No one catches everything. I'm happy you enjoyed the tale. My mother's family, being Dutch, were especially close to that war. When my maternal grandparents were still alive, the family stories they told were fascinating to me as a boy.

I was working on a sci-fi/horror story called DEMONS IN GLASS. I got sidetracked by an idea for a Charlie Boone tale, and I'm doing that now. What will ultimately come out of the pot? Only time will tell.

Thank you. I've been a reader since I was a kid. When you fill the pot, it eventually overflows, and, if you're lucky, a few good things will come out.

It does seem some events, and some stories, become even more timely as the years pass. I actually did not envision that when I wrote this tale, seeing it more as a kind of reminder that there were remaining holdouts of illiberty in even very liberal places like California. But some times seem to have a way of sweeping up fiction and making it reality, or even reality again. Thanks for the kind words. In these times, maybe I should be getting back to basics in my storytelling again?

This is not going to be true telepathy in the standard science fictional sense. I am leaning towards it being something that is a state rather than communication by, say, electromagnetic means. That would mean no restrictions at all on distance, and nothing could serve to block the communication. Sort of like quantum entanglement, at the mental level. I'll get to that in the next CB story. But before that, something else will be along... 😁

We've been hovering around zero at night, too. Days getting into the low teens. Cold like this, squirrels sleep 18-20 hours per day and are often inactive for days. Our regulars seem to come in shifts. We don't see the same ones each day. We put out squirrel mix for them, as everything is under a foot of very solid snow. It's the least we can do for friends.

I would say that Nicholaas and Robin have both had children in their time. But as they are both human, and not elves, and the long lives they enjoy are not necessarily transmitted to offspring, that neither cares to talk about children they may have outlived. This is not a subject I want to address anytime soon, I don't think.

I haven't put any real thought into the guys having spacesuits stashed in different places. In the sort of technological atmosphere they enjoy on Engris and with their alien friends, summoning a custom-fitted environmental suit at any time seems rather easy. I would say if they need this sort of protection anywhere they are off the Earth, it wouldn't be hard to come by. So, no real need to stash suits at every turn. For all I know, Charlie has already taken his parents shopping on Engris. I mean, he doesn't tell me EVERYTHING he does, and I try not to be nosy!
