    Chapter 6

I tend to live with my characters as I write their stories. I'm pleased you like these guys.

    Chapter 5

Yep. Time for some war room planning!

    Chapter 4

Hmm. I'm glad I didn't think of starting a fire underneath the fort!

    Chapter 3

Cliffhangars add spice to life. Where would we be if we always knew how things would turn out?

    Chapter 2

You're right. Sometimes, no words will help, and no words are necessary.

    Chapter 1

Just remember to look behind you now and then. You know...just to be safe.
  7. Thank you.

    Chapter 1

Talking is never overrated. The depth and potency of our language has separated us from the other animals of the planet. So it's a shame that we let so many opportunities for understanding pass, without a single comment. If we never speak up, we are never heard. And if we are never heard, no one can ever really know us.

    Part 4

I'm not sure how this comment pertains to the story?

    Chapter 1

The pictures were a fun inspiration, and I enjoyed responding to the challenges. I also had more free time back then. I either need to find a way to make more free time, or....find a way to make more free time.

    Chapter 1

That would be considered the correct response in the part of the world I come from!

    Chapter 1

I've always had a lot of fun with the picture challenges at Iomfats. I just haven't had time for the most recent ones, but want to get back to them.

    Keep at it!

    Chapter 10

I had a granddad that was important in my life, my dad's father. Many of the elements in my stories are culled from my own life, as with any writer. So don't be surprised to see a few character-types recur. I have thus far viewed this tale as pretty much self-contained, without additions needed on either end. It's difficult to write any story where a reader's imagination won't supply additional details, or feel a need for answers to some questions. That's just the way it goes, sometimes.

    Chapter 1

I actually ran into the most controversy here at GA about the lack of chapters. I assume it's because chapters are the rule on GA, and there is so much to read that most readers here go from one story they are following to the next in order to keep up. A sudden, long story tossed into the middle of all that kind of throws off their step.
  16. I did use 'jalopy' in The House of Storms. Mostly because the writers of the Hardy Boys series used it in their tales!

    Chapter 1

Thank you for the kind comment. I used to write everything in 'one piece', as can be seen with my earliest postings here. And then I began to separate these stories into chapters after I was done, to post them; and then I finally started writing in chapters to begin with. That works well enough for some longer stories. I still throw out one now and then that is all 'one piece'. Some short stories, even long short stories, are not meant to be split. They get their momentum from reading them all the way through. I do provide breaks in the tale as part of the narrative, but these are 'scene' changes, and not really chapter breaks. Ultimately, it's up to the writer, how he or she wishes to tell the tale. Chapters are convenient for those that like to read in small doses, but they sometimes interfere with the flow of the tale. happy you enjoyed this one!

I love all my characters, pretty much. Even the bad guys!

    Chapter 7

Museums are wonderful places, second only to libraries for the number of stories they can tell!

    Chapter 6

It sure looks to me that you did!

    Shhh! It's a secret!

    Chapter 5

This was a fun story for me. I lived in NYC for six years, in a building not as full of personality as the Boltfort, but which had a flavor that was hard not to love. Amazing the we humans can stack steel and stone to great heights, and then fill those structures with a life all their own. Some places do become special to us, because some places can only BE special.

    Chapter 4

Ah, you have romance in your heart!
