A New Friend and Another Trip to Rosharon
Zuri commented on Lee Wilson's story chapter in A New Friend and Another Trip to Rosharon
Sure, it would have been wise to ask him because he got proof by his other clients. And he didn't particularly have to be that precise. -
That would be a completely new experience for him, after being blunt to clients and co-workers alike about his sexual orientation. Or the court finds a lot of superstraights successfully having pleaded for "not guilty". My point exactly. You probably see by know why I fail to like Fred particularly 😉

Chapter Eighteen: Confluence

Just look for the light emanating from it 😉 -
You could. You could have also said that you believe that being sympathetic is not a relevant factor for any relationship, and it always almost entirely comes down to looks in your opinion. Similar to this description, you kinda described Brooke the exact opposite way. And you implied that it was already doing someone a favor for not calling them ugly right to their face when you are introduced to them. A distinction, that, as you told me earlier, Texas courts don't make. I get the impression, Fred finds him more sympathetic than I anticipated. Which party did Fred vote for in the last election? "The end." True. And like I said elsewhere, Dante was assigned as Fred's mentor, so until he learned the temperature in the firm, he kind of had no choice. But as you'll see, that contact has been limited. Yeah, I'm just complaining about Fred playing this on the lowest difficulty level after his first night in prison 😂

Not necessarily, Fred is bound by confidentiality in terms of what his clients tell him, but Mo is not in terms of what rumors he hears in prison. While praising Fred for his success, one can't ignore, he had it easy in a way. Sure, he had to do the actual work and find deliberate mistakes, but Silas didn't seem to care too much about the breadcrumbs, because, as others already suggested, he didn't expect someone outside the courtroom digging too deep anyway. Yep, my thoughts exactly 👍 -

I do know, but it begs the question of what Mo exactly saw as a mistake on his behalf. There's not much, he could have done differently, could he? Sure, the knife could not have slipped, but that's not always in one's control, so this is highly hypothetical. -

At least, Dante can't overhear anything if he intends to be on Silases side when he needs to take one. Well, he could ask Mo if there were rumors at Rosharon … Well, just saying, this could have been easily avoided by the choice of location 🤷♂️ Fred broke confidentiality once before. And, this is quite blunt, to say the least. No beating around the bush in the slightest 😂 Actually, Silas did Fred a huge favor. Fred is greatly benefitting from Silases client neglect. He essentially left Fred breadcrumbs for success. It would have been interested if the clients had been bisexual: Maybe not that bad for Silas, but bad enough metrosexual: Essentially heterosexual, but Silas might not have been too picky heterosexual but talking ambiguously: Silas was just homophobe to a fault This reminds me of the September Suicides of 2010. Not all victims have been gay, some were bullied just because of rumors. -
I wonder how Fred's bosses would like that idea. Being the gay expert, okay, but using your job to visit your affair without telling anyone … What if Fred's finds out, Silas hasn't only bent cases to their disadvantage but some the other way round? Sure, there's loyalty to customers, but maybe there's something challenging Fred's ethical standards … Look, I know where gays strive to be hetero-like stems from, and if gays want to hold themselves to that standards, be my guest. But judging others by the same standard and ostracizing fellow marginalized people … This is, why there's so much queerphobia inside the LGBT* community itself. A lot of gays have their own internalized homophobia and take that out on peers. And they think, they deserve a medal for that? Now, that would be something! Maybe even ILGLaw if there's trouble with his employer … 🤔 Yeah, well, it could be inculpatory evidence if his incompetence is incidentally significantly higher in case of gay clients. This might not be proof, but might raise reasonable doubts of his impartiality. Once the case is opened, maybe, former co-workers of Silas can be talked into being character witnesses.
-
Now, that is rude. Well, that doesn't sound like a mistake, then. As I pointed out in my last chapter, this might have been on purpose. So, when there's only one kind of manslaughter in this state, why is there a name to name that kind specifically. This would only be necessary if it had to be distinguished from involuntary manslaughter. Fred's bosses will be so happy, when he sheds a bad light on them over and over again Sure, you've read one piece of paper with no certainty that it will help your one son, but sure, you completely trust that new lawyer with your life. Knowing the author, that's very well possible. If one wanted to add tension, he'd be at risk of screwing up the Wallingford case because he can't let go of Mo's. Because people are no houses. Fred only knows this subject area from the other perspective. Heck, we could all be teachers since we all have been students if we apply that logic.

