    Chapter 28

Talking with a reporter can be hazardous. A potentially hostile reporter is even more dangerous. But sometimes, not talking at all can make things even worse. There's not always a right answer

    Chapter 28

A moderate grade high ankle sprain will take an athlete out for 6-12 weeks. It's not a career ending injury, though this is not the first time Roger's hurt his ankle. Now, an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury can be career ending. Some players come back from more than one, but that particular injury usually takes a year to recover from.

    To Catch A Leopard

Another short story that I'd like to write at some point is how Alex and Ethan met, but that's for the future (maybe).

    Chapter 28

I'm sure all the eavesdropping was completely accidental... There are certainly a lot of possible consequences from talking to the reporter. I will say that you'll find out what happens in the next chapter.
  7. Alex Smith crossed his arms as he stared down at his flatmate. “That’s one of the worst excuses I’ve ever heard. Who the hell brings work home for a job they haven’t even started yet and does that in preference to going to a nightclub?” Tony Hills didn’t lift his head from the pile of papers he had printed off. “I do. This is the job I’ve been dreaming about, and I want to create a good impression when I show up. I’ve always been a fan of the Lilydale Leopards VFL club, even if I haven’t been t

    Chapter 28

“Shit! He’ll be going out of his mind,” Neil said as he reviewed his emails. It was just after four on Friday afternoon. Oliver glanced over to where Neil had set up his laptop on the kitchen table. “Who’s going crazy?” “Alf,” Neil said, his concentration on the screen in front of him. “I was supposed to chat with him last night, but I wasn’t around. He sent me a few emails, trying to get hold of me. I need to let him know I’m okay.” Oliver grinned as he continued unloading the dishwasher. “S

    Chapter 27

I think most, if not all, in the room knew that Phil hated Jim. The question is whether they were real threats or just mouthing off? Peter told Phil what he was doing wrong -- that might've been enough. As for Liam and Clarissa...

    Chapter 27

Neil wouldn't want too many disruptions at the same time. Coming out at school on top of learning to live away from home is probably more than he's comfortable coping with. I agree he'll feel that he won't need to stay in the closet, but there's no rush on coming out, either. From his perspective, it might be better to not come out -- that way he'll be able to spend time with 'Alf' without fear of outing his new friend Lilydale to Ringwood East is a fifteen minute train trip. Allowing for walking to and from the train stations, it'll probably be 30-40 minutes each way. Not excessive, plus he could always do some reading on the train.

Thank you. That was my first short story after a hiatus of several years. I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

Thank you! I can't always do humour, but when I get inspired, I really enjoy writing it.

    Chapter 27

Thank you! I wondered if anyone would pick up on Neil's father desire to protect his son, and you did so with the first review! I won't say anything more, as I don't want to give out any spoilers, but you've picked up on something important. The events in this chapter occur at the start of May. Neil turns eighteen at the end of May (May 28th). As for Liam, Jim exchanged numbers with him in an earlier chapter. The same chapter where Liam met Neil at the sports store, the week before the Easter break.

    Chapter 27

Neil gave his room one last glance. He didn’t expect to be back, and he wanted to make sure he wasn’t leaving anything important. He would’ve preferred to leave his school backpack and books behind, but he knew that both Todd and Jim would insist he continue to go to school. Neil glanced nervously at the door. He had moved his dresser across to block it, but he didn’t know how soon it would be before his parents tried to enter. That uncertainty had meant that all he could do was to throw a few

  20. The attention to detail was fantastic. They made an effort to wear clothing as close to the original as possible, and then get the expressions and postures just right. Amazing!

    Pierced

A fantastic story! I really appreciate how you not only captured Paul's confusion and discomfort, but also Kyle's...without having to change the point of view. Very well done! Everything felt so natural and real. The sign of a talented writer who can produce 'real' characters.

    Chapter 26

Thank you! Yes, there's a lot going on at the moment. Liam really is in a difficult situation. Trying to make up for five years of being a bully isn't easy. At least he can talk to Neil by pretending to be Alf. Of course, that requires Neil to get back online....

    Chapter 26

Regarding Ty's father, people don't always think of the consequences of their actions, or discount the potential problems. It's very human. As for Neil, well...
