    Chapter 28

Fantastic chapter, Mark! I love how JJ figured out how much skating fucked up his life. Looking forward to the reunion (for a given value thereof) with Alex. Also, the whole situation with Buzz is getting weirder and weirder. Is Brad going to end up hooking up with yet another guy who's been with one of his sons?
  2. Ah, so there are limits to your omnipotence.
  3. Honestly, I have a hard time remembering what happened in which book. I'm going to be useless at this exercise unless I reread the books and count deaths in real time.
  4. Technically, The Box is a book within a book. If one of the "present day" (1999) characters had died in the context of finding or reading Stephen's diary, that would have counted. Fortunately, diary reading isn't typically a hazardous activity, although one never knows with CAP.

    Prologue

Interesting beginning! Looking forward to more.
  6. Actually, does it have to be a character Mark killed off? For example, Matthew Shepherd was a real person whose death Mark incorporated into the story, but Mark (as the author) didn't determine that he would die.
  7. I'm fine with leaving out assumed deaths from old age. But Mouse was young and died a horrible death as part of a major plot point. I'd count him as a killed-off character. Besides, for a death like Aaron Hayes', we don't know when he actually died on that remote island. We only know when Stef got a letter about it and told Will. It's pretty much the same thing.
  8. Are we really not going to count Mouse? That seems so wrong as Mark clearly killed him off. Maybe between-book deaths could be counted as belonging to the books in which they're first mentioned? So Mouse's would be in A Summer Love.

    Chapter 4

Wow, that was intense! Things are looking both up and not so up for Ross. On the one hand, he still has a chance to train with the Leopards (Tony to the rescue!) but the situation with Stuart does not bode well.
  10. You're so sweet to indulge me.
  11. That's it for the whole chapter? No trying-to-stay-friends-with-your-ex-while-flirting-with-his-date song for Brad? No coming-of-age-and-assuming-a-leadership-role-in-the-family music for Will? No pissed-off-at-the-world-and-gonna-stay-that-way-no-matter-what-anyone-says song for JJ? I feel a bit cheated.

    Chapter 27

I'm going to disagree with the nice gentleman below regarding Brad's behavior with Marc. He managed to get there in the end, but hitting on one's ex's date at the first meeting after the breakup is distinctly immature. And then there was Will. What can I say? He gets awesomer and awesomer by the minute! Thank you for another wonderful chapter.
  13. That wouldn't have been anywhere near as funny, though.
  14. Southwest Airlines are pretty much known for 3 things: Cheap(ish) tickets No assigned seats Goofy flight attendants who make jokes/sing songs during announcements Also, there is NO first class. Mark captured JJ's dismal experience flying commercial perfectly. And hilariously.

    Chapter 26

Thank you, Mark! This was a delightful surprise. I'm sure Brad and Stef were relieved, too. Btw, I loved the contrast between their party jaunt to Tribeca and JJ's isolated limo ride. That said, JJ's travel ordeal was the highlight of the chapter. I started giggling as soon as I read Southwest and the prominent "C" on his ticket. It was perfect that he selected his seat based on a passenger's designer shoes.
  16. I'd forgotten that bit. I need to get over my dislike of The Land Whore" and reread the rest of the earlier books. I thought Van was more of an archetype for the Hayes, both look and personality. I don't think of Jeff or Robbie as being particularly alpha, although Matt certainly is.
  17. I definitely recognized the redhead-glory hole scene.
  18. Thanks. I'm not very observant. I read most of it this morning. I have to agree with Mike on the TMI; I started feeling a bit like a peeping Tom. (Does anyone still use that expression?) I an sure something that intensely personal must have been really difficult to write.
  19. Is this story available anywhere? I really want to read it (even though it'll drive me batshit crazy that it isn't [apparently] complete).
  20. I had to look it up. It's an idiom I hadn't managed to encounter in the almost 30 years I've been in this country. Found this one, too.
  21. Well, for one thing, is there a real dog involved?
  22. I feel like I may be missing something in this conversation.

    Chapter 3

Oh, poor Ross! I hope he figures out a way to moderate his responses. I'm counting on Clarissa to figure it out when she talks to Deon and Kevin at the game. I think Kevin's definitely curious...especially after all that "wondering" he did in the last chapter. Looking forward to seeing more of Warwick! And, I'm with Tim, the pre-draft shenanigans around the brat are going to be hilarious. And very frustrating for all concerned.
  24. Hi Brian, I might be able to help out depending on the volume of work and timeline. Also, I've never edited or beta read fiction, although I do review technical documents at work.
