Redemption is something that has to have a chance to occur. This situation simply didn't allow it to happen. Which is why this was a sad chapter for me, in more ways than one. I do not usually kill any of my characters. Even the bad ones. But especially the ones that are victims of circumstance, and cannot help how they are.

I think most of us are used to some sort of background sounds. I have a sound generator in the bedroom at night that sounds like crickets in the woods. Otherwise, it's so quiet, I can't sleep!

I live in a place that is silent, for the most part. During the day you can hear birds, and the occasional sounds other animals make. Sometimes, I can hear my neighbors, but most often not. We are separated by stands of forest, and the leaves of trees are potent sound-dampeners. And, we have only a few neighbors for many miles around us. At night I can hear crickets, and frogs, and other nocturnals, at least in the warm weather. But there have been plenty of colder nights I have stood outside with the dog, and the silence was so extreme that it was not hard at all to believe that there was no one else left in the world. At extreme altitude, any fast moving object would have to be a jet. Wouldn't it?

Some authors post as they write. So the next chapter appears whenever they finish it. That can lead to some waiting. I never begin posting a story until it's complete. So I usually post one chapter every day until it's done. That means no breaks in the schedule for me. Any discussions about my postings have had to do with the way I used to post ONE file for the entire story. Too many people want chapters instead of one long presentation. So, I generally go along with that now. Exceptions are stories I deem to be a 'short' story, even if they are a little long for some people's tastes.
