  1. Just to clear this up...I'm an American too, but I study in Canada. When I said "centuries-old traditions", I included the Constitution, but the concept in the American history is even older than the Constitution itself....going all the way back when the English colonists started settling the East Coast. I support the state rights and federal concepts as much as you do, but sometimes there are a few areas that could be better. Just some ideas to fine-tune the federal framework of the country. I don't think I would like to live in a country where the power is very centralized (like France) because it's foreign and a way too big government to me. And personally, it gets on my nerves sometimes. Especially with setting a drinking age. I would have to admit I agree. I never thought it would have a big chance anyway.
  2. I am well aware of them. Canada works in the same way as the USA, except that the sex law is the federal government's power (because it's a criminal law). But Canadian federal government has less power than the US federal government. The Swiss government is even more "weaker" than the Canadian and US counterparts, yet it has the power to set an age of consent. If Switzerland and Canada, all federations, could do it, I cannot see why the USA shouldn't. And I don't see why it'll shatter the centuries-old traditions of having the state powers if the US federal government sets an age of consent. I have to add it wouldn't be the first time that the USA does this. For example, it wasn't the federal power to decide on the drinking age, but the government managed to "blackmail" the states to either raise the age to 21 or the states will not get highway fundings. The government forced the states to accept "Leave No Child Behind" law by threatening to pull out education money if the states do not comply, despite the fact that education is solely state power. The federal government pulled this stunt many times. Frankly I don't give a shit. Who really does? Stories of teenager sex in national parks speak themselves enough. I'm just surprised there are really some people who take this seriously and they all tend to be gay.
  3. Merry Christmas! Joyeux No
  4. Now if I were from Ontario or somewhere else outside Quebec...I wouldn't trust these words: respecting a French Canadian. But oh well, CJ, admit it...you're an evil nasty merciless cliffhanger loving postwhore. I hope I didn't choke the English language for using too much adjectives.
  5. This just shows that no one really cares about the age of consent when it involves teenagers with their ages close to each other. If they have to start getting people seriously, they just might have to arrest over an half of the teenagers in California. It's like fighting a losing battle trying to stop teenagers from having sex. Those laws should be reformed with 15 or 16 as the setting age and draw a line somewhere in the sand to prevent adults from taking advantage of minors under 18, which is called "close in age exceptions". An example: we can make a range of two or three years (hence making it legal for a 18 year old to have sex with a 15 year old, but illegal for a 19 year to do so with someone at 15). It would be easier to enforce, according to the police. And I think the US federal government should make the law. It would be easier to have an universal law than having a confusing patchwork of 50 different state laws.
  6. Where is everyone? Pfff obviously bitching in their mind surrounded by relatives from another state. And bitching that deprives them from reading updates on GA.
  7. I had one of those as a soup in Vietnamese cuisine. MOST HORRIBLE THING EVER!!! It tasted like a veggie soaked in bleach.
  8. I tried my first one at my in-law's and... lol I didn't like it too much. I knew what was coming and... I should've not tried it.
  9. It is not in his case of course. But...long ago I learnt to...let and live. I am not his mother. I told him what I had to and let him whatever he wants. I'm happy enough to have my say.
  10. Somehow my best friend is doing it unprotected with one and he knows. He was f**king lucky that his test turned out negative but he went to do it again after it. Now it's not clear. But his life and choice. I won't think less of him. I woud just prefer that he be clean. As for me, I'm too paranoid. So no. Besides, it doesn't matter much now since I already have someone for almost five years now.
  11. All of the cars I drove regularly were automatic. Sometimes it's a pain to go up the mountains (they're everywhere were I live in Pennsylvania) with that, but I just turn off the overdrive button that my mom loves to keep on to get more control on the gears. My mother never learnt to drive the stick, but my dad loves it and would prefer that at any chance...but now for years he's been driving automatic since he doesn't have a truck of his own, apart from the company's, anymore. But I know how to work the stick. My dad taught me with his old truck, but I never really drove it beyond the driveway. Glad he did because one time I had to move my roommate's car (she wasn't home) during the weekly street cleaning or it would've been towed. Only thing I need improvement is try not to make the wheel squeal every time I press the gas after stop. 1) Press the clutch (the pedal to the far left) when you start the car. Always keep it down or you'll stall the engine. 2) Shift your stick to one or two and ease the clutch and press the gas to drive (that's where I usually have a problem, since I made the tires squeal not knowing the exact time to press the gas). 3) When stopping, press the clutch or you'll stall the engine. 4) The faster you want to go, the higher the gear should be...depending on the roads of course. That's all you need to know to figure out the basics of manual driving. I'll have to drive the stick when I am in Europe because I don't want to pay more to have automatic. Americans and Canadians are hopeless cripple when it comes to manual. lol Maybe I'll buy a manual here since they're cheaper and I don't mind learning to use it better.
  12. I'm not saying you shouldn't use the name "echidna". Just saying "spiny anteater" is really another name for them and they actually act like it...the Australian species eats ant and they're spiny. But I already know they're not true anteater species. Why use another name? Well when I watched a documentary on the Animal Planet channel about the Tasmasian tiger, sometimes a few Tasmanians on them also call the Tasmasian tiger as thylacines (as it is the offical name). Nothing wrong having two names. ^^
  13. It would be ants. i ate ants when i was a boy...so Graeme won't suffer any discrimations from me. So it really lives up to the name.
  14. Spiny anteater is another name for echidna and it was the first word when I heard of this animal as a child. It does not mean it's a true anteater. Do you think Tasmanian tiger is really a tiger? Sometimes an animal will be mistakenly called something due to similar looks to others. By the time they realized it is not what it is, it'ss too late as the name becomes engrained in the language. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echidna
  15. And spiny anteaters too.
  16. You amaze me postgoat.
  17. Thinkpad is good. My roommate's boyfriend has it and he loves it. I like it too. Think about online shopping. It might be cheaper for you to buy a laptop from the US thanks to better exchange rate these days. Don't forget to consider the shipping and custom duties to the cost. I'm still a fan of HP/Dell...I always have good experience with them.
  18. She'll get over it in a week. That's how long it took my mother to do that when my sister had a piercing behind her back.
  19. That's the most amusing part. Here, it doesn't happen...we never put subtitles for France French speakers because we can understand them too easy, but the France French speakers always have some problem understanding us. My French roommate just bitched few weeks ago about not being able to understand what they're saying at work.
  20. "ton 4.871e post" I'm not alone.
  21. omg lol So true!!! Then when Valentine comes by, we'll see Easter stuffs.
  22. Si tu veux que je ne parle qu'en fran
  23. Retail shops are forbidden by law to open at 4am anywhere in Quebec. They can only open after 9am or 10am. I dunno...I don't shop in the morning. I just know there are laws against opening at 4am for almost all retail shops. You could have your sleep and get up to get in line at 10am to Future Shop or wherever. I waited in line to get into Simons last year, and then went to Urban Outfitters to melt at the sales.
  24. And considering I joined GA a few months after him. Yeah...my 500th post...after being on GA for over a year and half. It'll be a long time till I reach my 1000th.
