Wait and see…. More drama coming up soon.

Over the next two days, we travelled north to Katherine, stopping at Daly Waters overnight, which is also the junction of the Carpentaria Highway that heads East to northern Queensland. After a three-hour journey, we arrived in Katherine, and we stopped for a moment to watch the Ghan Train passed by slowly, which was an interesting sight to see, as it continues its three-day journey south from Darwin to Adelaide. After refuelling, emptying the sewage tank and filling the water tanks, and buying

Less than a kilometre down the track, we saw signs, and we stopped, and taking the torches with us to see, we all climbed out to look around, mainly to find a place where we would set up camp. “Down here, there is a creek, with a little bit of water in it,” one of the boys called out. After a bit of a look around, we saw in the distance to the south of the site, a water tank, windmill and yards, so we drove down and had a look there, and after some discussion, we up camp for the night. Life for me and my two siblings was constantly changing, only because both of our parents work for the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. My sister - Helena Sue is four years older, and my brother – Kerwin Darius is four years younger than me and I was the only one born in a different country. Helena was born in Fremantle - Western Australia, as Mum took six months off work, I was born in Auckland - New Zealand, where Mum had one month of light duties leading up to when I

RFDS - Royal Flying Ducks Service... Just kidding it is Doctor Service... lol. Airfield is often further away from the station airstrip and yes in an area where it is less prone to weather damage, and often fenced off to keep stock out too.
-
Yes, some even have two airfields, one for station use, the other for the RFDS, which has to be kept at a high standard of good repair. Because of the remoteness of a majority of sheep and cattle stations, airfields are in regularly used for air mustering, as well as mail and basic supplies deliveries, especially during the ‘Wet season’ when access roads are shut down.
-
When we arrived there, about two hours later than planned, due to having two tyre punctures, we saw that the station has a well laid out caravan park, and we booked in for one night and were shown where to set up our camp for our stay. We stayed at our camp that evening, deciding to explore a little before we leave in the morning, and a few people passed by our camp to look at the bus, but we remained inside, with the door closed, so as not to be disturbed by anyone. In the middle of the ni

Thankfully, i was 1,330 kilometres to the South-south west of where it crossed the coast… Western Australia is the largest state in the country, 1,580 kms wide & 2,185 kilometres long and 2.646 million sq kms in area.

“Elisa to Alby, is there anything else? What is the problem exactly, over,” Elisa asked, “We may have a Red Tick Fever outbreak on the station, Marcus and Jexon are going to get some urine and blood samples to confirm their diagnosis, but we will need the portable yards out here asap,” Alby replied. “Right, I will get Dave, Gloria, Norm and Mike to get onto it right away, anything else?” Elisa asked. Marcus grabbed the radio mike again. “Elisa, can you please telephone the vets at Boulia an

“We have spent a few months travelling and working in the UK, getting some experience in different fields of Veterinary practice, including at horse studs and several Zoo parks,” I said. “Well, you are experienced in many areas, and I hear that you have a pilot's license too, Jexon?” James said in response, “Not just him, all three partners have commercial pilot’s licenses, and we currently have two aircraft based in Kununurra for our Pastoral Station work, Marcus informed James. “We did ha

“Thank you, sir. That is much appreciated, we didn’t think we would have this much trouble when we purchased the Double Decker in Tamborine,” Marcus responded. “Yes, well it is certainly an eye-catching vehicle, with all the graphics on it,” the officer said. “Can you let your colleagues know that we will be stopping overnight in Tambo, as we prefer to take this journey at a steady pace, as we have no rush to get home,” I said to the officer, and I offered to give him a tour of our bus and the t

Your welcome, and thanks.

“Yes, Bill and Grace, and I know all about the Double Decker. You are welcome to park where you are for the night, and feel free to enjoy a meal and a drink or two,” the lady said. “Well, that is a much better reception than what we received down the road,” I commented, “Do you mean the Thunder Park? They are a bunch of idiots to reject you, plus they are new to the region, so I doubt if they will survive in business for long if that is their attitude,” the lady said to us, which cheered me up.

Yep, happens all the time, truck drivers ignoring height warning signs.

We did not have that much time to get fully organised. Marc and I decided that we would only take our portable Vet bags, which have all the required necessary equipment and supplies, without any of the drugs, and we would purchase new sets of overalls, gumboots, gloves, shield masks and breathing masks, before leaving. We also spend a half day buying new work clothes for the boys, including slip-on steel cap boots, chequered shirts and felt hats, so they will fit into the surroundings of th

I laid out the idea of Ryley and Langley joining my brother Wyatt and three youngest cousins in attending boarding school in Geraldton, where they would come home on school holidays, with it currently the midyear holidays, which end in a few days, or the boys can stay at home and do their schooling at home by correspondence, and join some junior sports clubs to have social interaction with other kids. In the end, it was decided that the boys would be home-schooled for the remainder of the y

Inverway and Riveren Stations would remain with the family, where Uncle Owen is based, as well as Newry Station near the State & Territory border, which is now Mum’s home base, and Marcus and I will be keeping Diggers Rest in WA, while the remaining three stations, all in the Victoria River district, would be sold, which is a total of 2.47 million acres, leaving us with 2.22 million acres, plus we would be retaining the WW2 Airbase, which is now a permanent training base for the Australian D

After about ten minutes of further discussion, we ended the call, and we sat in silence in the dining room for a while to absorb everything that was said during the call. “Your family sounds nice,” Julia said to me breaking the silence, “yes, they are all great, and that is not all of them, we also have Uncle Owen, who is Mum’s brother, who is in partnership with Mum with running several Cattle stations in the western Northern Territory and the northeastern Kimberly region in Western Australia.
