The article makes a good point. A lot of readers find a new author to follow by borrowing their books from the library. If the author becomes a favourite, they will often go on to buy their books. I subscribe to Kindle Unlimited and after borrowing several books by an author, often go on to buy others which aren't on loan. They could just as well say lending libraries are stealing from writers.

Jevikel and Kadin's story also leads on quite nicely to the next episode, set at Benden Weyr. -
The original plan was for female dragons to Impress female riders, however as Pern suffered a lot of plagues and riding a dragon between is known to cause problems with pregnancies, fewer girls became available. The green dragons were thus forced to either choose boys, or die. By the time of the Ninth Pass, it has long been forgotten that women ever rode green dragons.

I had a lot of requests to tell their story and it's the first one of mine that takes place (mostly) outside of the Weyr environment.

So much quicker than having the dragons all talk to each other and also got round the problem of some of the hidebound Wingleaders not liking instruction from a Fort Weyr brown rider.

They don't figure out about the grubs for a while, although it's going to become obvious fairly soon that the place should be a wasteland, yet isn't.

It was Genlorth flying too close to Herebeth that caused the accident.

They are a bit stuck in Interval ways of thinking there. With dragons and men being injured in Fall, you can't afford to be so choosy.

Thanks. Haven't had to do too much for the cinema parts as I was a projectionist for much of my career, but some of the other stuff needed research.

There wasn't much time to prepare either culture. Bear in mind all the conflict F'lar had with the Holders just prior to Thread starting to fall. Now that things are settling down, it would be the ideal time, but some of the Weyrleaders are very resistant to change.

Totally agree with that. It's still early days and everyone needs to adapt.

The lush foliage, even though he knows Thread has been falling. The protective grubs of the south are still unknown at this point in time.

Kylara is one of those canon characters whose actions can be interpreted as spoiled, bad or thoughtless. She certainly doesn't have a great track record in choosing who to get into a relationship with!

Benden Weyr has been the only Weyr for so many hundred Turns, the idea of secondments has been forgotten. Plus they are worried about how the much bigger modern Benden dragons will fit in with the older, smaller ones in a Wing formation.

R'feem didn’t want to appear as if he was promoting his own Fort riders over someone who has far more experience. F’drun has been both a Wingsecond and a Wingleaders at High Reaches. I’m willing to bet he is also one of those people who act very differently around people he is trying to impress.

H'rek's thinks almost as much as D'gar, although he has far less experience of Threadfighting (or life). There are definite similarities between H'rek and J'rud.

It's going to be a mess, for sure. In the books, it was mentioned some of the riders from present day Benden Weyr were sent to search for records at the other Weyrs, but they found things in a very poor state.

Possibly, although there are many stories where ghosts of murdered people want to bring their killer to light so that they can find rest.

When I got home, Cynthia asked about my day. I gave her a quick summary, but found myself reluctant to tell her of what I'd felt while walking through the stalls. She would want to explore all the possibilities while I’d rather not think about them. I had enough physical problems to be dealing with in the building and didn't need anything uncanny on top of them all. If I ignored it, maybe it would go away.
