The Witches plan was probably either execute Ishan, or keep him as a hostage (more likely) They were not expecting the walls to fall so quickly. And certainly they weren't expecting Wylan to body them with a group of squires. Their plans collapsed half finished, and Erik stumbles out of the ash. As good as Erik is for Seb, Seb is giving Erik a purpose and a reason to survive.

Ishan's marital education is a subject in this book. He was trained by masters from across the Seljuk Empire, even as far as China Wusong. We saw glimpses of this in the past books, when he fought the Hassassin that killed his father, and when he fought the three squires while blind. He taught Ashot how to use a sword in the way that makes Ashot deadly with his sword, and later is taught to both Atreus and Rico. (The Path of Water) The only problem is, Ishan's fighting style is HIGHLY distinctive to those with a trained eye. Like a finger print, or a glowing neon sign.

I know mine did at that age, did most of my thinking... boy did I end up in trouble. -
This does have a very wasteland wanderer feel to it. And I suppose, to the people that lived through it, the Crusade must have seemed like the end times to both sides. Ruin, scavengers, death and carnage, and it would be like this for another 100-200 years, as wave after wave of invaders swept across the land all in the name of their chosen rite.

Erik and Seb have a long road, I will create a map of their journey as opposed to Darien's route. To give a better idea of what is happening.

Magic, in this one, is slippery. Remember Wylan's is fueled by instinct and emotion. Ishan's was meticulously learned (think Wylan's as socery, and Ishan's as Wizardry) As Erik has been closed off from his memories by the Witches spell, he is locked away from his magic as well. This is probably a good thing in the short term, Ishan was burning himself out from overusing his magic. One of the unintended benefits of all of this, it is finally forcing Ishan to heal after Antioch.

I wrote the bridging prologue a two days ago. It wasn't a part of the original book. I wrote it more for people who read the whole series, as opposed to people picking up the book. I debated if I was going to include it for a while, and I will update the ebook with the prologue as it does work. I just haven't had a chance yet
