  1. Mmmmm! Brisket! Man, that's like meaty candy! molly, if you're a fan of The Thing, check out this link... short story told from The Thing's perspective. I linked it above, but it's worth once more! *shiver* http://clarkesworldmagazine.com/watts_01_10/
  2. I believe you're right about the first, and I know you are about the second. The remake was the one I liked the best. It was just... it made me jump, and yelp, and shiver.
  3. So... The Thing is a story of an expedition in the arctic which stumbles on a space ship. An OLD space ship. Inside, they find an 8 1/2' tall mostly bipedal creature. This story, the one I linked tells the tale from the perspective of the "monster" in the movie. It's truly alien. It sees no problem with erasing individuality, and in fact, can't quite comprehend why anyone would want to be individual. Think the Borg, except in a very insidious package. A clever, concealed, and brutal package...
  4. Also, the Halloween post made me remember this. If you have seen The Thing, then I'd recommend this short story. If you've not, don't read it! It'll give away plot points about the movie, and you really should watch it at least once. http://clarkesworldmagazine.com/watts_01_10/
  5. Thanks, rick. But a mystery is a strange thing to tell. Maybe I'm weird, but I need it to belong to me... the whoooooole thing, if I have any chance at all of pulling it off.
  6. Mine was accidental (sorta?), but it worked out once I decided how it was going to go. Once that happened, I became a planning fiend. I had to track so damn much to avoid giving it away, and still drop clues. But, man... it's so fun to read those comments. 🙂
  7. Good morning, DiC. I am supposed to be writing right now. Instead, I'm reading through comments on Guarded, and laughing at the wild speculations of readers. I need to figure out how to write another mystery...
  8. Thanks, Chris!
  9. Thanks, Thorn. I need to work on my photography skills (hah!), but I'll tinker until I get it right.
  10. Thanks, Parker. I really want to make it work if I can. We'll see. 🙂
  11. Thanks, tim. 🙂 I shall!
  12. In Fleeting Eternity, Tad, one of the main characters is an artist. He drew in a graphic novel style, and he depicted many of his experiences in a sequential way - essentially creating a wordless, "novel" of his life over the span of a few years. So many readers asked if the story was based on something I had read, if there was such a book. It made me think about the possibilities, and mourn my lack of skill with drawing. I'm nothing if not stubborn, so I thought around the problem. I purchased a good digital camera, and I subscribed to a photo editing program I had already learned to use (it has a free version I had tinkered with for over a year). And now, I'm trying things out. Graphic Novel Project - Proof of Concept I really like the first panel. The goal, eventually, will be to tell a wordless story. One anybody can follow, one told within the pages of a comic book length work (about 22 pages, 3-4 panels a page). First, I have Silverwolf to finish. But, once that's done, then it will be time to truly focus and see what it is I can do with visual elements alone. Maybe I should stick to words, I don't know. But, I'll never know unless I try. I'm gonna try.

I'm glad you're seeing the you who is there now, and not who used to be. 🙂
  14. Howdy, and happy Friday, DiC. I met a friend of mine at the coffeeshop. He helped me with my camera, got the shutter speed figured out, and marveled at the ISO (whatever the hell that is) on my new gadget. I took the first three pictures needed for another project I've got planned. Now I'm going to pack up, get to the house, and play around with the pictures I took. Then it'll be time to write a thousand words or so of the next Silverwolf chapter. I hear people say they wouldn't know what to do with themselves on retirement. I seriously don't think I'll have an issue there.

Thanks, tim. 🙂 I appreciate honesty. I know you're interested in helping me be better, and I feel the same about you. Speaking of which... Congrats on posting the first chapter of Searcher! Woot!

    Bad Puppy

Thanks, tim. There are a bunch of little, dense scenes in this one. A lot happening, many perspectives, pieces moving and developments happening. It's a bit different for me, to write a chapter like this. But, I like how it turned out.

Hehehe. Yes. Daniel's wolf has always been difficult. The longer he goes without a packleader, someone to focus the beast, someone to guide him, the more likely he is to finally lose control. And there are those who watch for just such lone wolves, those who cannot control their natures. Evan is still a presence in the world, even though his body stopped working. Now he's driven by pure spiritual energy - something that takes a huge amount of effort and will by the entities driving him. Something must be dire indeed for them to go through such effort. Mmmm... to be Franklin. Yes. That boy is loving life right now. 🙂 Thanks for writing, Parker. More to come!
  18. I'm excited to see this here. I'm so happy I got to read bits and pieces as you went along, and that you shared a little of the process of the writing with me. Nice start, tim! 🙂

I'm glad you're liking the second spin through, Tom. It's gonna get wilder before it calms down. And... I wanted to do something different with the genre. I wanted my own flavor, and the way I imagined werecreatures to function if they were real. A character like Wolfgang, though... he is, as far as I'm aware, he's something new entirely. I'd love to spend a night with him! Woof. 😄

Thanks, Jeffrey! Evan is such a fun character to write. For me to really write a character, I need to get into their heads. Evan's headspace... yeesh... it's WILD.

How did I miss these comments?! Sorry for not replying! I'm glad you liked the chapter, and I hope you're still lurking about reading it. Tomorrow will be a big writing day, and so will Saturday. I hope to get another chapter posted soon. 🙂
  22. It was a pretty good joke. A friend once said, "Nothing is really inappropriate so long as it gets a laugh." That might be why he hasn't been fired yet. lol
  23. Oh, thank you all for making me laugh today. I have appreciated it greatly. I'm not going to mention the reason why I needed the laughs. Lest I be accused of "milking it".
  24. You like maple. You are redeemed.
  25. You were the last hope, Reader. *tsk tsk* 😄
