    TV Chapter 24

When the media got hold of the news that there was a new road project happening in remote Western Australia and the Northern Territory, it didn’t take them long to learn that our family had a large investment in the project. What caught me by surprise when this did reach the media, was that the Western Australian Government had negotiated with the Federal Government to expand the project to seal from the Buntine Highway and Duncan Road Junction, for an additional 12 kilometres to the Northern Te

As well as the building projects that we have been working on, I also have been working on expanding the facilities at the Stock Quarantine Station, so now that the WA Agriculture Department Quarantine yards on the outskirts of town on Drovers Road, are no longer required, and they were permanently closed, with work begun to demolish all the yarding and sheds that are located there. I was looking at other possible options for investment in the district and during our monthly management meet

    TV Chapter 22

“That is not what I wanted to hear,” I commented, as the radio programme returned to playing music, just as my mobile rang, and the caller ID was Mum. “Hello dear, I am just checking in that you are all ok, as I have just heard the latest update,” Mums aid when I answered the call. “Yes, we are fine, I have Jessica, Jake, the Colonel and 11 other soldiers all bunkered down here as well. We should be ok, although this will be the first real test of how strong we built this compound, and I have fa
  10. On return to Hobart, we take a trip up to the peak of Mt Wellington, and we checked out all six viewing towers, which provide us with a spectacular view of Hobart, the River Derwent and the mountains. As we were heading back to the car park where the bus is parked, a man started storming towards us, and I saw in the corner of my eye a woman moving away, just as I saw Eric and Anita come rushing towards us, and it was at that point I saw hidden underneath their jackets guns in holsters. Yes, a few minor ones, in Darwin during 96/97 cyclone season. Both started in the Gulf of Carpentaria, and first one was Cat 2 and went between Darwin and the town of Katherine, 300 kms to the south, which closed all major roads and highways in all directions. Second one was on the exact same track as Cyclone Tracey, Christmas Day 1974, and this one stopped at the north west corner of the Tiwi Islands just like Tracey did, before Tracey turned and went straight for and destroyed Darwin, thankfully, this one in 96, which was also just before Christmas, kept going south west towards WA, but still scared the hell out of everyone, and eventually made landfall at Port Hedland as Cat 1. I headed back to WA in August that following year, no more cyclones for me thanks.

“Clear the vehicles, some of them are heading this way,” I called out, and quickly the three vehicles were relocated from the open space, to make room for a landing area for the soldiers. One of the first to land had the rank of Lt Colonel, as he gathered up his parachute, and disengaged from the harness, before looking around and seeing us gathered, and automatically I snapped to attention. “Sir, welcome back to Corunna Base and your training camp,” I said to the Colonel, “At ease, Mr Kend

https://www.aptouring.com.au/trips/australia/tas/rtlh6/sep2023-aug2024 I did a similar coach tour of Tasmania years ago, but on western side and for eight days. Spectacular way to see a wonderful place like Tasmania. True story about the Port Arthur massacre, i was in Darwin when it happened, and it was a big shock for everyone.

  19. The trip down to Tasmania was fairly uneventful, with a one-hour flight down to Sydney and a two-hour layover and a 1 ¾ hour flight to Launceston, which was fairly relaxing, because we had Business Class tickets for the whole trip, which would take over five hours, leaving at 7.30 am. Once we had collected all of our checked-in luggage, we headed to the Car hire desk, where Dad had arranged for a car for the two days that we would be staying in Launceston to have a look around the region. TV Chapter 20

“Damn, it has intensified and is moving faster, we are going to have to get cracking with preparations,” Marcus commented. For the rest of the day, we concentrated on making sure that the compound was secure, with tools in the workshop, I made sure that all roofing was properly secure, and with the assistance of the borrowed front-end loader, from the neighbouring station, I placed the leftover lengths of railway iron on the roof, before securing it down, to keep it all in place. When I exp

Over at Lakeside Park, the apartments over the commercial space on each of the four blocks would be leased out for long-term residents, while the commercial space already has an interest in establishing new businesses, including a café, a hairdresser, and even a GP Medical Clinic, who requested to adjoining business units with a door to link them together, and the shopping centre with the supermarket and restaurant is close to completion, including having plenty of parking space for customers at

  25. “Do you have any other interesting experiences that you could tell us about, in both languages please?” the teacher asked me, and nodding my head, I began to explain some of the amazing things I have had the chance to see and do, including experiencing a tour of a wildlife reserve, to see African animals in their natural environment. After that class, I suddenly had a lot of people wanting to know a lot more about my life overseas, and I was not particularly keen to talk about it in detail,
