Report: Young migrants in Germany turning to prostitution A rising number of adolescent migrants in Germany are turning to sex work after aging out of youth welfare programs. The Left Party has called for increased funding into integration and social policies. German aid charities have reported a marked increase in the number of young migrants turning to prostitution in Germany. That's according to an investigation published on Monday by Berlin broadcaster rbb in cooperation with a number of local charities. The increase has seen more young men to sex work, namely of Afghan, Pakistani and Iranian backgrounds. Aid charities see Germany's wavering social system as the catalyst for the rise. Once refugees turn 18 they no longer qualify for state support for young people, forcing them to turn to prostitution as a way to make ends meet. Full article - Deutsche Welle in English

The Distance in Your Eyes
William King commented on jkwsquirrel's story chapter in The Distance in Your Eyes
Everything that's been said sum things up perfectly. They are immature, all of them, but that is not going to stop them having sex when it's available. That's nature, teenage boys want to fuck, all the time. This makes having a loving, meaningful relationship at 15 very difficult. At their age they don't know who they are, they don't know how to handle things, they don't know what they are feeling themselves, let alone what the boy they just had sex with is feeling. Mike has come through with some mature information for Billy to think about, and no doubt he will, but there is a massive contradiction here - maturity and teenage - they don't go together. It's always going to be a battlefield and people will get hurt, either directly or as collateral damage. -
You Can't Always Get What You Want
William King commented on jkwsquirrel's story chapter in You Can't Always Get What You Want
I liked the reference to "Catcher in the Rye" it's a classic school reading list book, but I still remember it, even if it was a long time ago. It felt like touch and go as to whether or not Dustin and Billy would reconcile. It's difficult for teenage boys to make up after failing out no matter how stupid the reason, if there ever really was a reason. Well, in their case yes, Billy hurt Dustin badly. Okay Dustin hurt Billy back, physically, but the emotional stuff cuts deeper. -
They won't all work. Do not follow the advice that was here. -Myr

@Myr thank you for the answer to the problem. As I am not about to go out and buy a Windows PC I will just keep the formatting simple and touch it up on the editor. @Timothy M. thanks for your input. @Ron I'll just get on with writing then.

The operating system is usually listed in SETTINGS - ABOUT DEVICE or DEVICE INFORMATION, it varies, but you need to look for something like that. I don't think the browser you use is relevant, but I'm no expert. I checked and I do not get the message 'you have pasted content with formatting' so no opportunity I guess to keep the formatting I've pasted.
-
I don't have any codes, nothing but text in a (Word) .doc file. I copy and paste and all formatting is lost. The formatting lost is: text size, bold and centered text (Chapter number and title at the start), italics within the text. Can I ask what version of Word you are using, I am using a Microsoft Word Document 97 - 2003. You may think, Ah! It's because he's using a very old version of Word, so I used the latest version 1.0.1 2015 and it didn't keep the formatting. Perhaps it is nothing to do with Word .doc files, but all to do with operating system, because when you copy and paste it goes to your system clipboard. I use Android, and I've tried it with Android 6.0.1, which is pretty upto date. Android is also a very widespread operating system. I'm pretty sure I didn't get the "You have pasted content with formatting" I need to check. I have had that message on posting elsewhere, but not on publishing a chapter, but I do need to double check that.
-
That is exactly the problem. Bold and italics do not paste from a .doc (Word) file and neither do centered section breaks. I don't mind too much about what the font is etc., but having to re-edit in bold and italics is a little onerous, and at least italics is essential to reading. I don't understand how it works for Timothy and not for me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ?

I would like to know if there is a way to publish my story which preserves the format I have used, centered, bold, italic text, font and size. Should I be using some other file format than .doc? Do I need to use html code? Is there an easy way to copy and paste that doesn't require editing the whole chapter with the limited choice of the Publishing Editor? Any thoughts?

