  1. Jim was also leaving his room, carrying a shopping bag. We said our “hi’s”, walked over to the rec room together and Jim poured the coffee. I was glad we were meeting in this casual way; I couldn’t have planned it any better. We figured out we both drink our coffee black. “We’ve got a few minutes before we leave,” Jim said after checking the coffee temperature by taking the first sip. “Need to be on the 0740 base bus that will take us up the hill. First, here are a couple of lifeguard trunk
  2. I conjured up what this mystery man, who was my new roomie, might be doing on the side. ‘A thousand bucks can buy a lot of shit,’ I thought as I recalled the quality of the wardrobe in the closet. If that was he in the desk picture, Brent sure ranked high on the stud meter. Clearly, the girl friend was a perfect match; at least on a superficial level. Almost like a merging of models from the cover pages of Men’s Health and Self magazines. The email window was still glowing but I didn’t worr
  3. It was moving day. Now that I had become permanent enlisted staff for the base, I would live in housing that offered a little more privacy. I wouldn’t miss living with 50 horny guys in the same room and sharing the ‘three S’s’ – showering, shitting and sleeping. As I stood outside the student barracks, personal possessions at my feet, I discovered that I didn’t know how to find my new home. Building 3-D. Being confined to the training ‘campus’ as a student, I hadn’t had time to be a part of the
  4. The spring before our high school graduation, Russ was accepted at Northwestern University as a pre-med student. I, not knowing what I wanted to do in my adult life, planned to not venture too far from home. So, I was safely bound for Minnesota State University – Mankato. My freshman year at MSU was fairly uneventful and I established serious study habits. 16 credits of introductory liberal arts classes gave me a chance to discover where I wanted to direct my future at a measured pace. My r
  5. Life was pretty neat growing up in St. Paul. Although the Minnesota winters could be brutal, my friends and I craved the sledding and snowball fights on the slopes of the closed municipal golf course near my home. During summer vacation from school, I hung out at the city park’s outdoor pool to keep cool and take advantage of the swimming program for kids. Guys from the high school’s swim team taught us ‘minnows’ how to swim and learn the different strokes for racing. By the time I reached the r
  6. Here's to a Healthy and Happy New Year!
  7. SHORT STORY. 2007 Fairy Tale Anthology - It's been 70 years since Peter Pan romped around Neverland with Wendy and The Boys, and he's lonely. Tink picks up on Peter's unhappiness and hatches a plan to change that.
  8. “Damn it, Tink, Neverland has been a real drag since the Lost Boys went home with Wendy, Michael and John,” Peter Pan said to his fluttering and flittering friend, Tinkerboy…or Tink for short; this newest fairy of the realm had come back in the pixie-dust form of a male. Peter Pan figured that there was some sort of cycle that the Wizard of the Universe used in dispatching guardian fairies to him. The one before had been a ‘bell’. “Well, Peter, screw those bastards if they don’t want to kee
  9. SHORT STORY. For Oliver, deception has become a way of life. Who's kidding who?

FIVE TO ONE A short story by Jack Scribe All characters and events in this story — even those based on real people — are entirely fictional. It contains language that, due to its content, should not be read by anyone. This disclaimer is an homage to the gang at South Park “Man, I’m running late for work,” Ollie said to himself, rushing to leave the house that he visited on a frequent basis. “But I can still get there on time if the cops aren’t out and about, eh?” With
  11. GOBLINS AT THE DOOR A Short Story by Jack Scribe This was the first Halloween night in five years that Eric would be manning the front door alone to welcome all the little ’uns out for the annual treat grab-fest. It was also the first time that he had made the apples dipped in caramel and rolled in nuts for the evening, solo. Eric watched the afternoon talk shows in the kitchen as he prepared the treats for the kids in his Fairfax neighborhood. ‘Has it really been eight months since
  12. SHORT STORY. 2006 Fall Anthology. Halloween trick or treating leads to a romance.
  13. Here's a touching comment from a blog: I'm a 45 year old father of four and my oldest daughter is 22 and gay. She was raised Catholic and attended Mass every week, her mother and I never knew of her attractions to same sex because our daughter kept herself busy with school, sports, music that we just thought she didn't have time for a relationship of any sorts. She came out during her Junior year of high school like it was no big deal, here it is "surprise"! It affected her mother more than myself, but I did say a few things that I will regret for the rest of my life. Later when we were alone I asked her how she knew she was gay and being the intelligent person that she is she replied "Well dad, when did you realize you weren't gay"? I told her "I never had to make that decision I just wasn't attracted to the same sex" she laughed and said "Well dad I never decided to to be gay I've just never been attracted to the opposite sex". With that single statement I now understood my daughter and was able to cope with her sexuality. All you parents with young kids, some of which will be gay I hope and pray you can see that in most cases it is not a decision to be gay or straight, don't make it harder on your child than it already is. This poor boy probably struggled with this his whole life and fell victim to a shame that was unwarranted and projected by a couple of morons with a webcam who's parents obviously never taught them that just because something is different doesn't necessarily make it wrong it just makes it different. The religious zealots that shout damnations upon the sinners have never truly heard of felt the word of God..ignore them. There is no greater heart or kinder spirit than that which dwells in my daughter, she is an incredible person who continues to make me proud to be her father! I will pray for this boy and his family that they can embrace his memory and love him for what he was. I will also pray for the two morons that they too can find peace and be forgiven for their actions.
