No, they hate their english lessons. because most of the kids have never had the chance to read a book for pleasure without being forced to dissect it, and find this so-called "author intent" rubbish that english teachers are so keen on. Most of them have never written anything just for themselves.
sure the the final aim of any writer is to get their stuff out there and make it good, but the point of Nano is just to sit and write. people who nano have to get rid of their inner editor, get over any ego that tells them to stop, removes all the obstacles to normally not completing. you sit, you write, you make the deadline. what you do with it afterwards, well that's up to you.
my job is not to teach them grammar or the rules of writing. i am simply going to give them an avenue to enjoy it. it's not a lesson, I'm not getting paid. we are writing because we want to.
