Oh my.. well.. just... last three chapters, and still that part of the world is on fire. Your a mighty fine author and you have made me sweat over our heroes. Whew, get them on the ship away!!!
-
I was struck by Darien calling Wylan Husband, the first time by memory, and I heard it in my head with anguish. Well written indeed.
-
I was in Turkey some years ago ( working for TV during Eurovision) and was in the city of Troy at the movies, watching Troy with Turkish subtitles. Owners had to pause the film to allow for smokes and wild, passionate conversation before resuming the film. Strong 💪 in pride of history

Turkish television does historical drama really well, as they have locations that can be anywhere along the Mediterranean. Handsome men as well as a bonus. Oh, hopefully they make it through the next phase and escape to Europe with all the treasures that have accumulated!

I think our dear Captains bedroom antics will be curtailed by the sheer fact of A/ knowing that spies are about, B/ reputation is strong but not as strong as in Britain and therefore his reputation is for both himself, his English navy and this King are at stake. C/ the amount of work involved in getting the ship to rights and dealing with miscreants along the way. D/ i am betting that a flogging will happen before a bedding. Ah, if only George took over the weekly timetable...from the rats of Harvard.. just wishing.

Excellent chapter, but it has left me unsettled and unsure. You really know about curve balls...

I was surprised that Ashot was not punished for his actions. If word got back to the Amir that his missive was opened by another, read aloud to laughter, might a 17 year old with army and behing the Vanguard might be tempted to take action to protect his reputation? Might Darian have seen this consequence? Their position is precarious if Tyre acted, would others take aim, lord Darian is indeed distracted.
-
I was hoping Dio ( D10 if you must) would reappear! Both Ds on board sniping that each could do things better, faster, more panache.. oh well, somehow along the way, they might catch up with the Orange mange carrier whipping them on.
-
Ashot is heading for a massive swipe up the head, he will push Steffy too far and in his own hubris will fail to notice until to late. What became of the Amirs courier? Did he get a reply to return? Truly lovely visual image of the trek.

Who doesn't love a good murder mystery,?! Obviously your choice, but go ahead..
-
Baldwin and Raymond will have far more grisly ends. I wonder if an earthquake is due leading to damages to the walls of Jerusalem. After all, its only 25 kilometres from the Dead Sea fault line.

This was the perfect counterpoint to Wylan. I so wouldn't mess with the Princess and all aboard will know it now!. I agree that death is most likely for Lord Aldous, or at best, needing a cane to walk. His own retainers will care for him below decks, but the gossip will spread far along the kingdom with other Crusaders on board. I think there was a brother to Julian, standard oaf as 2nd son. Might be more to that story later on. She will need a child to embed herself into the new family. Most interesting! Didn't even mention the witches who have awakened something they cannot control.
-
Shot will try to "deal" away the KP duty. I was surprised that Wylan and Darien were not part of the Vanguard gossip. Also, will the boys Tam & Connor have to return? Will this become an issue as word spreads that others who are different can find a home. Zealots won't care other than anyone different is suspicious 😒

Chapter 7: THE KILLING GROUND
Darryl62 commented on Topher Lydon's story chapter in Chapter 7: THE KILLING GROUND
Quite the ride! Also the chase... -
Afrikaans! What a pyn in die agterstewe ( pain in the arse)...
-
"That's logistical redistribution ".. now I know of a young Squire who might have said that same thing about nicking stuff... @Topher Lydon.. but its is a damn fine turn of phrase.
-
Real Humans, TV series (Swedish), I really wanted one to play with.. companionship robots
-
I was reminded of Soylent Green with the canteen food options, and how lovely to have some Finnish words thrown in! "Tusen Tack" from Sweden.
-
I've now started to open Google Maps, looking at geography, hills, rivers, roads. Your quite the author!
-
I have a cousin, well actually a 2nd cousin who is called Arslan. Hes mid 20s, Orthopaedic Surgeon in a public hospital in Mumbai. His religion is Zoroastrian, but of the 2 sects, he is (like my husbands family) a Parsis. Neither Muslim nor Christian, predates both with a Fire god. Surprising me every time that evil old bastard is mentioned. BTW, I now have a pavlovian response to awaiting a chapter to arrive.

I love reading about things I know little or nothing of, hence my dip into Wikipedia and under popular culture I was frankly disappointed NOT to find this novel listed with other historical fiction regarding the Varangians. Im not able to edit such august forums, but if Poul Anderson is listed, and his stories are from the 1950s to 80s then someone ( @drpaladin? ) might be able to...

I'm keen to read how Libbet gets Lord Asshat to leave his son behind in the stinking smelly streets of Antioch.. what must she promise to get this to happen?
-
Ohh, posted here in Sydney at 3 pm! Wonderful surprise as I finished book 2 only yesterday!!! Personally, I think this is your best series yet. The historical details, the quiet desperation, even from Bran. The Princess and Ser Val, delicious...hahaha

Tieing together Sci Fi and Russiams. The film trilogy od Day Watch, Night Watch and Dawn. 2004

Windows... even the Mayoral Hall wouldn't be glass. Too early to be commonplace. Would be material covering in the village, or just an indentation open in the houses. The mayors offical place might have finest thinnest linen, but if shattered, then perhaps it was glass, but it would be small and the pride of the town . ( Sorry @Topher Lydon it just stuck in my throat and thought it would be better with an explanation. Back to enjoying this series)
