Perhaps it is one of the countries that punishes female rape victims if they report it, too. In some places women are put to death for the crime of adultery if they are raped.

Supposedly if you ask someone a question that requires a bit of thought, you can observe which direction they move their eyes while they think, and the opposite direction is their dominant brain hemisphere. Well, of course she spins the opposite direction in the Southern Hemisphere, just like the water leaving the tub. Johnny Carson was extremely introverted, as is David Letterman.

In real life she would soon fall over. Dancers and especially skaters use a method called "spotting" during spins. You focus your eyes on a given point as you turn and then snap your head around to keep facing that way. If how you perceive this depends upon whether you are right- or left-brained, then when you perceive a change of direction, does it mean that you keep changing from one to the other? I don't think so, so I'm skeptical that it bears any relationship to that topic. I have a half a mind to object.

Freud saw sexual themes in just about everything. Flying in dreams, he said, symbolized erections. He similarly interpreted other things that defy gravity, so I guess that's what he'd make of skiing uphill.

There's a politician I won't mention by name, so that this won't be construed as a political message, but I've seen numerous references to him in terms of the Village People. No one is suggesting that he might be gay, but it has been pointed out that he's photographed in a Navy flyer outfit, or a hardhat, and even more often in a cowboy getup. People ask if he ever puts on a headdress. So the Village People remain in the consciousness of our culture, and occasionally the news will remind at least some folk about them.

I saw it on Broadway with Angela Lansbury and Len Cariou. It was certainly an experience. It might not be exactly my idea of a Christmas movie. I'll see the movie one way or another, in the theater, or if I miss that, then on DVD.

I had trouble voting because I don't much like hypothetical kids. I often like and enjoy being around real ones, however, and that pretty much means taking them as they are.

I found a copy of that in the school library when I was in high school. It was one of the formative books I read at the time. Likewise, Flatland.

No, croquettes are little round patties or balls made with meat and or vegetables and fried. I especially like salmon croquettes. The game is croquet, pronounced sort of like "cro-KAY" unlike the food, which is sort of like "cro-KETT."

It still is. It expresses something about yourself, as you indicate, so it is appropriate as an avatar. I fail to see why. Degrading? Two fully clothed guys expressing affection, degrading to a site that has stories that include descriptions of various sex acts?

Somehow, I can't think of Belgium without thinking of King Leopold II. I won't get into the debate as to whether he was not quite as bad as Hitler or a lot worse than Hitler or about the same. But he certainly ranks way up there in terms of genocide, etc. Perhaps if I had eaten more Belgian chocolate or watched more Hercule Poirot episodes, I'd have some positive associations to distract me from the evil King.

That's fair enough. My ancestors shoved their native language down the throats of the people who were already here. I guess they were legal, at least in the sense that there were no immigration laws for them to break.

My gaydar is not great, but I'm convinced that if you're a guy and you spend time watching how guys walk, you're pretty definitely gay.

That is weird. In the US we don't have a Labour or Labor party. We have just two parties that dominate everything. One is a center-right party of big government and the deficits that generates, beholden to powerful lobbies and corporate welfare, and so is the other one. Oh, and "aluminium" is a misspelling and probably an affectation, but an errour that is repeated often enough becomes standard, as this one did in the UK.

I held forth on this in the Domaholics forum, so I won't rehash that here. When I think of "labor," I think of work. "Labour" to me is a political party. Otherwise, when given a choice between work and a party, I'd choose the latter. You mean "errour." What I really can't get used to in Britspeak is the use of plural verbs with collective nouns, z.B.: "NBC are announcing their new programme lineup next week."
