[Paul Wilson] It’s strange sometimes the convoluted way we think and do things. Why are Chris and I back up here this week? We’d been talking about having some more time skiing before the end of the season, even before the last weekend trip with Rob and Diane. That’s when we got introduced to Diane’s little brother, Greg. He’s a nice guy, but I sensed that there was something wrong with the way he reacted when he found out that Chris and I are gay, and a couple. My best guess is that he’s bee

[Dan Cronin] I’m glad he’s here. I have no ideas whether or not Greg tends to be punctual, so the fact that he’s late isn’t a major concern. I had already decided that I was willing to wait up to an hour for him. After all, he may have got lost trying to find his way back here, plus he’s still a beginner. If he wasn’t here in an hour, I was going to check with the ski patrol guys, to see if there had been any accidents. No, my biggest worry was that he simply wouldn’t bother showing up. I had

[Paul Wilson] Fuck! I knew that slime ball wasn’t to be trusted. He engineered last night to get Greg to strip in front of him, and now he’s got Greg to agree to sleep in the same room as him. I still can’t say anything because I have no proof. I can’t even prove that Dan’s gay, let alone that he’s planning to seduce Greg! Is there anything I can do? If Dan tries anything, Greg is going to need help. I can’t leave him up there by himself. Can I arrange to go up at the same time? I’ll need t

[Paul Wilson] A race would have had the two of us at the bottom of the run with plenty of time before anyone else showed up. It would’ve given me a chance to question Dan on what was going on. The excuse he gave is almost reasonable, though I think we are both good enough skiers to avoid the beginners. Is he just trying to spend more time with Greg? He certainly doesn’t show much interest in just skiing the run; he seems to only want to ski with Diane’s brother. Chris has told me several times

[Dan Cronin] Yes! Yes! Yes! He’s offering me a chance to stay in touch! Garret’s had a couple of friends stay in the room, and Kelly’s boyfriend comes up about once every three or four weeks for a weekend, so I’m sure they won’t object if I have Greg stay over. I’ll have to make sure that I’m not double-booking the spare bed, but given that I haven’t used it all season, I’m sure they’ll let Greg use it. I’ll also have to make sure I tell them that Greg’s straight; otherwise they might get th

[Rob Skitter] Greg means well, but he’s still young. From what Diane has told me, he’s never been in a serious relationship. Yes, Diane and I are causing each other so much pain because we’re so deeply in love with each other. What Greg fails to realise, is that this also means that we are able to cause enough pain to destroy the relationship. Love increases the pleasure and joy we have together, but it also amplifies the knife wounds when we hurt the one we love. What I don’t know is whether

[Rob Skitter] Thank you, Greg! She still may not talk to me, but I have a chance. At the very least, I can show that I don’t want to leave her. If we get through this, I owe Greg big time. Please use the BACK button to return to the main story.

[Rob Skitter] Greg deserves a chance to have a good weekend. The attention he’s attracting from the girls should be making him happy. I know he’s a bit shy, but maybe having a bunch of young ladies chasing him around all morning will help his self-esteem. He’s not going to be able to do much today, but I’m hoping one of the girls will slip him their phone number. He doesn’t have to tell them that he’s not really a porn star. At least I don’t think he is.... Please use the BACK button to retu

[Kelly Reed] The very idea that I would find the fairy attractive enough to take him as a boyfriend is hilarious! Dan’s an okay sort of guy, but he’s just not tough enough for me, even if he wasn’t gay. He’s a great roommate, even if he completely destroyed every stereotype I had of what a gay guy was supposed to be like. While he dresses well, his fashion sense is pretty conservative. He doesn’t keep the room spotless, but only cleans up enough of his own mess so that we don’t live in a pig s

[Diane Rider] I need time to think, and Rob isn’t giving it to me. I can’t be more obvious than simply ignoring him, but he’s not taking the hint. I don’t want to give up on our relationship, but I need to work out what it is that I need Rob to commit to. A simple “us” is obviously not enough for him. I need to spell out what’s acceptable and what’s not. But before I can do that, I need to work it out for myself. That is going to take time. Please use the BACK button to return to the main sto

[Paul Wilson] I don’t think Greg is naturally gifted; he’s too hesitant to be that. So that means Dan is just a good teacher. I would put that in the plus column for him, but I still don’t trust his motives. Was he doing it, just to have a chance at Greg that night? The beers as payment would make it likely, as Greg could be expected to match him, drink for drink. Sigh. I know Chris told me to not worry about it, and let it drop, but for some reason Dan has me concerned. I just have this fee

[Paul Wilson] While Diane is still doing an imitation of an ice princess to Rob, things seem to be getting back to a semblence of normality with the rest of us. Chris and I had a quick chat before we came back down on the second run. We’re going to stick with the other three for the day, instead of heading off to the more challenging runs. We both want to be there, just in case something blows up between Rob and Diane. While we were prepared to ski the Playground all day, it’s great if we can

[Chris Everington] Since we had the chance on the lift, I tried asking Diane what was going on. She wouldn’t tell us what had happened, but she did make a cryptic comment about it wouldn’t have happened if Rob had been gay.... Greg’s crash seemed to do something to her too. Paul made a mild joke about Greg falling over where he did to stop us from skiing with them. Diane started to be defensive, with a comment about he was only a beginner, and let him make a few mistakes, when she drifted off

