Happy Birthday, Gary!

My boss called last night and said that he had too many people scheduled for today. So I got the day off, and decided to do some shopping in town.

Yup! I got most of my shopping done already. I thought Max and I might make some cookies today, too.

We had Huevos Rancheros with pan fried potatoes.

I've always talked up a big game about contributing stories to Gay Authors, but...there just never seems to be a right time to write. Or, if I have free time available, I usually spend it cooking, reading, cleaning the house, or catching up on TV shows that I've recorded. Add a nine-year-old kid into the mix, and the opportunities (or desire) to write grow even smaller. Why do I do this to myself? Do I REALLY have no time to write, or am I just inventing excuses to get out of it? I'm afraid that if I start writing something on GA, it will feel as if I've made a commitment. If I make a commitment, I'll feel obligated to continue writing within a certain deadline or time frame. And I don't want to feel beholden to anyone, you know? To make things more complicated, I've also been thinking about applying for a loan to open a business. Nothing fancy, just a little bakery/deli to serve sandwiches and cookies. Figuring out how to get a business off the ground, while raising a kid...it definitely wouldn't be easy. This year, I need to sort my priorities. What's the most important thing to me? Family? Work? Social groups? It's a lot of stuff to juggle. But I'm sure I'll figure it out somehow!

I don't hate peas like Val does, I just feel neutral towards them. That aside, I wouldn't eat a meat pie in any case.

Totally Joe, by James Howe. 12-year-old Joe is a walking stereotype of the "flamer" gay kid. But he's just so sweet and funny, you can't help but want to cheer him on anyway. I loved the "encyclopedic" format of the story. While the plot certainly could have run deeper, I think it's perfect for teens and tweens looking for reassurance that who they are is perfectly okay.

@clochette I made potato raclette for dinner. Max thought he was in heaven.

It was wonderful. Max really makes our home feel complete.

I'll support Max in anything he wants to do. Whether he wants to dance or he changes his mind and decides to play football, play the violin, or do something else entirely, I'll encourage him to pursue it as far as he wants to. As long as it makes him happy, that's the most important thing.

I bought a shirt for Max. It says "Do you even lift, Bro?", with a silhouette of a lad lifting a ballerina into the air. I think he'll enjoy it as a Christmas present.

On another note, does anyone know any books/movies about dancing? Preferably male dancers. Fiction would be good, but real stories or documentaries would be better. I'm hopeful that showing Max some role models will help boost his confidence.

Statistics say yes, but we've been able to make the occasional quickie in our en suite bathroom.