  14. "They are just advanced enough to be dangerous... to themselves" LMAO! Terrific parody, James, with timely messages. Jack
  15. Here's a neat link to see where some of the bar scenes took place in SOTW: http://www.ohlalamag.com/en/2010/05/ohlala-first-look-the-abbey-celebrating-20-fabulous-years.html The pictures will give you an idea of what this hot WeHo bar and meeting place looks like. BTW, the Ohlala site is terrific for giving you a feel for the style scene in L.A. and samples of top photographers' new works.
  16. I was touched by a few paragraphs from Running With Sissors. The biography was published in 2002 and I assume the timeline meanders somewhere in the 70's. Here's a sample: young 12 y.o. Augusten meets his first gay man: I'd never seen a real, live gay man in person before; only on the Donahue show. I wondered what it would be like to see one without the title "Admitted Homosexual" floating in blocky type beneath his head. ...He seemed so normal, like a regular guy. He didn't have an earing or talk with a lisp and judging by his brown shoes and pale blue polyester slacks, he certainly wasn't gifted with color. And a few pages later, there's some parting dialogue: "...So you're gay?" he asked again. "Yeah," I said. We continued walking but then he stopped again. "Are you sure you're gay? I mean, how long have you felt like this?" I told him all my life. "That's pretty sure." He chuckled. Love inspired writing with a natural twist. It shines a light on the 70's quite well.
  17. As mentioned earlier, those guys will return for sure. I may visit Vegas this summer and get inspired for a sequel down the road. As odd as this may sound, I wanna see Donnie and Marie at the Flamingo. They are terrific entertainers. Speaking of seeing acts, I've got tickets for Reba right here in the Palm Springs area - Agua Caliente Casino, Rancho Mirage - in June.
  18. I agee that it's their own time in the sun. Plus, I really have come to like Spence.
  19. Under the category of When the real world crosses paths with fiction, here's a headline out of Las Vegas: COO of Hard Rock Hotel's body found Updated: March 9, 2010 05:48 PM PST Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - Las Vegas Metropolitan Police have confirmed to Action News that the Chief Operating Officer of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas was found dead inside his Summerlin home Tuesday. Although the official cause of death is not being released, Metro Police tell Action News Andrew (Randy) Kwasniewski's wife found him with a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Randy and I worked together several years ago. Great guy with loads of talent and integrity.
  20. I'm sure we'll see Spence again. And Mario is always behind the scene. As far as the guy who entered the 21 Club, MikeL, we'll run into him again.
  21. Thanks, guys. This has been a favorite story to tell. Tiger, I hosted a party a couple of weeks ago and the bartender - super straight dude - has two dads. In fact, he favors his step-dad. I want everyone know that I appreciate the feedback for my stories - Shifting Sands is no exception. I think most of you know that I finish a story before it's released. However, I do read the forum and take suggestions very seriously. I was changing and re-writing the final chapter 24 hours ago. So...THANKS for being involved. As far as the sequel to Other Avenues, I admit I'm being a little lazy right now. Time to roll up the sleeves.
  22. This is Andy's take on the California politican's DWI violation earlier this week...after visiting a Sacramento gay bar and imbibing too much. GOP Lawmaker Demands Recall of Car That Drove Him to Gay Club SACRAMENTO (The Borowitz Report) - Anti-gay California State Sen. Roy Ashburn today demanded a sweeping recall of the vehicle that drove him to a gay nightclub this week. Sen. Ashburn, a Republican who has consistently voted for anti-gay legislation, said that the car drove him to the club
  23. Good sleuthing. Who was trying to call gives you a heads-up on the Sr. or Jr. question. The bigger question is, what is 'it'. Evil cliffhanger, wildone? CJ can't have all the fun here at GA.
  24. Oh, come on, Mike...I only throw in a cliffie on occasion. I must admit that since Shifting Sands was in response to the veeeeeeeeery loooooooong cliffie at the end of Desert Fantasies, I decided to end this story with a little suspense. Next week will be the concluding chapter with epilogue.
  25. Yes, there are two Lou Gallians. My hat's off to you guys who recalled that. BTW, Tim, I love you're newest Tiger avatar. Cracked me up.