Sure, I can see why a guy, feeling the need to rent a car for a couple of days only, just to then buy a car, who has no money for food but for eating out, is broke. Fred, you haven't been the sharpest tool in the shed every time, either. That, I actually buy. Sure, it's primarily teasing, but it is in-character. Only just now, I realized, Silas had the luck to coincidentally have not one but two gay clients. This might be a good or a bad thing in the following chapters 🤔 I mean, in an earlier chapter, Mo kinda pleaded guilty by saying, he made a mistake. Law doesn't exactly distinguish in terms of guilt. Manslaughter sounds not wrong, though. Well, you all made fun of lawyers. Maybe, it's time to fill that empty bus seat with Fred if you don't want anyone to assume, you have double standards 😜 -

Chapter Eighteen: Confluence
Zuri commented on drown's story chapter in Chapter Eighteen: Confluence
Well, this would be a banger intro! Exposition, in form of an ancient-ish quote, pretty classy for fantasy 😉 Sex: Better warn about that, dead animals: Nah, nothing out of the ordinary Reminds me of that one Black Mirror episode with this mind-read thing that drove this man mad I'm not sure if a golden shower really is appealing to the both of them, but if it is, no judgement here 🤷♂️ And I thought, her brother was the slow one. But yeah, with Chronos being the wise one now, she was kinda forced into another role. Just like I expected Dave to blurt out being proud about the hare. As a matter of fact, if wolves are not different from humans in that aspect, his parents gave him that name. Like … 5 Minutes till he ripped his clothes? Must be a new record! You sound as confused as Dave. Trust your wolf, drown 😉 Embrace him. Well, apparently, not all gods are created equal 🤷♂️ Deducting from that … you know a thing or two about foreplay 👍🏆 All I can say, is: There's nothing to be ashamed or afraid of. You are a skilled writer. -
Some Surprising Turns of Events

In might not be from the U.S. but I've spent half a year in Alaska 😉 experience = love, practice = sex with a guy without a job, he didn't mourn over—noted Still not that bad, considering you pay way less taxes than we do in Germany. What I meant: The client is wealthy—do they care about the truth as long as they win? -
Some Surprising Turns of Events

Serial comma—lawyers show off ^^ Wait, what? First, bold to make a first impression by openly say you've been in prison and were somewhat involved in a murder. Second, "I was a victim, but they got the real guy, because I insisted on it, and I can do better than this shitty public defender" is not really a qualification, is it? He's America. That alone rectifies the need for a huge-ass car. Remind me to put being gay in my resume. I can see, that it is a nice addition, but c'mon, by no means qualification. Good for him, he had practice in prison. Assuming that was more or less also what he made at his job pre-prison, how lavish must his lifestyle have been that he bare had enough car to buy a freaking car? Depends on how high the firm values loyalty to the client and to what lengths they are willing to go for it Lets you wonder about Kirsten's opinions and stuff. Three times in a row. This guy has, apart from his initial trial, more luck than brains. -
It's very telling about your taste 😂 Yeah, sure. I mean, it's pretty normal for characters as well as people in the real world to not talk straight. So, superfluous information or beating around the bush is just human behavior and not a mistake in writing. Blame it on poor Stephane, who can't defend himself anymore. Well, being alive doesn't assure, one can defend oneself, does it, Fred? Neither do I. But I wouldn't at all be surprised. I mean, who—except for me—doesn't use Google Drive for example? Plain and simple: Yeah, I did 😅 Sorry 'bout that 😬 I can live with being the only one liking Mark 😅

Funny thing is, "Stockholm Syndrome" as such, according to psychologists, doesn't really have a scientific basis. But there might be related things 🤔 -
Book Review: Goodbye to Berlin by Christopher Isherwood
Zuri commented on Drew Payne's blog entry in Words, Words and Words
I mean, how many Germans looked the other way when people were deported and claimed, they didn't know what was happening afterward? Well, he still published "Christopher and his kind". Took him a while, but he realized, he had to do it. Yeah, it's a bit weird that he published essentially the same story (or "stories" if you count the separate storylines as such and consider them independent enough) multiple times. I guess, it looks strange from the perspective of the works (1st novel, 2nd novel, movie adaption of the 2nd), but I looked at it from the story-perspective. It's in all three works (and perhaps even more), but each time told from a different perspective—sorry that I looked at it differently than you.- 5 comments

