I interview a lot of MM Authors on my website. I'm going to try to post those interviews here in case readers on GA would like to learn about new authors that write MM fiction. Today Jamie Lynn Miller stops by to talk a bit fan fiction, why she writes eBooks and, oh yeah, her her new book, Memory's Prisoner. Thank you so much for hosting me here today, Andrew, I really appreciate it. Today I'd like to talk about why I got into writing ebooks, back in 2008. Unlike some opinions I've read over the years, I embrace my fan fiction roots. I started back in 1995, writing X-Files fiction and it just spiraled on from there. In fact I'm still writing fan fiction today and loving every minute of it. There's always been this general impression in the "professional world" that all fan fiction is garbage, written by 15 year old girls. Well sorry, hate to tell you, but I've known fan fiction writers who would put professional authors (and TV show writers) to shame. And there's been plenty of professional paperback novels I've read that belong in the trash can. I'd finally gotten so fed up with fan fiction writers being looked down upon that I set out to prove (to myself at least) that my writing was good enough to get published, despite my "roots". And look at that, it was! Five times so far! After my fourth book with the same publisher I challenged myself again - to submit to another publisher. Would I be good enough for someone else? And look at that, Dreamspinner accepted me on my first try! My next challenge is self-publication and I'm already well on my way. I should have that book out in the next month or so. Bottom line - everyone's got to start somewhere. And for me (and many of you) it was the fan fiction world. Everyone needs to hone their craft and there is no harsher critic than fandom. I took my bumps and bruises along the way and it made me a better writer, to what I am today. In fact, if it hadn't been for fan fiction I never would have discovered my love of hurt/comfort, which is now the main theme in all of my ebooks. And Memory's Prisoner here is no exception. This time the hurt is both physical and emotional with Mitch and Joey needing to lean on each other to get through their injuries that have changed their lives, providing the comfort they both desperately need. Thanks again, Andrew, for having me here today! I hope to hear from all of you who are also proud of your fan fiction roots! Read on for an excerpt from Memory's Prisoner... Blurb: Detectives Mitchell Reid and Joseph Valentino of the Chicago Police Department have finally moved from friends to lovers, partners on the job and off. Then an escaped bank robber with a thirst for vengeance shatters their world. The police tactical raid to recapture the convict goes horribly wrong, leaving Mitch severely wounded and Joey with a devastating head injury. They both survive, but Joey’s long-term coma and memory loss will change their lives – and love – forever. ~~~~~~ Excerpt: Mitch crouched at the corner of one crate, preparing to slip to the next closest one. The flash from a rifle’s muzzle inside the warehouse caught Mitch’s eye as it illuminated the gunman. Doyle. Their eyes locked and an evil, maniacal grin crossed the psychopath’s face. Mitch’s cover had been blown. A split second later he heard the ominous click of the triggering mechanism inside the crate he was leaning against and Mitch knew he had seconds to live. Launching himself up and away from the crate, heedless of the gunfire surrounding him, Mitch desperately tried to put as much distance between himself and the bomb as he could. Four frantic strides were all he could manage. The force of the explosion threw him off his feet and hurled him forward, wave after wave of intense heat and debris at his back, before he slammed down onto the dock. Excruciating pain like he’d never known raced through his battered body as he rolled across the wooden surface before coming to rest on his back. Dazed and winded, fighting unconsciousness, Mitch heard Tim frantically calling his name. His head lolled to the side as he tried to answer but his gaze caught sight of the torn, bloody mass of flesh that was his left leg. “NO! MITCH!” Joey’s cry of utter terror drew Mitch’s attention from his mangled body. He looked up to see his partner racing toward him, surrounded by Team Three, weapons blazing. Uncaring of the extreme danger he was in, Joey charged forward in a desperate rescue attempt, his fear for Mitch written all over his face. Horrified, Mitch tried to call out, managing only a hoarse whisper. “No… get back….” Two feet from Mitch it happened. Another crate exploded, sending huge pieces of debris through the air. Unable to slow down or change course, Joey plowed directly through the explosion, his head suddenly snapping violently to the side as a large piece of wood impacted it. “JOEY!” The scream was torn from Mitch’s throat as he watched his partner’s expression change from one of terrified concern to one of total confusion as the wood hit its mark and his body crumpled like a rag doll. The nightmare had begun. ~~~~~~ About The Author: Jamie Lynn Miller has been writing fiction since childhood and decided to take the plunge and go pro in 2008, finding to her amazement that people truly enjoyed her love stories. She’s a romantic at heart, and her tales reflect the desire we all have to find “the one,” persevering through trials and heartache for that happy ending. Jamie has a degree in fine arts and has spent the last twenty years working as a graphic designer, though she’d much rather be writing. She was born in Chicago and still lives there today with her husband and their two furry, four-footed children, er… cats. If she’s not brainstorming story ideas, you can find Jamie at a sci-fi convention, in front of a furnace doing glass blowing, or on a mat twisted into a yoga pose. Dave, what else did you expect? You've known me long enough to know that I like to set the table and you decide what to eat. But I think I left you with enough details to decide what they have for 'dinner'

