It's not a pleasant thing for him, and only drives home the horror of his immortal existence. He will never die, but he will still experience death ad nauseum... and those around him will die, like Tyler. Only Charlie in the little group, is immortal for different reasons. Well... not immortal, just Post-Human.

Simon, I have him working for the Ministry of the Occult in later books, he's one of the few people out of the squad that actually understands the Demon bureaucracy, the Angelic Litigious nature, and the ministry rules... heck he's even more adept at it that poor old Taine is. Matt however... he takes a bit to find himself a job he's good at... and an unexpected mentor who grudgingly likes him.

Oh yeah, Matt and Matty's mum are clueless... Poor Simon, separating his mash potatoes and vegetables from a Shepard's pie, and trying to be polite. While Matt loads his veggies off onto Simon's plate and nicks the uneaten gravy covered meat. Realizing those two are the ideal boyfriends.... they just take care of each other.

Thunderbolt is REALLY important in both this and the next book. One of the few Destriers to survive what is to come, and carries one of the Crusader Kings into the victory of Antioch. A character unto his own right. And this picture is lovely.

We all know by now that Wylan owns half of Darien's stuff by now (Hell Val is probably laughing her arse off about that fact nightly) His owning the other half is only fair. the magic in these books is very subtle by it's nature. This crusade was full of weird. Earthquakes out of nowhere, aurora's in the sky, comets, and literal meteor's raining down on camps. To the superstitious it looked like miracles, or Sorcerer's doing battle. Fever, starvation and imagination did the rest

i think Lord Haskal would have told him, While Radoslav is vain, blind to things, and generally a bit of a knob, Haskal is not, he raised Darien, is Julian's knight and knows what happened.

Simon is top dog, Matt gets to be a prison wife to said top dog, and Lynix is highly amused. Matt continues to be a great boyfriend to Simon, I do enjoy their dynamic... it's joyful.
