  1. They do have a root cellar, but it is built into a hillside on the other side of the crick, just below the big pen, not under the cabin. A back door sure would have come in handy, and they were just about to put one in. Lucas was going to do some explaining, and we can all suspect it would have been illuminating, but now it is up in the air whether he will ever get that chance again. Blood loss is a life taker, and it would seem Luca has lost quite a bit. I think we see in this chapter just how resourceful Jubal is, though. He did some damn quick thinking, and the fact is he is completely in love with Lucas. This has got to be killing him... staying rational when all he wants to do is scream and cry.
  2. Thank you for your condolences, Doc. She's buried now, in her favorite hanging out spot. I am so sad, but there is peace there too. She really was my heart, the one I looked forward to seeing every morning. She'd answer "Hi, pretty girl" with a whinny almost every time. The paddock is huge, but it seems even bigger today... nothing but empty space. I'm proud of this chapter, though I hurried its posting today. The whole story has so far been a slow build up to this one, and I hope everyone felt what I felt when I was writing it. Yes... a rollercoaster.
  3. Thanks for the support, my friends. I posted the chapter without a final read through while I waited on equipment for the burial... so it wasn't late like I thought it would be. Hopefully it was mistake free.
  4. I envy you.
  5. Thanks, Albert.
  6. Thank you, Man.
  7. Thank you, spyke.
  8. Got my chapter posted without a final edit, but that's another load off my mind. Sky is being buried this afternoon on my property... the equipment should be here in about an hour, so I am a constant mess as I wait. Happy Birthday, Albert! Lots of love from me.
  9. Calamity Sheriff Barnes didn’t stay for supper, nor for much more conversation—seeming a mite like a colt once it’s been subdued—when he and Lucas returned from their tour of the new cabin. Neither man looked angry, though, and Jubal was thankful for such. That they were friends was plain, so whatever was going on between them needed settling, and he hoped it had. If it be about him, it was up to Lucas to tell him so. “You did some fine work, Jubal, some really fine work,
  10. To my Bearpaw readers, I will do my best to get my next chapter out today, but I lost my mare... my last horse... at 11:20 Sunday night, and I am devastated. I was with her at the time, and spend the last three days in torture and worry for her. I could post the chapter as is, but I'd like to go through it at least once before I do... thanks for your patience, if it is needed. It will be a very busy day for me tomorrow.
  11. I have lived through three days of the most horrible kind of hell, and for the first time in about 51 years, I don't have a horse. My mare passed an hour and a half ago, and I was with her. She died in her paddock on the farm she was born on, and I am devastated. She had so much fight in her, but I am relieved she is no longer struggling... I feel sorry for myself... she was a huge part of my daily life, and I will miss her beyond measure. She was my pretty girl....
  12. Headaches are back... I don't know how @dughlas handles his. Mine are nothing compared to his, but man, they hurt bad.
  13. Better than being Drewlusional.
  14. Just got my seventh covid shot and my flu shot.
  15. But neither one can break serve... they get stuck on love.
  16. Oh, I envy you, Doc! Never been but the photos are incredible. Not speculate? That's half the fun... at least for me. Glad you liked this one... the next is a longer slow burn. Oh yeah.... Thanks, My friend.
  17. Hey, Tink! I'm okay... how about you? I think the whole world is holding their breath and expecting the worst. Be safe.