I hung up the phone, and wished for the first time in months that I could swap Gar in and out at will. Then I saw Ryan staring at me. His lips were taut and he twisted a napkin so tight the tip of his finger had turned red. It didn't take much to realize I never wanted Gar back–ever. "So….." Ryan unwound the paper and wrapped it back. "Griffin's missing." I knew he'd want more, but he needed to hear everything. Grasping his hands in mine, I removed the constricting wad of napkin and put it on

Not a thing Dave, not a thing.

Seriously? Cliffhanger? Me? Pshaw. You ain't seen nothing yet girl. I'm just warming up. I mean hell, I left the entire book with a cliffhanger didn't I? I'm sure I can do better. Just give me a chance. As for the sex, yeah well, um, I write SOO many sex scenes, I figured I'd go without one for a change - yeah that's it.

Ryan tossed a copy of the Washington Post onto the table. Pointless as it was, I did as expected and picked it up. I didn't need to read the words to know what happened. After glancing at the headline, I put it down. "Did you expect anything else?" I figured coffee might help relax him, so I grabbed a mug from the cabinet and slipped one his favorite cups into the machine. "You knew?" "Knew? No. But as I said to Griffin before we left DC, the Bureau was never going to let their secret file o

Thanks Stephen. I think that 'normalcy' might prove a facade that Will only maintains becuase he loves Ryan and doesn't want anything to ruin his outlook. Eventually Ryan might join Will's world view, but here too, I figure Will is going to do his very best to shield RYan from that reality as long as he can. As for can't last? I think I wouldn't bet against Will.

Glad you were pleasantly surprised, I'd been gone for a while so I know I disappointed a few people. That said,I think the odds were NEVER in Barrington's favor. All he had going for him was Ryan's kind nature. I suspect without knowing, Will would have gladly snapped his neck and not lost any sleep over it, if Ryan hadn't insisted he play nice. - Just sayin.

Thanks Dave, I hope this one - which is much shorter - will make the grade. It's not going to have the love/relationship part the original had - because, well how could it right? But I think it came out well Thanks again. Andy

It's said, "absence makes the heart grow fonder," I've just never figured out who did the research. Ryan'd only been gone three days, and my heart was anything but fond of the separation. Then again, the research never considered the affect of being host to a spirit. The logic part of me knew there was nothing to worry about. Even though Ryan had only been a host for a short time, the Purpose had enhanced his body enough that he'd be well beyond most people already. So why did I worry? "Becaus

Will is back in DC because his friend Detective Griffin is missing. Spoiler Alert - reading this before Purpose will spoil the ending of Purpose.

Haha, yeah I wanted there to be those 'real' moments. We don't always have the right answer, we don't always do the right thing - we often don't think beyond our naughty bits - at least that's true for men - so I wanted Dean to be torn between his brother and what's right on one hand - and a nice piece of... you know what. When I get back to this story in the not too distant future, we'll see what happens. Bets anyone??

