Now Darien, Wylan et all bounce around horses, this is deliberate, Horses were cycled on rides like this, keeping one fresh at all times. (At least this early in the campaign)

West and Will are a complicated pair to write. They have such different experiences with the Major. Which is why West speaks to Jacob and the boys about Grandpa Carter differently than any of the others. I tend to assume the message was the watch, and the regret that comes when you need to say you're sorry to someone but you know you will never get the chance. Will and his father aren't in that place, Will is still very haunted by the Major, and there is a moment, later in this book where that is addressed, and it's Jacob that really addresses it. You'll see Jacob is a warrior, Will assumes he gets it from Andrew, but Jacob is Will's son as well, and the warrior in him is just as much his.

I've said it a few times, but this book is Tommy and Peter's. They're amazing in it.

he is also a Magi. As far as God goes, he's playing with a different deck. My magic system is.... It's rare, Wylan is raw untrained power, Ishan is highly trained but dealing with a lot of other issues, there are a set of Triplet Egyptian Witches who are VERY confused why their seduction magic doesn't work on Darien... and the byzantine Official. i am limiting the Magi to one or two per empire... and keeping it Very very abstract. This way it doesn't overpower the actual historical action.

Yep, if Taine dies, he gets his eternal reward in an insufferable gooey embrace with :: Ellis makes an ick sound :: Saint Michael of the booty shorts. If he dies and goes to hell, Saint Michael will kick the door down, to find Taine boring the hell out of all the demons down there.... nope not happening. It's not a pleasant thing for him, and only drives home the horror of his immortal existence. He will never die, but he will still experience death ad nauseum... and those around him will die, like Tyler. Only Charlie in the little group, is immortal for different reasons. Well... not immortal, just Post-Human.

Simon, I have him working for the Ministry of the Occult in later books, he's one of the few people out of the squad that actually understands the Demon bureaucracy, the Angelic Litigious nature, and the ministry rules... heck he's even more adept at it that poor old Taine is. Matt however... he takes a bit to find himself a job he's good at... and an unexpected mentor who grudgingly likes him.

Oh yeah, Matt and Matty's mum are clueless... Poor Simon, separating his mash potatoes and vegetables from a Shepard's pie, and trying to be polite. While Matt loads his veggies off onto Simon's plate and nicks the uneaten gravy covered meat. Realizing those two are the ideal boyfriends.... they just take care of each other.
