Try "The House Always Wins". I like that one, it's one of the better ones. Or give Confounded II and III a go. Confounded I is not a good story, in terms of character development (Mitchell). I'm trying to make up for it in Confounded III. Edit - I should amend this by saying that even though it's not the best, the info from Confounded I directly sets up the whole thing.

They're about an hour, hour-and-a-half apart now, both in Maryland, US. I'm not using a specific location for Adam because someone might live there and call me on a local faux pas, like "this street doesn't go north to south', or 'That lake doesn't have houses' or 'I live there! He's my neighbor!" or whatever. He's somewhere in Maryland, I'll leave it at that, and Kai is currently at Walter Reed, which is specific, and is in Bethesda, MD.

LOL! Yes, I did. Not on purpose! That just happens, every so now and then. But you'e all very lucky. The Netherlands is having a shi**y summer. Lots of rain and cold (15 degrees celcius). Bah. Good weather for writing. We're not allowed to up multiple chapters a day. Only 1, and doing that, i'd run out of chapters too fast for the editor to keep up. So I gotta pace it a bit.

Oh, I've been known to make readers wait for a year.....woops? LOL! It doesn't happen on purpose, but sometimes I write a lot in one go, when the mood strikes me, and then it's months of absolutely nothing, no inspiration. Confounded II took ages. Mind you, I started this one during Confounded III - it came into my head and wouldn't let go, so I had to get rid of the excess story in my head so it wouldn't mix up with Confounded III. Now that they're separate, I can finish both, and should be able to.

Hmm, I can imagine songs in parts of the story. This chapter was written with "Tell me now (what you see)" by Moya Brennan on repeat. The rooms have not been painted yet. There's a reason for it, which will become evident soon enough. The cigars is purely an atmospheric thing, it takes him back to evenings with his nan, reading while a cigar of hers lay forgotten in an ashtray. That particular visual evokes happiness and comfort in him.

Doubter beds are pretty common, it's like 1.5 bed. I never heard the English term for it, and apparently the editor neither, because he removed/changed it, lol! But it's not for me either; king size please, even when alone. I want room. 😂 He did not meet Megan during the sale, because he bought it, sight unseen. Just from pictures when he contacted a realtor when he was looking for a place, willing to renovate. He bought it for the location. But he met her sometime after, briefly. That'll come up soon. It's something he's forgotten. 😊

It's not blatantly asked or offered. But a good question, one I didn't want to blatantly address in the letters. Might come across as very rude. It's more in the way they respond to each other that they both know: yeah, this is alright, I can be myself. True, and it's in his mannerisms and style which, while stereotypical, works. At least, for this story. But his empathy when responding to Kai about Ryan is a bit of an inkling that Kai's in the clear, so to speak. He senses that he's got a likeminded individual in correspondence. It won't. 😂
