  1. Baby it's cold outside! Stay inside and read the new chapter!
  2. The first month after my diagnosis was harder for everyone else than it was for me. Brett was supportive, as usual, but he acted like he was going to break me every time we were together. Was I okay? Did I need to eat? Had I taken my insulin? What were my numbers? One day I just told him it was none of his damn business what my numbers were and that he was my boyfriend not my nurse. “I just don’t want you to get sick,” he insisted. “Dude, I feel fine. Qui
  3. Thanks glennish! Yes, I've always thought of the story as being as much about Billy and George as it is about Billy and Brett. George's impact will continue to be felt in the story, as now Billy has to come to terms with what's happened. This will actually help push Billy forward, because for a year he's allowed his life to be ruled by a ghost. Maybe now he can find some closure and move on with his life.
  4. You're right! The start of Billy's distaste for the man! Let's hope DAVE's gotten Billy's name right since then!
  5. They should really be called two different names. Glad I could help!
  6. Smaller needle, bigger emotional baggage I guess!
  7. Thanks Lisa! This was definitely Billy at his most vulnerable. When things got scary for him he dropped the snarky attitude and just wanted his mom to support him. He so desperately wants that support in the area of his love life, but she won't give in. Her support in this area just shows what could be if she would support him completely. She would be the boys' strongest ally, instead of their worst nightmare.
  8. Thanks, Spikey. You hit the nail on the head. The fun of Billy being our narrator is that we only get his perspective on some characters. David's line in this chapter is the first time he's had dialogue. Everything we know about him is from Billy's skewed perspective. And again, your thoughts on Billy's reaction and lashing out at his father are spot on. if George were still around, that would be a very different conversation.
  9. Thanks, and love and support for your continued good health! No, it's not my plan that that Billy go the way his father did!
  10. Bobby will have his moment soon. You're right, Billy's basing his response to this on what he saw his father go through, and his only memories of his father's health were of a long steady decline. As far as Billy is concerned, diabetes killed his father, and now it's coming after him too. Billy has more support than he realizes, if he will just open his eyes and see it.
  11. That's pretty much my way of thinking about it. Billy is just going through the many emotions that such a diagnosis brings, fear, denial, anger... but after a while will come acceptance.
  12. Indeed. And making a life-long decision out of spite would not have been a very good choice.
  13. I hope you'll be able to make the healthy changes you need! One note though, as a type-1 diabetic, there was nothing Billy could have done to avoid it. Type -1 is an auto-immune disease where your body's own immune system attacks the portion of the pancreas that produces insulin. It doesn't matter how healthy someone is, they can get it. But the key is how someone responds to it. Billy's dad made poor choices that made his condition worse. What will Billy do?
  14. Oh, there's still plenty of issues lurking in the shadows... Mwahahahhahahaa!!!!!!!!!!!!11
  15. Thanks! There's not much worse than not knowing what's wrong with you. Now that Billy has answers, he's on the road to a better place.
  16. Thanks! Don't get too optimistic on Paula. I seem to recall George once saying that Billy got his stubbornness from her, not from him.
  17. I'm hoping I can bring a bit of encouragement in the way that Billy handles things. It's not an easy road. I feel for you and what you went through.
  18. Thanks! I think "Did it hurt?" is the first time I've given the vanilla douche any dialogue.
  19. You may be right, maybe Brett should be careful what he is wishing for! But I think Brett is thinking more of the Billy we had at the end of Part 5 than the rampaging Billy of Parts 3-4. Like Spikey said, this is what could have been a lot earlier if the boys had not allowed their egos to get in the way. Brett and Dustin have more in common than they realize.
  20. Thanks Lisa! It is nice to see some maturity, isn't it? Billy might get there too, eventually. As for Amanda, well, there's more of that maturity. I always thought of her as wanting to protect Dustin, and her way of doing that was by toughening him up. She knew what an a-hole her dad was. Who knows what secrets Dustin may be storing?
  21. What better way to enjoy the shortest day of the year (in the northern hemisphere) than by reading a new chapter?
  22. “I can’t believe you did that to yourself,” mom sighed on the day when I’d sat down at the kitchen table without a shirt on. “I thought you had to have a parent’s permission before you could do that to yourself.” “Nope. Sixteen is the limit,” I replied. “Seriously, go put a shirt on. I don’t want to see that while I’m trying to eat breakfast.” “It’s just a nipple, mom,” I replied. “Everybody has them.” “Yes, but not everybod
  23. You rebel! lol
  24. Thanks Spikey! Yes indeed, what might have been? Looks like Brett is in that place as well. Seems like Dustin is willing to forget the past as well. But will the past be so willing to be forgotten?
  25. Thanks! I like the imagery of Billy as someone who won't let things go. That goes all the way back to chapter one of the whole story with him looking at the swings and slides at the park and wistfully remembering when they were his domain. Billy is kind of like the kid who wants to ride the roller coaster, stands in line for an hour, gets on the ride and then panics and wants to get off before the ride starts.