What are friends for?
William King commented on MythOfHappiness's story chapter in What are friends for?
Brilliant - I like that so much. So we'll described, sad, enigmatic, perplexing. He was exemplary towards his once bestfriend, despite the way that friend treated him. There was a lot of love in there, it was just hard for it to break through, and that describes the struggle we've all known - some people swim and others drown ? -
It looks like a scream ??? (oops, isn't that another TV series - Scream Queens) omg they are soooooooo... Colourful! That spectacle is reserved for American TV, you lucky boy, you've got them all to yourself ?

He (or She? ) recorded a message - there were two interesting things about the message, apart from it describing a disagreement with his parents. Logical fallacies, incorrect logic leading to false assumptions or circular arguments - I wonder what happened? There was an error at the end - unexpected end of file - why was that? He did actually sign off, so what happened at the end of the message that wasn't recorded? The writing style: too short to judge - I'm waiting for more. So far it's both interesting and mundane. Interesting is the discovery of the message, mundane is it's about an argument with his parents.

What We Did on Our Summer Vacation
William King commented on jkwsquirrel's story chapter in What We Did on Our Summer Vacation
No one is perfect, that's already been stated, no one is without blame, but Billy can really be a prick, telling things to Brett he should have kept to himself, treating Dustin like shit, and now making moral judgements about Mike. A seven year age gap in a relationship is not weird, sure in America Dustin is underage, but that's just a line drawn in the sand, you wouldn't think too much about it when Dustin is 18 and Mike 25. What is important here is that it seems like Mike has got real feelings for the boy, that he is not just using him for sex. Mike is the only person being friends with Dustin, if Billy destroys that, deliberately or accidentally, it will kill Dustin. -
Did you know? - In Afghanistan children need to work to support their family, but only boys are allowed to work outside of the home, because the place of girls is at home doing the housework. When the family consists of daughters, the parents are obliged to dress the girls as boys, cut their hair short and give them boys clothes. This allows them to send the girls out to work.

You will keep getting the same messages about things not working because nobody will plough through all the messages here, which are in no kind of order. There is the SITE UPGRADE INFORMATION blog stuck at the top of every page on the site - I suggest to make it clearer you rename that and call it: IF SOMETHING DOESN'T WORK CLICK HERE FIRST underneath it could say - list of all known problems. Site Upgrade Information as a blog title just doesn't do it - doesn't draw people to look there if something is not working. You could also clear out or archive all the multitude of messages here.

@R J Drew I would like to say thank you for being the voice of reason, and yes I would read a book about any colour of person, if it was well written. I find it broadens the mind to read stories which are different and bring with them the author's cultural insights, whether that be a black person's perspective, or any other colour. Whether the author is American, British, other European, Indian, Asian or Chinese, whatever, we all bring something to the party and can all share writing about each other.
-
Normally you would update your preferences in MANAGE FOLLOWED OPTIONS, so you would set notifications for followed stories and turn off notifications from followed authors. Logically, that would give you what you, and probably everybody wants. But it's not working, the notifications for followed authors gives an error. You will have to hang on a bit until these teething problems get resolved.

It's easy enough to toggle from dark to light so I think the menus are just fine. In any case you know top right is next chapter.

The only way (as far as I know) to get the new software to recognise the code, italics etc. is to edit and save. That process allows the code to be read as code. I have been through every chapter of ever story I wrote and done this, but there were still some codes which didn't work, like highlight background color, and very occasionally something I had to correct manually. Obviously it's not a practical solution for hundreds of comments, but you'll agree it is far more important for stories than comments. I think comments will just have to stay as they are, I guess it's the price you pay for the update. Doesn't look nice, but I can't see a solution unless a technical wiz could automate the edit save process, but that might put the site back into chaos for days or weeks even. ? I should have said italics were recognised with edit save and it's nothing to do with your browser because it's the site text editor at work.
-
I've just discovered that the code formating is restored if you edit and re-save each chapter.

It's CHANGE PREFERENCES button ➡CHANGE NOTIFICATIONS PREFERENCES Sorry it's difficult to remember and navigate all the menus.
