He legally changed it to Patrick when he was 18. His birth last name is no longer part of his life. He is legally a Patrick and everything related to his business and image is Patrick. It would be like Kim Kardashian changing her last name lol. I bet people would be okay with Loren Petermeyer, but it would be hard to re-brand something like that. Some of the branding is explained in the next chapter, so I don't really want to spoil it, not that it's a huge part of the chapter, but still.

I haven't. Loren's last name isn't even real (I mean, he picked it from a SpongeBob character), so it's not like Jay would take it. But Loren's identity is Loren Patrick, so I don't see him changing it to Petermeyer. I think the girls are Petermeyer, because Loren would never give them his bio last name or a Spongebob name.

I think Jay thought Loren would get caught up in his head a little more than he is. Which, given his history, would not have been surprising! Loren loves to overthink EVERYTHING, and then overthink what he overthought. It's a quick spiral. Luckily, Jay is good at stopping it before it gains too much momentum lol.

My grandmother to me when I was seven. "Carefully, you might end up looking like me when you grow up." Me, in the most offended tone ever: "Oh no. I will NEVER look like you." My mom still won't let it down. BTW. I most definitely resemble my grandmother, which isn't nearly the atrocity I once thought it was lol, but oh the irony.

At least she's trying! This was inspired by my on MIL, whom I love but bought the WORST clothes ever. It's a difficult dynamic. Jay was asking for trouble when he dressed them in that stuff to pick Loren up, that's for sure.

You're right, parenthood is a trip. I don't think any of us are shocked that Loren is reacting the way he is. He is rightfully protective and wanting to do everything differently than was done to him. He his capable of so much love, love he's held back, and now it's flowing like a fire hose and I'm here for it.
