  1. And the third rule is not to believe anything that Val says...? After all, surely the first rule should be: "There are no rules!" Back soon! Just off to buy some metal polish for my (soon to be) shiny new crown.

  5. Most of the native population of Dingle speak Irish Gaelic as their first tongue, which may make their English hard to understand. Although the accent in the whole of County Kerry can sometimes be difficult for lots of other Irish people to follow... 😉 Accrington, England.
  6. Thanks, BB. I was worried at first that you might think I had stolen your idea. Oddly enough I found it, amongst several other jottings, in a text file I had saved in a folder called Scribbles a few years back. A case of great minds thinking alike? (Or just mere coincidence? )

  11. The two young men sat down on the concrete bench which looked out onto the Mediterranean. The sea was the same intense blue as the sky itself, making it almost impossible to distinguish the horizon. They seemed oblivious to the crowds of other holidaymakers who were strolling along the man-made footpath that led around this part of the Côte Bleue. After maybe two whole minutes one of them turned to the other and simply asked: “Well?” “It’s the ideal spot.” “You sure now? I don’t
  12. Here I shall post my short stories (1,000 words up to around 10,000) and my flash stories (under 1,000 words). Make of them what you will.
  13. Personally, I don't see the word 'hungry' as injecting any "me" at all. Hungry is describing the cat, not a person. I actually prefer the second one, because it adds a touch of drama - as in it makes it seem more likely that one of the two deer may have become a meal for the cat. If you feel you need to make it clearer that the cat is a large one (rather than just a domestic one) the only large wild cat with a single-syllable name I can think of immediately would be a lynx (how about and one hungry lynx as the final line?). Just my thoughts. Maybe others may think differently.

Most stories about homelessness are told from the point of view of the homeless themselves. This story, however, is from the point of view of one who is simply doing what he can to try to help the homeless, making it perhaps unusual for the genre. It is, as Backwoods Boy has already said, an excellently crafted story, which draws the reader in from the very first opening sentences. It is well worth the read, and I would recommend it wholeheartedly. I look forward to reading more of Mancunian's writing.
