    Doing the Tanka

Thanks so much! I like the poetic review!
  4. I had actually already read this but lost the thread of the story so am trying to pick it up again. I must say you do write well and I enjoy your characters (unlike auswombat or whoever it was that couldn't handle them as he though they were too unrealistic - must we always be so concerned with realism?). But enough of that. I like the way your write and your style. Great story that I am hoping to get back into even though the supernatural aspects are not quite my cuppa tea.
  5. Strange that you can write such deep thoughts in your boredom! Maybe you should keep bored more often. Haha!

    Chapter 10

Great contrasts here with the 9 to 5, the poor and you lost in your rhymes. That's life! You made your rhymes seem a bit trivial in the end though actually your life is as valid as any other and perhaps worth more. Maybe that's what you were getting at by doing that. I like it.
  7. We all wrestle with growing up. Perhaps its more poignant at your age, but I want to tell you it never stops! Even at my age! So better get used to it all your life and keep growing! Thanks for sharing your thoughts in poems. I love it!

    Monday

That was beautiful. I love the way you describe their loving interaction. It is so satisfyingly romantic and contented. A wonderful love!

    Chapter 9

Wow! A great ending with all neatly paired off and put away! Haha! A real romantic here! Well done!

    Chapter 8

Lots of confusion in the relationships now what with C back and his absence quite sensibly accounted for, his declaration of love, Will's love, Ruwan with his uncertain feelings for Will. Who will end up with whom? And what will Basil do? Will he go for broke or will he settle for less in order not to burden the one he really loves?

    Chapter 7

So very sad. Will's character will be tested to the uttmost in this and I wonder if he is up to it. Basil will have a real struggle coming through this and will need Will to be very very strong for him if he is to make it through. Catherine might take on Basil if Will drops the ball, but I doubt this Corneles fellow will be much good for anything. Why does he turn up now?

    Chapter 6

So the foreboding was leading to something. Damn! Though we were warned, so it did somewhat lessen the shock. This will have huge repercussions for them both. Can Will deal with a severely maimed partner? Can he learn to paint again? He's already been so hurt and burnt and now having to deal with all the shit from physical injuries like these might just be too much. Will he push Will away? Must say I was thinking at least he was in the canoe and could be handy to rescue Will when Will got attacked, then you totally reversed it so he was attacked in the canoe. Not sure whether that fits the normal for a shark attack though I believe they have attacked surf boards before.

    Chapter 5

There was much foreboding in the chapter not least brought on by the mention of sharks early on and then Ruwan's appearance and the argument. But it all ended well, so hopefully this foreboding is passed concern.

    Chapter 4

This is really affecting me deeply. I find I am re-reading most of it just to get it all again and make sure I haven't missed anything. It would have been too awful for Basil if William walked away at that point. I can't bear to think what it would do to Basil. Thanks for writing this amazingly sensitive story.

    Chapter 3

It's beautiful and so pulls at one's deepest yearnings. I love the sand and the beach too and the isolation. The surroundings somehow are appropriate to the emotions and the experiences. Love like this is the thing of dreams so not sure whether this is coming down at sometime with a big crash - sorry, probably reflecting my own insecurities here!

    Chapter 2

Wow! Short and sweet! Very very sweet, like the wine! You swept me up too! So romantic! Damn!

    Chapter 1

Very interesting and evocative. The second person is actually very unobtrusive and fitting. I was more put out by the unconventional structure, but it is totally appropriate, and so captures the man you are portraying as lonely, non-communicative, isolated, tortured in his internalizing and in his desire for this man who has intruded on his canvass and invaded uninvited. It conjures up so much in so few words.
  18. Too frustratingly short again! Ugh! Just not enough to move forward in the story and still at a deadlock with Josh and Ethan. Drat! Well, I'm not caught up it seems so will have to twiddle my thumbs until the next post.
  19. That was a short chapter. Could have had a lot more in it. A bit disappointing in that, but I understand you are under pressure and must concentrate on your studies. Josh's jealousy is so realistic and convincing. I feel for him and I get mad with Cody for trying to gain Ethan's interest. Though I'm sure that if Ethan is gay he's going to be far more interested in Josh than he will be in Cody. It's amazing that Ethan doesn't know about Josh being gay with his close friendship with Jacob and Jacob knowing.