Thanks so much for the comments, they totally help keep me motivated. The marriage issue has so many facets to it. One very good friend of mine suggested that since Mike and I were married in all ways, we really should go do it for the good of the 'herd' so to speak. That we should do it to let future generations know that making the commitment was something Gay couple could and should want and do. Other friends won't do it - because they feel it's an institution for straight people and they don't need someone to say it's valid for it to be valid. Me? I think there is a huge benefit to standing up and saying I do. I don' think people need to wait 18 years like we did, but I think the act of doing it and saying it, and getting it validated by the state IS important and meaningful. I have to say that I didn't know how it would feel after 18 years to 'walk down the aisle', but that day is one I won't forget. I still see what Mike looked like, how 'lil q looked and acted. I won't say it was worth the wait because it should have been allowed much sooner, but it was definitely worth doing. As for SS in print? It needs a major edit and it needs to be two books. I've toyed with it from time to time, so we'll see. Maybe? Is that good enough?

Dean is one of those younger brothers who is smarter than their older sibling, but not nearly as wise. Mainly because the older sibling has been there to keep them out of trouble - until they're not (Not that I'd know anything about being a younger sibling whose older sister kept him out of trouble, but when she went away to college I got in trouble - nope not me ) Dean is now going to need to learn things on his own, like it or not, whether Jason likes it or not either. So when I pick this up soon, I'll see where it goes. Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment.

Thanks - I had a variety of reason for keeping the sex down and I'm pleased you saw there was a purpose to it when I finally got around to it. I'd like to think I can write it if I wanted to, but honestly, I find as a reader that if you get me to the bed, I've got a pretty good imagination and I can figure out what they did and be happier than reader someone else's version of it lol. Thanks for the note, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I have so much more i want to do with it, but time is always my issue of late.

Chapter 5: Shot Across the Goal
Andrew Q Gordon commented on Andrew Q Gordon's story chapter in Chapter 5: Shot Across the Goal
Like I said in the other responses, for some odd reason I missed all these - I hope you got a chance to read it all and that Darryl got more of his due. Thanks for the review - and sorry for the late late response. -
Chapter 50: Epilogue
Andrew Q Gordon commented on Andrew Q Gordon's story chapter in Chapter 50: Epilogue
I'm really sorry I missed this - for some reason I didn't get the notices on any of these and now - months later I see them. Reviews like this make writing worth it. Sales are nice, but knowing someone really enjoyed it is something you can't replace. I think of all my stories, this one has stuck with me the most - by that I mean I can still see them and what they're 'doing' at odd moments. I wish I had infinite free time - I've so much more I want to write. LOL Thanks again. Andy -
Wow, how did I miss this? I think i need a forensic sketch artist to describe who I would use. I always have images in my head, but they don't always translate into known actors. Alex Pettyfer is a close estimate of Jason - Peter is harder, I can't think of anyone who'd I'd say fit, Beau is close, but not quite. Too bad google won't let you search by what someone looks like LOL

"Do you ever think about getting married?" Blake asked as he poured water over his head. The question caused Jason to stop drinking. Blake and Ethan had been 'dating' less than a month. "Yeah, I sometimes. Why?" Before he answered, Blake shook his head, spraying Jason with water. "Hey!" Jason flicked his bottle at his friend to no avail. "Sorry." He turned and shook again. "It was running down my back." Jason rolled his eye and used the bottle of his shirt to wipe his face. "That usually ha

B-man - well Dean I don't think is as aware of his 'status' as others. His grandfather is the university's biggest benefactor. And while he's not always mindful, others - not naming names - might be a bit more aware of it. Just say. LOL
-
Yeah, well I've had this ready to go for a while, I've just been bad about getting them posted. There are only a few chapters left with this before I take a break and start a few other things. BUT I do promise to pick it up soon. Thanks B-man

Haha behave? Please. Dean's going to need to learn the hard way I think. :-)

I think that's probably best. Darryl is a wise man - Dean would do well to pay heed to his words
