  1. He just made big news when he died at 100 years old a week ago in neighboring Italy. Erich Priebke, an SS officer, who participated in the execution of 335 Italians during WWII, as countermeasures against the ambush and killing of 33 German soldiers by Italian partisans. Hitler had ordered a 10 to 1 ratio for the killing of every German soldier. It turned out that the Germans had brought 5 extra people up to the Andeatine caves over Rome, whom Priebke decided to have executed as well, even though the required ratio had been met, evidence that he had been willing to go above and beyond any orders he was given. He escaped to Argentina after the war, and Argentina extradited him to Italy in 1995. He was initially found not guilty, by reason of following orders, but it was eventually overturned, and he was imprisoned, though at home, due to age and infirmity. He had asked to be buried in Argentina, but Argentina refused, and meanwhile the Vatican forbid all Catholic churches to hold a funeral for him. Eventually he was buried by a catholic sect (?), and the occasion was marked by violence between anti-fascist and fascist groups.
  2. He looks like an Englisher version of my grandfather
  3. Hint! Hiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnttttttttt! ;(
  4. Right actor, wrong movie.
  5. Another film I won't admit having seen, but somehow I know quotes to "I bet nothing hurts you!" "Only pain."
  6. Unlike the naughty zombie and bear, I didn't look up the name tag. Not that I know who it is... But I just thought I'd mention how extra-good I am.
  7. Not that I admit to having seen the film or anything... but it's from Showgirls.

    Chapter 5: Home

    Thank you, kind reader!
  9. It seems to me that if Red had wanted his turn, he'd have mentioned the name. But I make no assumptions. I'm happy with either of you guys going, or we could get really crazy and you could post in parallel, so we have two different chances to guess!
  10. I'm not sure anybody's going to get it, Red, despite the wealth of clues you've provided. I'm intrigued by the significance of the character 3 in 1947, though. I couldn't find any references. What's that all about?
  11. Happy birthday, TJ!!
  12. Not a selfie, and he would have been a lot more used to being behind the camera, rather than in front of it.
  13. OK, this is easy, but I just like it too much not to quote it. "No wire hangers! No wire hangers ever!!"
  14. No, the movie is called "Clue"
  15. Clue. Uttered my one of my favorite actresses, Madeline Kahn.
  16. I don't know when the photo was taken but world war twoish looks correct. I don't think the #3 is significant.
  17. Well, help me out and you the next one, little blue one.
  18. Pretty Woman ("Close your mouth, dear")
  19. Right! And the quote is by Jeff Spicoli (played by Sean Penn). And S. Chief another film from my decade. Gosh, they just stopped writing good music and making good films after that.
  20. This was probably the American Pie of the 80s. Only better!
  21. It was a great clue, Kiltie, thanks! Learning about Cuba, and having some food.
