A slower start than the first book, but there's still some interesting details. While it's not surprising that Lisa and Brody are no longer a couple (Brody going away for school could've done that), Lisa's actions indicate that it wasn't that simple...
Somehow, I've missed Carter's Army up until now. A delightful story that I've just finished. If you haven't read it yet, please find the time to do so.
I, too, love Andrew's mother. Indeed, based on Andrew's reactions, I think that Andrew and Will dating may be exactly what she needs to move on from her husband's death.
Absolutely delightful. Andrew said a long time ago he was prepared to shout it out in the school cafeteria, so Will really shouldn't be surprised that's now taking full advantage of them being outed.
It's a hard lesson to learn, letting someone else fight their own fights, but it's necessary. I would've loved to have been taken into the locker room before that last period, but I think it was more dramatic the way it was.
I'm with Will. Todd was the one who said he'd had enough, so Will won that fight. Brody just made sure it was a fair fight. So why doesn't anyone acknowledge that Will can stand up for himself. Yes, give him support, like Brody did, but let him fight his own fights if that's what he wants to do.
I loved the priest's putdown of the Major, and Will's response to the Major at the park. Two different reactions, but the Major lost both encounters.
As for Andrew's mother, I hope she reacts well when she finds out who Andrew is in love with.
I loved the confusion that Todd had when Andrew first confronted him. The "I didn't do anything wrong, so why are you angry?" confusion. Unfortunately, the respect Todd had, and he clearly did respect Andrew, appears to have gone. I think there's going to be a split in the team, soon, with Andrew on one side, and Todd on the other. Where the other players and the coach line up is currently a mystery.
Andrew is starting to understand Will's concerns. That's actually surprising, since Andrew has thoughts about Will for a lot longer than Will has had thoughts about Andrew. But people are funny in that way, being blind to the obvious because they just don't want to see. Andrew feels secure in his position as captain of the hockey team, and couldn't see how his social position could be jeopardised. He's finally beginning to see what may happen.
A wonderful ending to the chapter I'm glad Will was finally able to tell Andrew he loved him. Andrew's relief was beautiful. After all, it had only taken him three tries to get the response he hoped for.
Andrew knows what he wants, and while he's putting pressure on Will, he's not controlling him. Will's experienced too much dictatorial behaviour from his dad to react well to that if Andrew had tried.
So sad, with the bright lights being the support Will's friends are giving him. I will say I'm impressed that Andrew is willing to be outed, even if it's reluctantly. There's hope for both of them.
And the matchmaker award goes to... Andrew's jacket! It seems to be in the middle of everything
I hope Jennifer is okay. Four months pregnant and out in the cold. Did she take a jacket with her, or, like Will, did she think she wasn't going to be outside for very long?
A good chapter. Will's social standing has changed as a consequence of that accident, but we're still to see how that pans out. It could be good, but there may be some problems, too...
The Major is cold, but not hostile. Jackie is hostile. I noticed that Andrew's mother spotted the way the Major treated Will, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she'll somehow give him the parental support he deserves.
It must be strange, wondering if you'll survive the night. Under the circumstances, talking about things you wouldn't normally share makes sense. Anything to take your mind off the situation you've found yourself in
