After checking the last area that the homeless tend to gather during the late afternoon and early evening, we were about to head back to the Project, when a lonely figure caught my attention, crouching over something laying on the ground. “Stop, over there, head to your left, I see something on the street corner!” Scott called out from the passenger seat of my vehicle, before grabbing the two-way radio mike, “Prado to Tarago, over” Scott said into the mic, “This is Charles, over,” came th

With Charles taking the lead in the Tarago, the automatic door opened just as we turned into the driveway, and this is when I noticed a red car parked on the side of the street, as I followed Charles in my vehicle, and I saw Greg step out of his vehicle as I drove up the drive an into the garage. “I will be with you guys in a moment,” I said to Charles and Scott, as they climbed out of the Tarago and headed for the side door for inside, while headed down the drive towards Greg, and I stopped

Yes, and I had already written that bit for the following chapter, before posting chapter seven...

“Very well, continue please Hunter,” Mr Grantley said from beside me, as Scott quietly opened the doorway in the pantry, and tapped on my shoulder, to indicate that it is open, “Ok, first four trustees, hold out your left arm, and a team member will grab hold and direct you from there,” I stated, and I grabbed hold of Mr Grantley’s arm and gently led him through into the pantry. “Ok, we are passing through a narrow door, then turning left immediately, and two steps before we start to go do

Jonah led us into the entry hall of the lower level of the main warehouse, and both Charles and Scott were still speechless about where they were, somewhere underground. “So, where the dickens, are we now?” Scott asked us after I had arrived in the hall and closed the door behind me. “We are in the lower ground floor of the warehouse, of course,” Jonah said with a straight face, and both of them looked at Nathan and me to see if this was indeed true, and I just smiled and nodded my head, y

“As I said earlier, we meet regularly to discuss projects that we can assist with financially, and we have come to a decision, that we would like to financially support you with operational costs, we are thinking somewhere along the $20,000 a quarter mark, but we as sponsors, would need to inspect the facilities that you have, and come up with some sort of agreement, with how the place is managed,” Mr Grantley stated. “Like a Board of Trustees?” I asked, “Exactly like that Hunter, just so

Once we had everything stored away, Mrs Hill asked Mum to join her, as they drive the car to a multi-storey carpark on Paradise Road, which is just over a kilometre away so that the car doesn’t get flooded, and they returned about half an hour later via taxi cab, and instead of trying to climb over the barriers, they took the stairs at the front up to the 1st level garden, and through the door into the garden lounge, which is now the only way to get into the house, as we had finished double sand

“I think we need to think about that seriously, as we don’t want you to get behind” I replied, “Ok” Jonah responded, and he led the way back downstairs, and we made our way into the atrium area. “So, what are we going to do with all of the other space in this warehouse?” Nathan asked me, “That’s where we need to do some brainstorming my friend, but I have a few ideas, as you can already see we have indoor tennis and basketball courts already” I replied. Just before lunchtime, the pond was fu

“Ok, but I insist that for their first visit, they be blindfolded, before being driven here, and to remain that way until they are inside the warehouse,” I said to Nathan, who happily agreed, and said he would see us bright and early in the morning. I explained to Jonah, that for the whole weekend that we would be having two other friends, as well as Charles, Scott and Uncle Nathan, and that for part of the time, Jonah would have to stay somewhere out of the way, while all of the heavy wo

When we arrived at the house, it was still dark outside, but the front porch light was on, so I knew that Mrs Hill was awake, and probably making breakfast for everyone. Once the cabs had gone, with a huge pile of luggage at the doorstep, I unlocked the front door, and ushered our mum and my sister inside, while Aiden and I brought all the luggage into the hallway. Mrs Hill was soon on the scene, and warmly welcomed everyone, and lead the ladies down to the kitchen, while we brought the lug

Back at the Porter’s home, we just relaxed and I let Jonah watch as much television as he wished, and during the day he drifted off to sleep for short periods, which we let him do, as Mrs Porter kept busy making sure that we were both well looked after. In the late afternoon, with Nathan joining us, we headed over to the nearest Kmart store, where we bought a set of new clothes and shoes for Jonah, as the clothes that we found him in were very worn out with lots of patches on them.

We kept the outside hatch closed since we hadn’t built the chicken run yet, which was out next project. Using some timber posts, we already have, we put into place a row of posts, that are 5 metres apart, from the floor to 3.5-metres high, for a fence, to keep the chooks in, and out of the vegetable garden. Once completed, we spread out some more hay, we opened the outside hatch of the chook hutch, and the bantams came out to explore their new surroundings, which is quite roomy. We
