Prompt 848: "That was the last thing I ever expected to see."
Mikiesboy commented on Mikiesboy's story chapter in Prompt 848: "That was the last thing I ever expected to see."
i am a much lapsed Catholic. Yet, the Church still has an influence, likely in more ways than i care to admit. Thanks for sharing, k, and for your support and comments. -

"That was the last thing I ever expected to see." “Was it?” Neil leaned back in the wooden pew. He glanced down at his hands and picked at a dry cuticle. “They’ve been together for years. ‘Bout time they got married.” “You believe that? That people who’ve been together a long time should get married?” Alex looked up at the stained-glass window. His eyes moved to the next and then to the front of the church. The enormous crucifix held his gaze. The wooden cross creaked loudly. Alex’s- 31 comments

Thanks for this. It's been a long time since i've been able to write a word. This was encouraging enough i could write a little today. Thank you.

oh Kitt... i am so sorry for your friend who only wanted to do the right thing. I'm not sure about there, but here Health Canada says unless you are in a crowd (which we shouldn't be since we are locked down) you do not need to, and should not wear a mask outdoors. COVID itself doesnt scare me, since i know we are doing the right things but yeah, i am sad and dismayed at how people are acting. We have gone from being in this together to hateful acts like your friend experienced. i have no answers. talking to my shrink yesterday, he agreed the best thing is to find something constructive to do, love who are you with, if you're lucky enough to have someone and remember this will not last forever. He said, don't watch the news, don't read too much. Pick one trusted outlet and get one email from them to keep up to date. Stay off social media as much as possible. i have turned to youtube ... the Last Homely House, Arne and Carlos, Cabinboyknits ... and some cooking and baking ones, like How to Cook Smarter. Kate at the Last Homely House and Arne and Carlos have made me feel good, they are real and natural, kind and funny and talented. I enjoy watching them because they get me out of my head. Now i knit.. and damn Kate.. now i want to make books!! We need to find positive things. I'm not ignoring your anger and pain here, i get it, i really do. It's hard to deal with those kind of awful people and the horrible things they do. Depressive episodes are never far away and i have to fight to keep them there. i hope your friend is going to be okay and i hope you will be too ... i am glad you are here, Kitt. oxxoxo

this part of the story is difficult to read. i too didn't use enough to have major withdrawals ... the shorter versions were enough. Drugs are used by the Eddie's of the world to manipulate and control. And Dave is right. Addicts like to hide ... we know what we are, what we look like to others and we are judged harshly by those who have never been where we are. But i hope no one ends up there because it is a horrible place and for many ... they never escape it. i only did because i was in the hospital already. Lee is a good character and beautifully written. His feelings and reactions to himself and people around him are right on. i can feel the mistrust and fear that he has very easily. And you write that place Lee still has inside perfectly. He still has an ember of humanity and hope. There is enough there, that with the right circumstances, can be kindled back into life. thanks, Wayne.

i may not be writing, but i can still edit. i still know what makes stories/scene work. If you need a reference you can ask Wayne. what you are asking is interesting though unnecessary. it doesn't matter what pov i like to read or write in ... what is drawing you to this supporting character's voice? Why do you want to tell the story that way? You need to ask yourself these questions. Will that character's voice be enough to carry the story from start to finish? Lots use multiple POVs, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Personally hate stories where they are labelled as such. If you are worth your salt, a reader should know who is speaking and not need the chapter labelled with the name. But i digress... So, why does this character want to tell us this story? It's an interesting idea... the story told to me by the guy sitting quietly in the corner... he has a drink and a cigarette .. and he is looking at the two MCs. He points his cigarette at them, looks at me, and says, "You see them two? Well, they weren't always so close ...." You need to decide how your story is better told and by who. If i can help, just let me know.
