  1. I have realized I am breaking one of my big rules. Explaining out of text what should be explained in the book. Thank you for the reminder to do better.
  2. I was debating if I should write a scene with Darius and the assassination... I haven't yet. Just to close that loop. Darius I also need to show, Works at GS&P but he is also Merrick's right hand... it's a bit murky and could do with a bit of clarification. (It's still a bit WIP as I am cleaning up some plot holes at the moment)
  3. Good men can still break the law if they're frightened. To Will, Andrew's carrying a gun because of the Northern Cross. After all they did to him in the Valley, it is logical for Will to assume this. And yes carrying a handgun without special permission would be a career ender, Will has to be wondering at the risk he thinks Andrew is taking. But again, Will saw what Denton did to Jason, the fear that sent Peter to live with him. I don't think it's that much of a stretch for Will to believe Andrew is traumatized afterwards.
  4. This book also gives me a chance to show how formidable Robert Avery is, he knows what Gable is doing. He can see the net, and teaching Will to spot it will help Will later in his life when he enters politics. Avery is no fool, and Gable as well as Merrick, underestimate him at their own peril.
  5. The implication is Robert Gable orchestrated something to force Avery to hire his firm in a crisis. Torys LLP collapsing was the perfect catalyst for GS&P to show it's the right solution to Avery Woods problems.
  6. Except Will doesn't know that. So this is his perpective, the gun is there, guns are illegal, ergo Andrew is breaking the law. The idea that Andrew is CSIS would never even enter his head.
  7. We knew what Andrew has to do will eventually conflict with what he wants. Will is too honest to handle the truth of Andrew's world, and they simply aren't at a point where they've reached an understanding. We know they do get there, just takes a couple more years. It should be noted that handguns were illegal in Canada at the time. The fact that Andrew has one, Will's perception of it would be that Andrew is breaking the law in owning it. He's wrong, but given that he only has what he can see to go on, he's leaping to conclusions.
  8. Andrew Highmore, Junior Associate, GS&P Dug out an old image I had on file.
  9. The email arrived at 6:47 AM on a Tuesday morning, and by 6:48, the Toronto legal world had been turned upside down. Will Carter read it standing in his kitchen, coffee mug halfway to his lips, his laptop glowing in the grey pre-dawn light. The subject line was innocuous— Urgent: Torys LLP—Administration Notice or Emergency: Client Update—Torys LLP—but the body was a bomb wrapped in corporate legalese. Effective immediately, Torys LLP has voluntarily entered administration following

    Chapter 1

It's nothing bad, Just a stubborn pair of chapters that I reread and realized didn't work, didn't serve the plot and slowed everything down. So I reworked them into two chapters that did... just getting Will's temper right took some doing. He so rarely gets furious I needed a long time to try things till I got him the way I like him.

    Chapter 1

  14. The resonance chamber hummed with the sound of something waking up. Flynn sat in the chair—the throne, the trap, the thing Frank had died warning him about—and felt the copper coils beneath the concrete floor begin to pulse. The runes carved into the walls flickered from dormant grey to hungry amber, one by one, in a sequence that looked almost organic. Like veins filling with blood. Like a heart beginning to beat. He couldn't move. The sedatives Dr. Varma had pushed into his arm wer

    Chapter 1

Another of my Thursday Shorts I need a palate cleanser after a particularly stubborn day of wrestling with difficult chapters of the Carter book. Something simple, silly, and nice.
  16. Two high school enemies—a lanky anxious nerd and a brooding bully—end up stuck together working the closing shift at a dead-end grocery store. As summer bleeds away and college looms, they discover the social hierarchy means nothing when you're both scraping gum off linoleum. But when a rainstorm strands them at the bully's rundown apartment, Chad discovers Jake's deepest secret: he's a massive closet geek with a decade of hidden longing. What starts as reluctant friendship becomes something far more complicated—and far more real—than either expected.

    Chapter 1

The summer air in the grocery store always felt synthetic, a canned, frigid breeze that did nothing to cut the oppressive, heavy heat waiting just beyond the automatic sliding doors. Chad Boudreau stood at the end of register four, staring blankly as a conveyor belt of canned beans, generic pasta, and discounted cat food rolled toward him. He felt, as he often did, like a collection of spare parts haphazardly glued together. He was all elbows and knees, a gangling polecat of a teenager who had s

    Chapter 15

I mean this one is a bit more... raunchy, than I usually go, so that's a bonus It's a lot of "Hardness, friction and rubbing"
  19. That's the idea, what Merrick wants, why Tanaka is so intent to stop it, and why Andrew is there. The next chapter goes into the lengths the three players will go to, Gable, Merrick, and Tanaka to deal with this.

    Chapter 15

um, it's about as detailed as I get I fear. I am not that... um... explicit.
  21. This book has A LOT going on, I admit, I found it hard to balance every plot point at times. I do think it runs a little long on the Jason plot in places, and the Will/Andrew will they won't that can dance a little on a loop. Funny I am rewriting several chapters from this point onwards to tighten things up. Merrick will get his turn, he's got a chapter of his own coming up.

    Chapter 15

15 The sound was wet, rhythmic, and deeply, viscerally disturbing. It was a slow, tearing schhhk-rip followed by a heavy, satisfied snorting noise. Andy Cooper, formerly the Scourge of the Carpathians and currently a deeply exhausted suburban boyfriend, slowly opened his eyes in the dimly lit confines of the garage. For a fraction of a second, his three-hundred-year-old brain struggled to parse his surroundings. He was lying on the narrow, canvas camping cot Art Cooper had provi
