Cole Matthews commented on Cole Matthews's story chapter in Chapter 11 Fruit of the Tree of Love
Thanks Addy! So glad the hustle and bustle worked, because eleven characters is so many. Thank for all your help and Merry Christmas! We are baking something with quark tomorrow out of my new cookbook. Very excited! -

I’m glad you enjoyed it. I had a lot of fun with it. The cookie decorating party is a part of our lives, though we don’t have children. It does bring people together to “play with their food” thank you and Merry Christmas! -

Thanks Parker! And it’s raining in the desert. Randy is threatening to build and ark, so Santa can get to us. It’s our first Christmas here and definitely feels like it, especially after the stories. Have a very Merry Christmas! -

Chapter 11 Fruit of the Tree of Love
Cole Matthews commented on Cole Matthews's story chapter in Chapter 11 Fruit of the Tree of Love
When we first talked about doing the twelve days I immediately thought of the Piper family which is why I pounced on the idea. I’m glad you enjoyed it. And as always, thanks for all your help. Merry CHRISTMAS EVE! -

I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought out bagpipes. As you suggest, the Pipers are that kind of family. Thanks for the wonderful comments! -
When she gets to thinking, you know trouble is brewing.

Brrr!! It's so cold and dark this time of year. Time to put on that cardigan sweater, you know, the one with the patches on the elbows, pull out your trusty computer, sit by a roaring fireplace and let your imagination go wild. Or, if you don't have a roaring fireplace, maybe write about one! There is a fireplace blackened with soot. But, as you're about to pile in some wood, there is something sticking out from the corner. What is it? Immerse yourself in the mood and write a poem or short story. Or use a little of both. In the meantime, Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!

Chapter 8 - Hot Chocolate Milkshake
Cole Matthews commented on Cole Matthews's story chapter in Chapter 8 - Hot Chocolate Milkshake
I think there may be. The boys craved to hear about their father and certainly Jordan craves talking about them. We never really tire remembering our loved ones, even after they've been gone some time. Those memories make up part of us. Thanks so much for your help!!! -

Thank you so much Parker. That makes my day. I wanted to do a piece about remembrance and how it's both sweet and bitter. I'm glad that came through. I appreciate your comments! -

The Labors of Advent

I'm glad you saw that. It does have a kind of visitation feel to it, which I think is probably a bit subconscious on my part. I love that play and saw it just a couple of weeks ago, so it may have influenced me. Thanks so much for the comments! -
The Labors of Advent

I'm so glad you liked it. I wanted to do something different with the five golden rings, and when I saw a picture of a puzzle ring the rest started falling into place. I'm thrilled you enjoyed my antics. Thanks so much!!! -
And won't that be enough!!! Thanks for the comment.

Fruit of the Tree of Love By Cole Matthews “Eleven Pipers Piping” “Okay, everybody,” I called out to the throng assembled in the kitchen. The racket was stupendous. There were voices talking, children squealing, the clank of the oven door shutting, and underneath it all was the steady thrum of Christmas music. Nobody paid attention. Even my husband, Drake, was busy rolling out dough and instructing one of our sons to put fresh parchment paper on the cookie sheet.

He Sings a Love Song (Nine ladies dancing)
Cole Matthews commented on Aditus's story chapter in He Sings a Love Song (Nine ladies dancing)
Such a fun expression of the holidays and an awesome interpretation of this stanza. A lovely vignette of Christmas cheer, which the “ladies” are imbibing as we speak! -
Chapter 8 - Hot Chocolate Milkshake
Cole Matthews commented on Cole Matthews's story chapter in Chapter 8 - Hot Chocolate Milkshake
Thank you so much Dug. You have touched upon an idea I had with the story. Does their history really matter? Isn't this about Jordan's memory? And Jennifer and Gray's son's memories? They are the ones left behind who are missing that part of their hearts. Was there an affair? Does that actually matter? When we mourn a loss, it's so intensely personal, the connections are what matters. What a lovely idea you sparked. Thank you!!!! -

Thank you so much! Addy, it is very messy. I wonder what drove this, but I think it may be the missing parts of lives of those we've lost. Funerals always seem to be surprising to me. You find out lots of shocking things about loved ones, who you may think you already knew. Thanks for the help!!! -

I think Jennifer is brave as well. We need to process, in some ways, these experiences on a communal level. I really wonder at conventions we create as human beings and the purposes for them. Funerals have a place the helps us cope. For those most closely attached to a person, shared grief is healing. -
Chapter 8 - Hot Chocolate Milkshake

Absolutely. Redemption isn't easy nor is it automatic. It's a state that requires work, and in the end, release to be realized. There's a reason we have funerals. They are shared events that allow for expressions of grief to be experienced and shared. By everyone left behind. Thank you for your inspired comments. -
Chapter 8 - Hot Chocolate Milkshake
Cole Matthews commented on Cole Matthews's story chapter in Chapter 8 - Hot Chocolate Milkshake
How very true. The feelings you should have done more really drive a great deal of human emotions following a death. I think Jennifer is really struggling, as are her boys, with Gray's passing. She reached out blindly, and in this case, she found someone else who was also mourning. Thank you so much for the wonderful comments and ideas. -
Hot Chocolate Milkshake By Cole Matthews “Eight Maids a-Milking” Jordan looked in through the window of the storefront, frosted with white Christmas seasonal frocking, and chewed his fingernail. He wasn’t in there. Of course he wasn’t there. He looked again, wondering. Maybe their usual booth was full. Jordan saw ‘their’ booth was empty. It was ready to occupy. ‘Never know unless you try,’ came into his head. It was an aphorism he’d inherited fro
