CHAPTER 9 - Adam I was just done with the dishes - after a late dinner - when my mobile rang. I picked it up, checking the number. Unknown. “Hello?” “Good evening, Adam.” I almost dropped the phone. I knew right away who it was. His tone was intimate, like he knew me. Oh my god… “...Kai?” I asked. “Hi,” he answered, sounding a little apprehensive then, “did I call at a bad time?” “No! No, no! It’s just…oh gosh, I hadn’t expected…hi! I didn’t even say hi!”

Ahhh, ok! Sorry, I don't really read other stories. There's a reason for that - I don't want to inadvertently copy story ideas. Know that if something in m stories is similar, it's because both authors dreamed it up independently. At lest this 'author' did.

He's unapologetic because what he says might be crude, rude, straightforward, it's true. Many say they like to hear the truth but then begin to hang requirements on it, as to how that should be conveyed. Doc doesn't care about the feelings he might hurt. You've correctly caught on to that possibly becoming overbearing. I'm gonna say - that would all depend on the person he tries to 'bully'. He is observant, let's keep it at that. There may be an upcoming conversation scene somewhere, I'm not going to say when, where this might be a subject. Whether that be a convo between Adam and Doc or Adam and Steve Kai or Kai and Doc - wait a minute, I should make a poll as to which the readers would prefer. 😂 What'd you think the topic of conversation might be, @Summerabbacat? 😉 She certainly is not a princess. Quite a bit more of that coming up. 😉 There are worse reputations to have like, oh, I dunno, being a writer who makes his audience wait for long stretches of time?

🙏 He's fun, isn't he? I love writing his scenes. Oh, he does, but only to one particular person. 😉 The phone call....ah....that's next up. I'll consider upping that maybe next week...🙏 🙏 Though not based on those two (considering they both have gorgeous hair), Doc is a scene-stealer, as I think of him. Such characters are fun to write because they get to say things we don't dare say out loud. He does it with a bullhorn. 😂 😈 Wow, you all love Doc! I did not expect that! In this day and age, inappropriate people are silenced quick. I tend to befriend exactly those people. Doc is based on a real life colleague of mine, who really does say the most inappropriate stuff. But he is a she in my case. It's always fun to see her open her trap, listen to what comes flying out and then watch jaws drop and stuttering replies happen, if any come at all. It's pure entertainment, lol! And yes, she is a doctor (Psych). Patients all love her, because she's real, has no patience....well, you read the line above. 😉 You've caught on to the reason for his being in the story - the connection to family, to bring Kai's family in, especially his sister. She's somewhat inappropriate in her own way. Doc will be back. And it's quite possible he'll be even more inappropriate. Quite possible.

This is a big chapter. The reason for it is that I didn't want to a) break it up and b) want the chapters to alternate between Kai and Adam constantly. I don't want two chapters with the same viewpoint in a row. So at times, you'll get these bigger ones. 😊 I did a quick edit just now, added a line to explain something.

CHAPTER 8 - Kai “Yo! Heads up, bro,” Kellan grinned as he came in with the eldest of my nephews. The boy immediately launched himself onto my bed. “Cody!” I smiled, spreading my arms; he dove right in, knocking me back. I winced a bit; sometimes, sudden movement still lanced a shot of pain down my back. “Owww! Wow, now that’s a hug!” It was also about a week after the minor surgery. “Son! Not so rough with your uncle. He’s feeble, still.” I sent my brother a glare. Feeble?

The end. It was changed. There used to be a different ending to the story, feeling far more rushed than this version. It didn't feel like an end, back then.

I love this comment @Bft. It's because you're reading it that I went back and just read parts of it. Some of it makes me cringe, but the overall premise is fine/good.

Oh, I wanna rewrite the second half of this, so much. "You," he interrupted, "are not going anywhere! You belong here, with me. I’ll lock the elevator if I have to." My heart began to pound. Oh God, if only he’d say it; I’d never dream of going anywhere, ever again. "What if there’s a fire?" He glared. Okay, so maybe not the right time to be cheeky.. This bit is probably the best of the whole thing. LOL. I especially like the 'what if there's a fire' response. That's cute. 😂 Overall, not a bad try. I still like the premise of this story.

Re-read it again, 6 years on. I'd rewrite some of it, but Jason is pretty good here. He's cute, in a young adult way. I wouldn't change much for him, other than his thoughts, bring those more in line with himself. Olivia could use a few different lines, but she's good, here. Serves the story.
