    Chapter 2

Act III: The Frankenstein Enigma Grady’s Repair Garage sat on the outskirts of Merrickville like a fortress of rusted iron and spilled oil. It was a sprawling, chaotic acreage of corrugated metal buildings and a "back forty" that was essentially an elephant’s graveyard for the automotive industry. The air here didn’t just carry the scent of summer; it was thick with the coppery tang of welding sparks, the sweet rot of old upholstery, and the omnipresent, heavy musk of 80-weight gear oil—th

    Chapter 29

I do like that this is Peter, Tommy and Yani's book, our softer characters demonstrating that they can be strong and heroes too.

    Chapter 29

He doesn't care about them, again a key plot point.

    Chapter 29

This actually happened in WW2, a plot to assassinate Winston Churchill failed because the German spies stood out like a sore thumb to the locals. they were reported and the whole lot were captured.

    Chapter 29

Uncle Peter will save them, Uncle Peter's a Badass now! (Please note any resemblance to a badass is purely in Peter's head and will in no way actually save anyone)

  9. CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE: THE TRUTH Location: The Oval Office, The White House, Washington D.C. Time: July 31, 2024. 20:00 EDT. Status: The Twilight of a Presidency. The Oval Office was quiet, save for the rhythmic, accusatory ticking of the grandfather clock and the distant, muffled hum of a capital city in crisis. Outside the bulletproof windows, the Rose Garden was bathed in the heavy, humid darkness of a D.C. summer, the scent of damp earth and spent blossoms creeping in through the fl

    Chapter 15

It is amazing when we look back and think about what was considered acceptable twenty years ago and when it very much wasn't. Brody is a problematic character in the modern day, he was a product of his era. I don't think he was trying to hurt Will... with Will spiralling he may have thought he was helping. We know better now.

    Prologue

We've all had at least one of these kind of breakups.

    Chapter 1

This is before he becomes our Dark Sovereign. Heck this is before he marries Will, or even before he starts at his law firm GS&P. He's still very much a kid himself. Jason's Foster Guardian, and still figuring out who he is outside of his relationship.

He got Andrew off the couch, that's a start.

    Chapter 4

This is the tragedy of mental illness, it defies rationality because it is, by it's definition, irrational. Something that seems obvious doesn't occour when the brain is malfunctioning. Will is not well, he doesn't realize it, and it is compounding the problem.

    Chapter 1

Andrew needs something to bring him back. And I like the Jason/Peter thing, they're spikey but starting to see there's more to each other than they anticipated. They bicker, bite at each other, and feel more real as that pre-something something couple

    Prologue

Andrew needs a reason to get up, Peter needs a reason to go on, and Jason needs a reason to heal. Like my last Merrickville book, each character gives reasons to the others.

    Prologue

For those that are interested, it's set in 2001, ten days after the ending of Carter's Shadow, and less than a week after Carter's Duty. It is not necessary to read those books to understand this one, it is designed to stand on it's own

    Chapter 1

For Andrew' there's only one type of car. for those interested, the MULE prototype here was when they were testing the 2005GT, it's a pile of junk at the moment, but you know what it will become.

    Prologue

It's interesting to write Andrew at this point, and Peter. I've long wondered at the missing years. And putting these three (who we knew were the left overs at the time) together in the same house, looking after each other. Three broken boys, each suffering, having to rely upon each other. It sets a tone.

    Chapter 1

**Act II: The Gravity of Soil and Steel** The second week in Brody’s house began with the rattling hiss of a lawnmower in the distance and the smell of strong, burnt coffee. Peter McCormick was awake before the sun had fully cleared the treeline, his internal clock still tuned to the frantic, early-morning anxieties of a boy whose world had recently imploded. He lay in the grey pre-dawn light, listening. The sound of Jason’s breathing from the other bed was a quiet, uneven rhythm. It
  24. Andrew Highmore's world has shattered. His boyfriend is gone, a traumatized teen is hiding in his guest room, and a violent threat from his past is circling his home. To protect his makeshift family, the gentle law student must become the ruthless strategist his father once was, forging a dangerous alliance to dismantle an empire of hate—one bolt and one secret at a time.

    Prologue

Act I: The House of Hissing Shadows The silence in Brody’s house wasn't peaceful; it was a sentient, malevolent entity. Peter McCormick felt it the moment his key clicked in the lock—a dense, watchful hush that swallowed the sound of the summer street behind him. It didn’t hang in the corners of the vaulted living room; it lurked there, coiled and waiting. It was the kind of silence that followed a scream, that lingered in a hospital corridor after bad news had been delivered. It made the fi
