I don't know that what you say is true... Poetry, great poetry might still be written, just nobody has an interest in reading poetry most of the time... And Many people like to keep their poetry to themselves... such as my mother. Remember poetry is a very private thing that many times describes the writers emotions on particular moments... for oral traditions and so on in the Modern First World... Hows this Alligators in New York's Sewers... The story about the girl who had sex with her boyfriend then the next morning woke up to him dead hanging upside down with his hand moving back and forth on the top of the car...(she was still in the car i might add) Science fiction is a dream about the future that's been going on since the beginning of Man, just in different forms...Science fiction is just the newest form of it, and that form has actually been around since the 1800's when men first dreampt of time machines and going to the moon in something resembling a rocket...

Well Star Trek i found to be... not possible... not with humans not ever.... To Krista's Comment about fantasy, many stories contain things about Orcs which were created by Tolkien almost entirely, and Hobbits definately were... so again... Fan basis? Truth is what we write is based on something that came before... in one form or another most of the time, either it has similar creatures (fantasy, vampires, werewolves so on) similar types of travel (in space exploration...) Similarly things can be new in form as well, or can tweek something into making something new. To me Fanfiction many times is blatent in it's attempt to make say the Harry potter stories bend to your will. it isn't taking someone's universe and adding new characters into it, or making a substory or a spin off story from it.. But Like making Harry Date Draco, or Hermine a lesbian... although I personally think in the long run she would be better of than with Controling crazy Red head boy...

well when you really think about it.... All Vampire books are a type of Fan fiction of Bram Stoker's Dracula... R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt U'rden Books are all Fan fiction of either his own rpg within the Game of Dungeons and Dragons for Farun, or a fan fiction of it. Video game companies and other gaming companies have authorized "fan" fiction published all the time... World of Warcraft had Arthas (the book) Dungeons and Dragons litterally had thousands, by R.A. Salvatore, Margeret Weiss... and others... Elderscrolls Had two books published in between the Games Oblivion and Skyrim which explains the history that happened there in the form of two stories... Magic that Gathering had a good half-dozen books published... Heck I own and have read some of these books, I own a large amount of R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt Books... (and when I own a book it means I enjoyed it enough to read it again... because I can remember the plot of every book i ever read...)

I don't know about any of you but i've been seeing bee hives everywhere....(this year) so the honeybee disappearing i find unlikely. one that thinks with the pocket book and not the head....

Problem is there are wildfires everywhere right now, and really not enough firefighters to cover them all, and put them out Arizona, Montana, California dozens of other places... Interesting Article, I don't know that Marijuana growing is illegal in Montana now however... "medical" marijuana is legal in the state.... I might add quite a few card holders don't use it for Medical use but recreational... Believe me you can actually let it burn... questions really if you want to let it burn... I remember as a 12 year old going through to Yellowstone and seeing thousands of acres of burned forest.... And these were burned out long before I was born, you could see the new growth of trees under the old burned ones.... it was kind of a strange and sad sight.

no idea if i have experienced this Phenomon, I can safely say it wasn't getting a haircut... with my mother it's kind of violent... pulling tugging pushing your head side to side... I guess i never got over that, cuz no beautican or barber was like that... other than my mom...

Oh i would probably go back and kill myself, paradox be damned actually in seriousness I probably would, it would solve many of at least my problems... although I'd like to go back and witness some events first hand in history, I also know I'd probably considered a barbarian and be arrested and otherwise killed... or just simply not understood after all go back to the civil War you can't even understand what they're saying....

well then don't ask them to beta read it... problem solved... I mean many times it's the author who asks the beta reader isn't it...

I don't like fan fiction.... for multiple reasons.... one I've always considered it something a person does when they have little imagination of their own... to create their own worlds and universes and so on... for two I can't get into it... when I read i story If i want to have something special in it i put himself into the story in my own head... doesn't everyone though... I don't write about it however that would require me to create a character that follows the rules of the genre.... And I have never tried putting different characters into positions that I favored... Ie like Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy, to which I just realized why I like Malfoy... it's the way he looks.... reminds me of people I was attracted to as a tweenager.

although you might consider hunger games post apoclyptic... simply because this world would have to have something to break down it's current society in order to cause that.... I personally think the confusion is because we live right now in a dystopian society... We don't consider it such because we live within it. Really people always have lived in one within the era they existed within, because there is always something wrong within a society... because otherwise it would be considered a utopian society... however... to me dystopian is a society that appears at the surface to be Utopian, but is seriously messed up when you get down to it... case and point would be... Logan's Run http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logan%27s_Run_%281976_film%29 and i was mulling over this on my 2 mile or so walk.... or two hour walk.... along with the meaning of life or specifically lack there of.... Dystopian fiction at least the older ones from what i remember attempt to picture this world in 50 or a 100 years in it's most dark and sad... Farenhiet 451 and what makes them is that you could see life becoming that way....i can still see life becomeing that way now... we're very close to being a society much like depicted in that book. Jules Vernes "paris in the Twentieth Century" is another example I remember hearing about Dystopian work (which I might add some think looks very much like the real Paris of the Twentieth Century...) beleave me you wouldn't like a dystopian novel if i was to write one...it would probably get a similar response as Jules Vernes book...

there is a book series that does that temeraire or something the series is called. (have dragons in a non-mideaval setting...)

by the time i got to the Knife of Dreams, i started to really dislike Rand Al Thor.... and wasn't to sure about Perigrin (can't spell his name) i love Matt.

well I like L.E. Modisitt Jr's Imager Series Most of Edding's series of books... which the exception of the Dreamers and the Redemption of Athalus...(they ended really lame) Raymond E. Fiests continueing sagas about Pug. Sword of Truth up to the pillars of Creation... The Wheel of Time. Scott Lynch's Lies of Locke Lamora, and Red Seas Under Red Skies... I like lots of others, but those are the ones i like the most... (although not in any particular Order)