    Feeling Down

Wow. Josh was very emotional with Jacob. It was the first time it struck me that maybe it wasn't that convincing somehow. A little overdone perhaps in the metaphor. Would, even a gay, 15 yr old, say what he said. I'm not sure. Otherwise a great chapter, and though there was little happening perhaps, it is moving along. Wish we could find out more about Seth. Seems he is in a bad place and maybe needs some friends and some help, but not sure how ready he will be to receive anything from anybody. I'm still thinking the worst of Philip, I'm afraid. He seems too much of an underhand type not to be up to something unsavoury. The weekend for Josh and Ethan will be very interesting. Jacob's weekend could be a bore as far as the story goes unless there are some interesting developments with the "family". Conrad is being a real asshole. A typical homophobe. Hope something can happen to knock him out of this. It would be a real shame for Josh if Jacob's brother ends up rejecting him or Jacob because of Josh being gay.
  21. I think Jacob's reaction was totally believable and convincing. I'm glad he did that too as it is needed to wake his brothers up to realities of their attitudes. Ian is a treasure and really loves Jacob. What a brother! It will be good for Jacob to play basketball with his brothers again so they can see he is still Jacob. Great chapter. Loving the story. Thanks for writing.
  22. The plot thickens as they say! Very interesting developments but glad that it doesn't involve Josh directly at this point. Seth may be the key to helping them deal with Philip in the end, and ensure Josh's safety with whatever Philip might be plotting. So we still not sure about Ethan, though at this stage I think it will be a surprise to find out he is not gay. Everyone has their suspicions, except for Jacob, and now he will be looking at Ethan a bit differently too. I marvel at how well you do writing in a language that is not your native tongue and doing it so well, and then setting your story in a country you don't live in. Wow! That is amazing that you pull this off.

    Chapter 18

Wow! Poor Sacha! But he's alive! Yes! He survived! I'm crying with Lacey in relief! God that was such a touching chapter. Even the closing lines with James. Though there's still the whole story of how they got out. Is that coming in another chapter? Something to do with his dad finding him? Again? Or was that just a flash back to the original finding, which seems like it was so long ago? I get a little confused reading a chapter at a time with long breaks in between. I wonder if I should put this aside and come back to it when you have finished it. Then I will make better sense of it, reading it through like a normal book instead of in installments. I'm not good with this installment thing.

    Little Talks

Josh really did have fun going out with the crowd and with his brother. That was such a nice chapter, getting to know them all a bit better and seeing the interaction between them. Sarah seems to be quite the "faghag" in the nicest possible way here. Josh spending time like that with her could be a dead give away, though he did make some excuse about asking her about Jacob (though even that was quite gay!) Surely Sarah must know. Girls pick these things up pretty quickly. And Cody seems to be fitting in with them so easily. Is this because Ethan is actually gay? No doubt. I'm glad Josh is jealous and determined not to lose Ethan to Cody though it could spell some trouble for the gay guys up ahead. Philip is really setting up Josh now, so that he can manipulate him. What is surprising is that Josh's homophobic father employed someone like Philip. Though it is often said that the louder the homophobe shouts just indicates the more he is a gay in the closet. Could it be? Of course, it won't change anything for Josh really, but it could give the story another surprising and shocking twist.

    Brotherhood

I think the blow up between them was appropriate. Josh was thoroughly put out and he reacted very convincingly about this information. I'm not sure it could have been any different. He would have reacted badly had Jacob told him earlier and so perhaps it was best to have waited until it was unavoidable. It's good that Josh has realized that Jacob isn't to blame for this and that they have made up. Jacob is appreciating just how much love Josh is in need of too and that is so considerate. He seems more sensitive to Josh's needs than Josh is to his needs, but maybe that's cos Josh's needs are greater. Loving the way this story is going. Yes, and even the bad stuff that is to come can be dealt with better for Josh knowing he now has Jacob and Ethan, and Sarah, and maybe Cody, and maybe Jacob's family. I think he will find there's more help than he thought possible when things go sour for him with his "family" (if we can call it that).