I mean, Mo sure enjoyed the visits to Fred's cell, but he had less trouble before Fred was there. Somewhat of a silver lining, isn't it? But nobody said so? Being gay probably doesn't help Mo's reputation. There's gotta be someone looking for a chance to take over. The only fleshed-out character is Mo, so I'm a bit confused, that Fred considers anyone his friend besides Mo—but that might just as well be because "friend" is a broader term in the U.S. than in Germany. I'm pretty sure, Mr. Faines knows standard release procedures, including the need for boxes. Are you sure? I mean, Mark has to be paid. I understand, that the state paid for the trail to get him into jail, but out? I'm genuinely (positively) surprised, he doesn't have his resume "in the cloud" By the way: What's Fred's profession (do you know what Stephan's was)? He doesn't seem to be down on his uppers, yet, he can't afford a lawyer to safe his life. Considering how quickly Fred got over Stephane … nah, not that long. I mean, his relationship with Stephane was longer than that with Mo, right? Right? However, neither does he deserve that much criticism. After all, his expertise is real estate, not murder, and he was assigned to Fred as a public defender. And odds were deliberately against Fred. I mean, Fred wasn't much help for himself, either. That isn't what troubles me with Fred. Objectively not very beneficial, but subjectively, humanly understandable. Love blinds. Well, his muscles aren't the only survival insurance in there 😉 Jeez, do you people hat lawyers 😂

Formal Meetings With the Warden
Zuri commented on Lee Wilson's story chapter in Formal Meetings With the Warden
Well, that's not even wrong, literally. Twice in a row, the antagonist's stupidity very conveniently jumps in to help the protagonist with his weak evidence, because, otherwise, they'd be at a loss just like at the trial. Actually, a little too convenient, if you ask me. Well, technically, that's incorrect. The first night actually was rape, however, probably retroactively forgiven and sugarcoated. Well, there are quite some chapters left, aren't they? 😉 Yeah, evidence will ALSO point at Bully, but most evidence was able to be bent in Fred's disfavor—why not this time as well? Finally someone saying it! That's what is itching me ever since that started. -
More Time or More Waiting?
Zuri commented on Lee Wilson's story chapter in More Time or More Waiting?
Well, I mean, he probably had the same choice on his first day as Fred, and apparently, he made the opposite decision. So that's not at all surprising, is it? Am I wrong assuming, this is how Mo usually handles stuff and this is why Sean is surprised that it's different this time? Because, if not, how the hell did Mo get street credibility. Sure, his physique is intimidating, yet, it only gives you an advantage until word gets around, you're soft. I get that it's better to keep your conscience clean, but in the end, does it matter? Well, at this point, Fred apparently doesn't care about Stephane anymore, anyway 🤷♂️ Victory might depend on the plan's transformability, then. Maybe, that's not the only thing. He probably needs to keep his reputation during that process. -
You could, but apparently, not even Fred seems to give much thought to Stephane specifically after the first chapter.
-
I'm just being thorough 😉 What I mean, it's unlikely, that, initially, the guard approached Mo with the offer to let him out of his cell at night. It must have been Mo, who'd observed well, formed connections and finally seen an opportunity to get what he needs as part of his danegeld power display as part of his position. Or maybe, Stephane wasn't out at all—not impossible either.
-
In general or doesn't it ever get easier? I assumed, one gets used to this after some time. I mean, this isn't even very selfless. The last time, it might have been, but this time, Mo is the one benefiting from that primarily, anyway. Well, that's the currency of the prison, isn't it. It already was before Fred arrived. Mo might be more desperate now, but before, he must have done that willingly, like a businessman weighing cost and benefit. I was afraid, the character development would get to that point eventually—rather sooner than later. I mean, he recently lost his partner, was falsely sentenced and imprisoned, as well as being pressured into paying danegeld in-kind (Mo loving him makes it lighter, but it still is what it is 🤷🏻)—he should be mourning, not having Stockholm syndrome. I have a hunch, this is way beyond the promised one week waiting time already 🤔 Now, I wonder about Stephane's family. Sure, now, they assume, he's the murderer, but how well they know each other before. Well, the guard fulfilled their end of the bargain, didn't they? Mo might have difficulties getting lube, but the guard won't have difficulties getting condoms.

The Verdict, Sentence, and Off to Rosharon

That's why I say, Mo probably likes to keep Fred as long as possible, given what alternatives Mo has. Chaya t'not. Sochya eh Dif.
