Awoken to tousled hair, sleepy eyes,
Enveloped in familiarity.
This moment: all of the world’s tragedy,
Beyond the reach of rational minds, lies.
Pink lips fluttering across gentle sighs,
Absent-minded vulnerability,
Baffling to me, is such reality
Could from minimal effort birth and rise.
Awoken twice to darkness without end.
A cold draft plunders: rude and abrasive.
Eyes pinch shut: a desperate call for sand
To generously trickle, fill and give
Me another ch
I threw out milk today. I haven’t had to do that for a long time. I like to bake, you see, and sometimes, I need milk. But, at the same time, I’m lactose intolerant. So you see my conundrum now.
I hadn’t realised that he’d begun to drink the milk I couldn’t manage to use in time. I hadn’t realised that he won’t be here to drink the milk anymore.
It expired today, the milk. We expired three weeks ago.
Your lips tasted sweet on mine: dry and cracked:
The fissures running through my self-esteem,
Nourishing the thirsty, fallen and wrecked,
Evoking emotions: a foreign dream.
Darkness stretched beyond the vast horizons
And unrestrained into the wayward past
Whence a glimmer of your crooked smile burns
Through its unrelenting hold: turned to dust.
I once feared small places, suffocating
Spaces full of air quiet, still and stale
But your arms: a prison I stay willing,

thank you for the review i'll keep the advice in mind, though a 4-lined sentence might be a challenge for me. i prefer succinct sentences. sometimes brevity facilitates the emotional punch.
I remember a moment of pure bliss
Too many novels were written about;
Void of the darkness of later crises:
Encroaching on future horizons: doubt.
The dusk light reflected in golden rings
Around the portal to your open mind.
Then, I was ignorant my cruel sins
In time, would scar and leave them closed behind.
Hours accrued to days, those spent in each
Other’s warmth: basking in all that we share.
Then, I knew not: years later I would reach
Across an empty bed and touch cold air.
Thank you for the review! Oh I just misunderstood because you mentioned that greek poetry used 12-syllable lines and I assumed it was permissible to use 10 or 12 syllables. It's entirely an oversight. But thank you for the challenge, it was a great fun.
Stranger, could you have left any more scars?
How quietly you stole into my heart
And robbed me blind of all these precious things
I did not know I still possessed these days.
You whispered empty promises I’ve heard
Too many times before, yet I never
Learn that sweet words burn harsh on their way up.
I lie awake picking at the stitches
That holds together someone I don’t know.
When did they fall, these walls I built so high?
Tender buds spring forth with vigour, admirable.
Young love, charged, electric, strong words too quickly form.
But transient is infatuation, fallible.
March flurries bury the hasty: it’s a cold storm.
I wasn’t looking,
When our eyes met
Across a dark room.
I swore
I would never build
Dreams in another
Man’s kiss,
Or carve out futures
In their
Fleeting embrace.
But your words
So sweet
And touch
Inflaming.
Ocean water
To a
Parched
Shipwrecked sailor.
Your hold
Firm and touch
Reassuring
And so I built
These
Expectations
Upon foundations
I did not know
Would dissipate.
Your breath
Sweet and lips
Comforting
And so I held
You to
Promises
Made in a drunke
Same old demons,
Different night.
Cold sweat,
Thrusting among sheets.
Quiet horrors,
Nightmarish dreams.
Reality’s seams
Unravel.
Lonesome struggles
Against shapeless figures
Of your own
Twisted mind.
Perhaps strong arms
Wake you
To live another day,
But be warned,
They slink in the slivers
Of your mind the light
Doesn’t touch,
Only to emerge
Another night.
Latex gloves snapped on: its overwhelming odour filled my nostrils. I picked up the blade and with a steady pressure, watched as the layers of flesh peel apart. Despite the morbidity, I never failed to notice how uncannily similar it felt to a kitchen knife running through a pork shoulder. Blood oozed from the laceration, viscous and vivid: the ruby droplets gathering in the freshly opened gash. Latex squelched against flesh as my hands pushed into the cavity.

hahaha thank you so much for the high praise. it was an attempt. meter is too rigid for my tastes. it was really fun to write this though, stretch out those muscles i've never noticed how completely instinctive the stresses go in my speech, it's really hard to figure out where the accent falls.
Fire warms the lonesome warrior
Memories marred by chilling silence.
Empty tables empty platters
Promises no more kept by corpses.
Sugar sours, bitter lingers.
Favourites haunted, ghosts of mistakes
Past, fatigue devours courage.
Emptiness feeds on damaged people.
I wished I’d started ballet when I was seven, when I decided I would never fit in. I wished I’d started ballet when I was ten, when I decided I would never be athletic. I wished I’d started ballet when I was twelve, when I decided systematically shutting down when other kids picked on my flaws was not going to cut it anymore. I wished I’d started ballet when I was fourteen, when I was starting to believe that maybe life could get better. I wished I’d started ballet when I was sixteen, when I dec
