I do like that this is Peter, Tommy and Yani's book, our softer characters demonstrating that they can be strong and heroes too.

This actually happened in WW2, a plot to assassinate Winston Churchill failed because the German spies stood out like a sore thumb to the locals. they were reported and the whole lot were captured.

It is amazing when we look back and think about what was considered acceptable twenty years ago and when it very much wasn't. Brody is a problematic character in the modern day, he was a product of his era. I don't think he was trying to hurt Will... with Will spiralling he may have thought he was helping. We know better now.

This is the tragedy of mental illness, it defies rationality because it is, by it's definition, irrational. Something that seems obvious doesn't occour when the brain is malfunctioning. Will is not well, he doesn't realize it, and it is compounding the problem.

Andrew needs something to bring him back. And I like the Jason/Peter thing, they're spikey but starting to see there's more to each other than they anticipated. They bicker, bite at each other, and feel more real as that pre-something something couple

Andrew needs a reason to get up, Peter needs a reason to go on, and Jason needs a reason to heal. Like my last Merrickville book, each character gives reasons to the others.

For Andrew' there's only one type of car. for those interested, the MULE prototype here was when they were testing the 2005GT, it's a pile of junk at the moment, but you know what it will become.

It's interesting to write Andrew at this point, and Peter. I've long wondered at the missing years. And putting these three (who we knew were the left overs at the time) together in the same house, looking after each other. Three broken boys, each suffering, having to rely upon each other. It sets a tone.
