sexy angels!

So what dud did you saddle us Australians with as PM? We have only just got rid of the last dud, so the thought we get another in 15 or so years is depressing!

"Talk"? I am assuming that's a euphemism! So far the majority of "talking" has been done naked in variations of horizontal! So far these three have taken communication via the "queens english" to whole new levels.
