  1. This was one hell of a chapter to write. So much to digest... thanks, buddy.
  2. Thanks, Albert. Michael and Kendall are having all kinds of good luck now. I enjoyed writing Jeremy in this one. Appreciate the very kind words, my friend.
  3. Hey, all. Slept longer last night than I have in months. Still coughing... still lots of mucous... but I'm think I'm improving. Fingers crossed. 🤞

As a former artist, I appreciate how you tie writing to painting or another form of art. I have always seen the similarity of deft strokes by either pen or brush. And like a work of art that hangs on a wall, a portrait crafted by pen can only see so much into a soul. Writing needs a reader to complete the work, just as paintings need a viewer. I think, done right, we can get pretty close, though, and what is left is beautiful mystery. Lovely sonnet, expressing how deeply we can love... or desire.
  5. Six or seven times? Wow! That's awesome to hear, evlfox! It has always been in my hopeful files to write a Book Two. I love this world and these characters too, but I have learned not to commit to anything with regards to writing. I write continually, and I'm posting a story now called "Bearpaw: An Old West Tale", but I never know where my muse will take me next until it happens. Fingers crossed it does take me back to Morningstar. I would just ask for this one... could you possibly leave a review for this story? Each time I get one, it stirs new interest in Morningstar, and that makes me happy. Thanks very much. Gary
  6. Captivating tale of a unique world, this one is filled with EXCITEMENT. I highly recommend this well written, well conceived story. Please take the time to read this gem. Cheers!

    Chapter 1

Wow. It would be easy to hate you right now, Doc, but I don't, because that was one of the most thrilling things I've read in a while. I will choose to believe those 'leaps of faith' worked, and Thad... and Evan leapt to survival. Superb storytelling, even if a little cruel. Seriously, you have created a wonderful, inventive world, and I thoroughly enjoyed this. Cheers... Gary....
  8. My sister-in-law passed away last night after a long fight with cancer. My kids and I are devastated, and my brother is a mess. I was too sick to go to the hospital to say goodbye, and that is hard to swallow. She deserves her peace.
  9. Forgot to post this... the new chapter is up for those interested...
  10. Sorry I missed this, Terry. Thank you.
  11. Hey, Terry. Not better yet, but if I sit up I don't cough as much as when I'm laying down. I'm paying attention.
  12. Hey, all. Very bad chest cold here.
  13. Such a kind thing to say. Thank you, Doc.
  14. I won't say I'm okay, because I'm really not, but your words do help. I don't know that I've ever felt more alone in my life, before and after her passing. I really didn't realize how much my existence has been tied to hers. I still do constant checks on the paddock, and I still check the weather on my phone every hour because it was what I always did for her. Now I don't care if the grass stays lush, or it rains or gets cold. She doesn't need me anymore. Thing is, I still need her. When I lost other horses, I always had others that needed me to take care of them, but now the barn and paddock stay empty. There are no three times a day feedings or checking the water trough. Sorry... I'm being maudlin, but I haven't spoken to anyone other than texts since she was buried. My youngest gets back from his vacation this evening, so I will have someone in the house again. I just need a few more days to get used to this new reality, but I really do appreciate your condolences.
  15. Hey, all. Just want to let you know I'm still kicking.
  16. Just checking in to say HI! *waves*
  17. I totally agree. Val Kilmer was the real star for me. he gave such a heartbreaking performance.
  18. I would love that too, Man. I love talking about horses, but I only drink decaf coffee now. I have so many memories of all the horse I've had. I said it before but it is true... it turns out I wrote this story at the right time. Jubal's loss of Kema strikes so close to home for me, and horse are a huge part of this one. It is bittersweet, the timing, but maybe it will turn out to be a good thing.
  19. It means I am the man for the job. I remembered once I googled it.
  20. I loved both movies, but yeah, Tombstone is a magnificent movie. All it takes is one western to grab you.
  21. Yes, guilty as charged, Dan. I mean it's possible Lucas could have heard Jubal's prayer, but it wasn't an obvious declaration of love. What would prove his love more is what he actually did for Lucas. The thing is, Lucas doesn't know what Jubal went through... he doesn't even know Prescott is dead... he may never know.... What's this talk of damns bursting? Surely not another calamity? Thanks, buddy.
  22. Very apt. Oh... more to write in my book. I'll have to research "I'm your Huckleberry".
  23. I agree. Thank you and thank @84Mags
  24. This is really touched me, friend. You absolutely get that bond between horse and man. I've had three of those in my lifetime (with others in between and around)... three that have all died at this farm. I bought my first horse, a gelding, as a long yearling, and we went through the wars together. You could never underestimate him, in the show ring or on the trail... he was more bulldog than big and classy, but every judge fell in love with how honest he was. He was in just about every event, and he never let me down. He came back from a fractured coffin bone to have an amazing career(despite a vet telling me to put him down after a year with no real improvement). He died at thirty... and he was blind, but he knew every inch of the farm. And then there was Sky's mom. She was big and classy... hard to take your eyes off her, and she was honest too. Moved like a dream in the ring, but was game for anything out on the trail. First time we chased a cow for my team roper friends, she pinned her ears and did the job like she was born for it. Sky was the same, multi talented and beautiful, but what she loved most was team penning. She was a beast with unreal speed, but when we were done, she would lope out of the pen like a first class pleasure horse, totally relaxed. Our first competition, I had three very serious offers for her. As if. Thanks for telling me Lark's story... it helped a lot. I'm still waiting for the peace, but I know it will come. Maybe this one hurts like it does because she is my very last. That's a hard pill to swallow. I have no other horse to take my mind off her. There isn't another one who needs me. Beautiful tie in to this chapter, buddy. I think you're right about what Jubal has figured out. Hopefully, they will have time to explore more. Can't thank you enough for this... I've been rambling and wallowing, but I know all of you understand and accept that with grace and compassion.
