    Epilogue

Aw. You will! You know you can't stay away!
  3. Another good mystery from this writer. Likable characters, a few nasty ones, and a winding story that will tempt you to guess the outcome, though you may guess wrong, as I did. Prepare to be addicted, and prepare to be drawn into another world. Some of this story will seem frustrating, but only because you're witnessing how some people really deal with life. It can be painful, if you're not used to pain. And, I have a feeling you will not forget the ending of this one for some time to come!

    Epilogue

Some things are sacrosanct in the telling of a story. Unless you are deliberately writing a tragedy, the lovers are not to be parted. Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy. And it was always meant to be. We all know that the world often laughs at happy endings. They seem to be on the downward side of normal, especially these days. There is a lot of tragedy out there in reality, every single day. The world can be a nasty damn place. When I write, I try not to add to that. I prefer to offer something that entertains a little and leaves people smiling. I know, that's just me. I like happy endings, I like positive outcomes. I like the lovers to be happy. I was certainly thrown off base by the ending of this story. It was tragic, and unexpected. TOO much like real life, maybe? The killing of love is always tragic. But, a good tale, nonetheless. Good writing, good storytelling. I'm just going to need to recover from this one, I expect, and get on with life. Just like Will.

    Chapter 23

Wow. Well, you fooled me, Josh. Caitlin was so obviously the killer that I refused to believe it. Killing Aidan as an absolute no-no, though. You realize this ending leaves NO happy campers at the end of the story? Shame on you! Still, it was a good tale. But now that I know you can do the obvious, I'll be more wary of your tales in the future!

    Chapter 22

Very pleasant chapter, save for the obvious moments. It seemed a beautiful wedding. Caitlin is a problem, but that doesn't make her a murderer. Although she sure has the disposition of one! Somehow, though, it seems wrong to assume our killer is one of the two inner circle gals. But, hell, what do I know? Only the author and his hairdresser know for sure! On to the next chapter.

    Chapter 21

Gee, I am so relieved now to know that Detective Grafton is on the case! Maybe he'll claw his way out of that paper bag now? I figured Robbie Meade would be next. I do find the killer to be not too bright, though, killing people AFTER they have told their stories to others. Simply doing a fade and letting things go stale would have been a safer way out. I see Aidan clearly has selected a female as the killer. Caitlin would have to be a cool cucumber to murder three people and then still hang around to see what happens. She has the least amount of connections to the area of the cast here. Laura -- the more she looks like the killer, the less I think it's her. The hospital scene was moving. I'm glad there was a reconciliation of sorts between Will and his dad. Still, the man wouldn't get surgery when it was a clear (and smart) option. Beats me how some of these religious folks think. I guess the marriage comes next, and that may be when the fireworks start? Onward, to see!

    Chapter 18

It is romantic. It's also a younger viewpoint than us old farts can easily embrace!

    Chapter 20

I have always considered that the killer was a girl. Joey seemed to wade through them and toss them aside in his last days. I also considered it could be the boyfriend of one of those girls. The finger has been pointed at Laura because she acted weird after each new witness was revealed. I do believe that Robbie Meade has a right to be scared. Caitlin is just a little too much of a mess to figure just now. She does have motivation, in spades. Still, I am wary of the obvious. More!

    Chapter 19

Caitlin registers as someone who has been shit on a couple of times too many, and resents everyone for it. I can't rule her out as a possible killer, but neither can I ignore her. She is not at the top of my list of suspects, though, due to the time element. I don't suspect Aidan. I don't really suspect Laura. Bad tempered, silly at times, but murder seems to not be on her plate. I do think we may have been introduced to the murderer already, but in such a way that they didn't ring any bells. Be funny if it was Nikki's vanishing brother! I'll just keep reading for now!

    Chapter 18

It does seem like Caitlin harbored some small hope of getting together with Will, now torpedoed by seeing him with Aidan. As a suspect, she has the right motivations. But maybe the timing isn't right. Keiyara kind of put the time frame between when the guy she was with heard voices and her finding Joey in the pool into a fairly narrow window. Caitlin was out front with Will when the guy jumped over the fence. Was there time for her to kill Joey and then get around front for a smoke? I do suspect her story on what the $2000 she wants from Will is to be used for. But that doesn't make her a murderer just yet. I don't believe Joey's father killed him. Why? They'd met one time, and it seemed that Jack had given up a lot to get there to see his son. I would guess he didn't like what he saw -- that Joey was hitting too close to home by being drunk and a mess-- but how would that motivate him to kill him? He seemed to feel the loss, even if some of it was self-pity. Aidan asking Will to marry him...it seems a LITTLE premature...but these guys are also young, and perhaps a bit impulsive. It's a natural feeling when two people find love to want it to last forever. But, we'll see. Lots of suspects, but no one stands out. Yet.

