One thing I do know is that many if not most adults will not give any credence to what a teen might have to say, especially during an adult meeting. These are the ones that need to be pegged. Marc did this. Like it or not, you can't sit on a Board of Directors and at a Board meeting and allow yourself to be bullied into silence. Yeah, several months of a dry spell when you are used to getting it, er, most of the time(?) is guaranteed to make you cranky! 😮💨

It is done on this side of the pond, perhaps as much as in AussieLand. There is a certain mentality that fathers should provide a beer to their sons as a sign of their budding adulthood.

One would think that by now, the rumor mill would have alerted Chris of his folly! 🤭 Bet his folks aren't happy with him! So I wonder how much the seized Mini-Miner is going to cost!!! 😁

I'm gonna hate this when I catch up! 😉

The first time I read this, I had some ideas. That's all I want to say about that. 🤔

"Fare thee well, my sweet Janek. I must away..." Looks like this will be the last time Marc and Janek will be together. Marc is such a sweetheart to his little sister. Love the story, @P. E. Knapp.
-
That's what I thought. It is a multipurpose honorific.
-
Yes, that would do. Thanks, @P. E. Knapp. It was fun.

I've always thought that just about any man can be a Father. But it takes a special kind of love to be a Dad. Why Danny doesn't think of his step-father as his dad, has yet to be explained. Perhaps it is as simple as Brad never showing those qualities to Danny. It seems that Nate is the most mature of the two friends. At least, that's how Jake sees it. Now I'm waiting to see what kind of art Jake produces.

I'm also sure that Marc did this on purpose.

I see that everyone is more centered on the Benefits than the Friends part!

We can only speculate what "Issues" Marc may know about about Janek. We don't have much to go on at this point. Consider: Marc is not only defensively flying his ship but also virtually flying cover for the other ship. With all of that concentration, you want him to handle weapons too? Maybe. As a final resort. Reality says that a weapons officer adds to survivability.

Like @ReaderPaul, the title drew me here. This first chapter has me intrigued enough to continue on. I most likely will not comment further, unless it is something I read that's important, as I binge read...

Nice ending and an even better Epilogue. Thanks for bringing us along, @Lee Wilson.- 60 comments

Wonderful story, @P. E. Knapp. Short, sweet, to the point.

Whomever it is, they are fully trained whereas Jacob isn't. Since it is obvious that this other person could have taken Jacob at almost any moment, I suspect it is Q. Although, there was another person who wanted into Jacob's pants...

Um, exactly which time zone would that be? I think all the "tidying up" of the apartment happened before they knew they were being investigated by the FBI. At first, it would have been the San Diego PD on a missing person report. That likely caused them to make it look like Logan didn't live there. Now, however, the FBI is stepping in. The fishing pond just got larger.

LOL!!! I could tell but @Mark Ponyboy Peters would be awful mad at me. We wouldn't want that now, would we? Crap! Mark might be so mad he would stop posting!

Some boyfriend! I can't for the life of me figure out why Alex took 2 weeks to report Logan missing. A 2 week runner? On to chapter 3!!!
-
Nice start to this short story. Yeah, eventually hypothermia would have set in. It was already doing a job on Logan. It will be interesting to see what excuse Alex has for not reporting "man overboard"...
-
Heck of a place to leave the story. Nothing really seems to be resolved. I would hope that the fever breaks and that Zdain recuperates. On to the Five Hills...

The sun had set an hour ago and twilight was rapidly turning to the dark of night. Ronin and Katty had put off supper as long as they could but the little ones had become more cranky by the minute. Shamus said they needed to eat, it was a quick meal tonight. Mac & Cheese and hot dogs with a light salad. Robin had called Grandfather and let him know what was going on. At least as far as Robin could tell him. Drake was still there, just as concerned as everyone else. Everyone but Shamus. He just seemed to take the whole thing in stride. As it was, talk around the table was rather subdued. In the near distance, the screech of a large cat could be heard, followed by the triumphant howl of a wolf. Everyone stopped what they were doing and rushed for the front door. Two disheveled figures were walking up the drive. As they came closer to the light on the porch, you could see that their clothes were in complete disarray with most of their body covered in a layer of dirt. Their arms were around each other and they had the biggest shit-eating grins plastered across their faces. Shamus just shook his head, "You two boys hungry yet? Go wash up, dinner's getting cold." He turned to walk back into the house. "Come on kids, let's get back to eating." Danny just looked for a moment and then rushed toward his boy almost knocking him down. "Cawnew," he screamed!

It works if you work it... I love the ending of this chapter. Connor is further along in puberty and the mate bond just kicked in. At least, that's what I take as his reaction to seeing Dakota.

This chapter brought back memories of the times I spent on an uncle's farm. Learning how to run tractors and later combines at 10. At 14, when I could reach all the pedals, 10-wheeler dumps. I only had my britches warmed a couple of times before "Safety" became my mantra!