[Rob Skitter] Greg is an absolute gem. If I can ever recover from this disaster I’ve created, I’ll be proud to have him as my brother-in-law. I’ll also have to ask him to be a groomsman; if there is going to be a wedding, it’s because he’s playing a major part in trying to make sure Diane and I get over this hurdle that I’ve created. He pointed out the mistake I made, and didn’t stop until I understood what it was that I did to his sister. Then he defended me when Diane accused me of thinking

[Chris Everington] For a moment, I was worried about what was going on. Firstly, I was surprised that Greg came down so hard on Diane. He was right, but he didn’t pull any punches in pointing out how unreasonable she was being. But then he sounded like he was going homophobic again. Paul told me last night about his suspicions on Greg’s past. While what Greg said was pretty mild, compared to the abuse that’s been leveled at me in the past, it seemed a sign that he was still disturbed about so

[Diane Rider] I hate it when my brother is right, even if it’s for the wrong reasons. I didn’t stuff up on the sleeping arrangements; I stuffed up thinking he was gay. I should have known better. He was just like Rob last night; tongue hanging out and eyes on stalks, as he leered at the sluts parading around on the stage. Gay guys, like Chris and Paul, have too much class to descend into the gutter like that. Naturally, he’s on the shithead’s side. He’s another chauvinistic male pig, who can

[Paul Wilson] Greg knows what is going on, but he’s not saying. I think he cares for his sister enough to want what is best for her, but what will that be? Chris cares for Rob, like the brother he never had. If Rob ends up heartbroken, Chris will be depressed as well. The depth of Chris’ compassion is one of the things that won me over, but it’s a double-edged sword. He feels the pain of those close to him more than is sometimes healthy. Can I enlist Greg in trying to make sure we have a happ

[Chris Everington] That doesn’t sound like a messed up proposal. Or if it is, it had to be the world’s worst proposal. While I wouldn’t put it past Rob to make a proposal like “Sex is great. Let’s get shacked up so we can bonk our brains out all the time,” he’d only do that as a joke, and it would be obvious that it was a joke. Rob’s one of my best friends. Indeed, I would have to say he’s my best straight friend. I like Diane too, and I think they make a great pair. I would hate to think that

[Chris Everington] The contrast between yesterday and today is dramatic. Yesterday, Rob and Diane were the pin-up couple for happy straight relationships. Today, they could be doing a promotional commercial for a divorce lawyer. Greg knows something about what is going on, as he warned me off when I started to ask Rob about it. I’m not happy letting it go for too much longer, though. A couple of weeks ago, Rob had discreetly asked me if I’d be the best man at his wedding, and naturally I’d sai

[Rob Skitter] How could Greg suggest such a thing! Looking and touching are two completely different things. I love his sister and I would never want to hurt her. Apart from physical abuse, I know that the one thing that would crush her more than anything else, was if I slept with another woman. All I’m doing by looking is showing my appreciation for the feminine form. How can there be any harm in that? Please use the BACK button to return to the main story.

[Rob Skitter] Just when I thought my future was opening up and I could see what was coming, everything crashes down on me. It’s as if I’m in the middle of a science fiction story, where I’ve been translated to an alternate Earth without realising it. Everything looks the same, but things are just not right. Diane is not the person she was yesterday afternoon. Gone is the fun loving girl I love and she’s been replaced by a cruel and bitter duplicate. Am I on the same planet as I was yesterday?
-
[Diane Rider] I wish Greg wouldn’t put ideas into my head. I know he didn’t mean it, but just for a second, I thought seriously about the suggestion. Does Rob have any idea of how much pain he’s putting me through? Until I calm down a bit more, I think I’ll stay away from sharp instruments. Hopefully I’ll feel better after my shower. Please use the BACK button to return to the main story.

[Diane Rider] How could he do that to me! Does he really find me that unattractive? He’s never made a comment about it before, but the way he was drooling over those girls clearly shows the type of figure he prefers. I could never have curves like those – I’m one of these people who just naturally stays on the slightly plump side. Can I change my body shape into one that he wants? And if I did, would it make any difference, or would he still keep looking at other girls? I love the dumb hunk,

[Diane Rider] I didn’t really mean to go off at Greg like that, but I’m just so angry at the moment that he just got in my way. Rob and I have just had an incredibly romantic dinner for two, and I was looking forward to continuing the celebration back in our room. What was Rob’s idea for continuing our romantic night? Going to see a wet T-shirt competition! The ungrateful, ignorant, chauvinistic, unthinking, miserable excuse for a man! My girlfriends have always said that a man’s brain is

[Dan Cronin] I don’t believe that the tiki has any magical powers, but if Greg is even the slightest bit superstitious, it may give him some confidence. Strangely, I’m going to miss it when it’s time to hand it over to my cousin Jake. I know I’m never going to have a son to pass it on to, and Maori tradition says it belongs to the tribe, not the current holder. Once Jake’s son reaches the age of twelve, I’m going to fly back to New Zealand and present it to Jake, so he can pass it on to his so