    Chapter 17

I guess Catlin and Laura now look very suspicious. Laura less so, as an actual murderer, despite her temper. But her staying behind after Will and Aidan left suggests she might have gone back to confront Keiyara, and triggered something. Caitlin's response deposits a bigger chunk of red herring on her, but is not conclusive in any way. Too many loose ends around to tie this thing together yet. The power of the unobserved has to be considered here, too. People in the background, people that watch, people that see things. People that can do the math. I am not ready to look at Laura or Caitlin as suspects just yet. The guy that jumped the fence needs to be found next. And if someone then offs him...! The real fun will start!

    Chapter 1

A very sweet, almost dreamlike tale. The fantasy of every guy out there that loves another guy, to be together, to be happy, successful, and to have acceptance and love from the family. Left me smiling at the end. Statistically, there simply have to be a pair of guys out there where something like this has happened for them. Its rarity greatly accentuates its special qualities. Thanks for sharing.

    Chapter 16

Well, well. Will wasn't totally blind, after all. I thought, when he told Aidan, "I don't know" if he loved him...sheesh, this guy is the last one to know what he's about! But in the moment, he seemed to grow up a bit. Sometimes, when the light finally comes on, it's incredibly bright. I hope this sticks now. I did briefly wonder how the photographer got the impression that Caitlin was Will's fiancée. I wondered if Caitlin told them that...Or Nikki? So...will Will's parents see this article? Is it going to start new problems for Will with them? Interesting chapter. Will has his start as an artist. And a starting point for the investigation. Let's see where it goes.

    Chapter 15

Whoops! I forgot to mention how much I loved that Aidan bought the frog painting!

    Chapter 15

Another good chapter. The Thanksgiving dinner was a very moving affair. Definitely, a recommendation for a chosen family if the original isn't an option. Or, as the man said, 'blood is thicker than water, but damn, I'd much rather have the water if stuck on a deserted island!' Investigations often start with NOTHING. The art of discovery takes time. This one is in its infancy and scarcely ready to be judged. It's going to pick up, I'm sure. And this crew is not a lot more than a group of strangers in some cases. Pursuing a single goal with effectiveness requires some unity. That needs time to develop. Now that Will seems to have come to grips with the hard part, it looks like things may move forward. The writing, as always, is lively, inventive, and addictive.

    Chapter 15

I don't think it was Elvis. He had left the building long before this happened. No clear-cut suspects leap at me just yet. Too little to go on. And the suspects that leap at you are usually not the ones that did it!

    Chapter 13

I have known people like Will, once or twice in my life. In searching for a term to describe him, I sailed right past naive, sheltered, and gullible, and arrived right at rube. I have come to the conclusion that stupid is a bit too callous. Will has promise, perhaps, as long as his friends don't abandon him. I don't see that happening. Rube has a country connotation that may not be quite appropriate here, and Will's far from the Goober of Andy Griffith fame, who made stupid a legend. But he has a lot of work to do, and may make it, with Aidan to guide him. I am not at all surprised at the position of the police. Once they make up their minds about a case, they will stick to that road come hell or high water. Joey's case is closed, and closed it will stay -- for now. I skipped over this chapter by accident and had to back up. I'd left myself a note that read 'chapter 13', and thought later it meant it was the last one I'd read, not the next one I needed to read. Call me Will. We are moving along now, it seems. Good chapter.

    Chapter 14

I positive, thoughtful chapter. I'm glad Will did so well at his show. That means, at least for now, money to help support himself and his art. I liked the conversations there in the gallery with Nikki. They sparkled! The decision to start an investigation of their own was well handled. Your crew seems quite able, as in capable of at least getting themselves into a lot of trouble before this is all over with. Laura is a tigress, but I suspect Caitlin is up to wielding a whip with almost equal practice. Gonna be a show! Will seems to be at last finding some sort of direction. He does need to close the chapter with Joey -- or, at least, lay it to rest. He will be unable to move on with his life until he has handled this perceived debt to his old friend. I have to admire his ability to see Joey the way he wants to remember him, rather than the way he was at the end. Some people say that sentimentality is a fool; but for many, it's a way of balancing out some of the ugliness of reality without completely losing faith in it.

    Chapter 12

Another mixed chapter. Throwing away the envelope the St. Christopher's medal came in was not too bright. Nor handling the necklace. Will really is naive. Caitlin is on the right track with the baby, but seeing the medal around Will's neck obviously made her suspicious. Whether that will amount to anything, I don't know. Will seems determined to dilute his own troubles by taking on those of another. This obsession with Joey is one of the most unhealthy things I think I've ever read about. Especially when it's clear it was not based on a realistic view of who Joey was in the first place. Will thinks Joey changed after he was told Will was gay. I don't think people change like that. Events may trigger a part of them seldom seen to emerge, but it was always there, waiting. I also thought the crying man at the funeral could be Joey's father. And that he might have been gay. Guess we'll see?
